Human Interact is using Microsoft Cognitive Services for Starship Commander, an interactive virtual reality science fiction game that gives players control over the narrative using real conversation.
Because Human Interact uses invented words and place names, the company utilized the Custom Speech Service by Microsoft Cognitive Services, creating a custom script so that characters in the game understand what players mean when they speak.

People like you deserve to be called developers! I really don't think many will grasp the gravity of what this could mean for the future of narratives in video games.

People who try Starship Commander as their first VR experience try to talk to other characters in other games as well! We know this is going to become a standard feature for all VR software.

Well thanks for the hard work! I will definitely be picking up a VR headset to try this out.

A clear sign that Cognitive Computing will revolutionize Storytelling in VR/AR. Can't wait for more voice-driven branching and adaptive narratives! Looks like IBM Watson's Unity integration has some real competition :)

WOW! I can't wait to review this one!!! Talking to my ship in Elite Dangerous using the HCS Voice Pack and Voice Attack is one thing, but this looks next level. █-)

I hope it's adapted for non-native english speakers. For example using a lot of synonyms for objects. Box, square, cube, block, chest, locker, cabinet etc. So you don't have to look at playthroughs in order to progress just because you can't come up with the correct word for something. And maybe even using generic terms like "thing" and "object" for a wide variety of objects. For example "open that thing" instead of "open that hatch"

We've done testing with people who are not native english speakers. Custom Recgonition system has been trained with all kinds of accents, so it's great at understanding you. The Intent system from LUIS is an AI, and works even on people who speak broken english. I think the results may surprise you.

Oh yes. The ole, "I can't wait to see what other people do with it". Stop shipping half baked ideas. Problem with speech is the first time you have to repeat yourself the novelty is lost. Until we can naturally speak without canned phrases it will never be an acceptable form control.
