Microsoft needs to integrate Lists with or encode the structure into Loop to compete with Notion on Databases, particularly with Kanban charts. They also need to integrate directly with To-Do rather than Planner for MSA accounts.

Lists is just SharePoint Lists, they're a property of a SharePoint site. Dunno how that'd get integrated into Loop all that well, at least unless the Loop component existed in the same SharePoint site as the List. Otherwise you'd get massive permissioning issues. "They also need to integrate directly with To-Do rather than Planner for MSA accounts." Do they do either at the moment?

I tried Loop after being a semi-new Notion user and was sorely disappointed in the lack of features. I'm honestly surprised they released it as a Preview in the state that it's in.

You have to remember that Notion has been on the market for 10 years and Loop was launched a few months ago. For being at home in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, it will certainly attract many users.

You are not considering that Loop is new, and Notion was created over 5 years ago. Products develop over time. Don't forget the Slack vs Teams debate in the early days of Teams.

Teams only got big because so many companies were already entrenched in their corporate license agreements to Microsoft and they used that to push a no friction mass adoption of Teams; not necessarily because it was the superior product. That being said, I hope Loop succeeds and succeeds OneNote as the primary note taking application in their 365 suite.

I can't even get my coworkers to use Teams/Sharepoint for meetings and documents. And there's no way I'm going to rely on our IT people to turn on features I need when they roll out. This is going to be a bust.

Thanks for the mention Francesco. I agree that Loop has a long way to go before it has even half the features Notion has. But I don’t think that’s their focus. I do think we will see the list of components grow. But I think we will see more ways that Loop will integrate into core M365 products like Teams, and core M365 products integrate into Loop.

Loop has more potential than Notion. The ability to communicate within Microsoft applications streamlines productivity unlike jumping through hoop like notion.

I can't see myself using Loop. I know I don't use Notion to it's full capabilities but I use quite a bit of the media features, lots of tables images, embeds etc.

I do agree that at this stage, Microsoft Loop does not meet the standard to compete with Notion and I am using both Notion and MS365. Notion has a long history, a robust structure, and a large community that shares open-source components, making it an unfair comparison in terms of features and capabilities when compared to Microsoft Loop. Furthermore, when we consider the monthly subscription costs, the Notion business plan is nearly equivalent to subscribing to Microsoft 365 with integrated MS Loop. This provides an additional benefit for organisations with Microsoft 365 subscriptions for their team members. Given that many organisations heavily integrate with Microsoft tools, Notion can be seen as an extra investment.

Loop can't even do basic things like internal links between pages or exporting/printing a page. You can 'link' to a page by typing / or @ and then the page name, but if you click on the link, it pops open a new tab completely outside of Loop. Right now, Microsoft doesn't have a decent tool for creating searchable knowledge bases. Sharepoint is awful for that, even in combination with Microsoft Lists.

Several comments make the argument that "it's still new" "Notions has existed for 10 years" etc etc. Those excuses would work if Loop was some independent, small start-up company and not another app of a massive technology conglomerate that has the resources to develop and deploy fully realized applications and just choose not to. That's the problem. Microsoft isn't some mom and pop shop that needs time. They are shamelessly creating blatant ripoffs of popular applications and doing a lousy job of it.

To me, Loop has a much more beautiful UI/UX, and Notion looks dated but is way more feature-rich than Loop. I'm actually surprised they released it in Preview with so little components to choose from. I'm sure they will eventually add a lot more like Notion, it's just disappointing they had all this time and existing backend to connect in but releasing so slow. So for me, I'm sticking to OneNote and Notion for now, until Loop can catch up. But ideally i would like to drop all the apps and stick to one, the one who brings proper offline functionally first.

One other thing which will make a big difference to me -- and plenty other people, I'm sure -- will be whether MS Loop Full Desktop App manages to be released as a fully featured *native* program to Windows, OR if it will be just another badly integrated electron app. If the later happens to be the case, then it holds no inherent advantage over any of the other dozens of PKM and note-taking apps already in the market. It will also be telling of the decay MS is going through, if they're not able to come up with a fully featured proper native desktop app. MS has been quite about what Loop will ultimately be, so I'm not holding my breath for greatness.

There's zero chance of it being a native app. All the Loop stuff is cloud first and integrated all over the place from Outlook to Teams (they seem to be rolling out meeting notes as Loop components, which is great). It'll be web stuff only, 100% certainty. Absolutely no sense to make a native app.

@@Komatik_ Actually there is a lot of sense in making it a native app, namely flaunting Windows 11 as a premium experience. The only reason for it not to be native would be related with porting Loop more easily to other platforms (at the expense of dragging the Windows experience down) MS is shooting itself in the foot in the medium to long term, by making Loop electron, and thus a third-rate experience. Apple -- which for all its faults, knows how to create the impression of value in a brand -- would never do something like this.

What's the point of this another app by Microsoft that is half baked.... If you are going to copy/clone and then compete with Notion at least copy the best and most useful parts of Notion... For me Microsoft apps almost never work and integrate in an intuitive way... Smt

The strengths of the two are not the same is the thing. Notion's databases let you do interlinking in very useful ways and have a gazillion different views. They're really good. Loop-inside-Loop is just meh. But you know what's not meh? They're rolling out meeting notes as a Loop component. Means you can take notes inside Teams while the meeting is going on, and easily embed a live version of those same notes into an email or a chat or thread in Teams. That? Now that is gold. It's better to think of Loop as a bunch of microdocuments you can distribute inline in many places. That's the strength, not so much the actual featureset of the current microdocuments - those are mediocre at best.
