Microsoft seems to be doing everything to destroy Windows. Hiding Local accounts to make sure you can't have one, a Microsoft account only. Destroying the start menu, and more. At the same time, they are trying to make us forget about ARM PCs and AI.

This is correct. I was just lamenting yesterday how Windows 10 file copy dialogue doesn't even show you the absolute paths of files being copied now, which is rubbish. In Win 7 you can easily see where files are coming and going to/from, and if there's an issue you can easily spot where the problem is and go to it. You can't do that in Win 10 (without mods). For all of Win 10's pluses, there are far too many minuses. Microsoft has seriously lost its way.

I know right ? So many stuff, like the scheduler mentioned, both AMD with the mixed X3D chipsi and Intel with 12-14th gen had loads of problems, some of them still there to this day, almost 3 years after Windows 11 launched supposedly fixing these kind of issues. And many more things that people are complaining yet we learn that Microsoft instead of fixing these went to do things like making Edge forcefully the default or some apps ignore the default. Or steal the data from Chrome (which cannot happen by accident). Or block you from running certain executables, like that was what Windows was missing. In a way I'm happy they are doing that. And in the process all the telemetry and Recall with AI probably leaking reports about your use of the system so the 3 letter agencies can have a look... The direction is less independence for end user and greater control. IMO their long term goal is thin client computing and your Windows "PC" will be azure / cloud / VDI subscription. They don't give a damn about Windows as an OS. How many years of windows 10 settings + control panel still fragmented to hell. Its all about subs, azure, 365, re-occurring licensing. @jedipadawan7023
@jedipadawan7023 26 дней назад
@@jakejoyride Just for reference, a lot depends on the kernel and timing under Linux. When new tech appears it takes time for Linux to optimize so if the 12700 was new at the time then performance will not be optimized until a new kernel appears and even then you have to install the new kernel - though under Ubuntu it's not really a big deal. However, firmware can be an issue and it's work checking if your distro using the suppliers propitiatory firmware if you want best performance. Also, you can get speed optimized kernels though at cost to power consumption. The Liquorix and Xanmod kernels are pretty easy to install and are updated frequently. So it is possible that the default kernel of any distro at a particular time may not delver best performance and then it might be worth looking at an optimized kernel... or just waiting until a new kernel is released with better support for a brand new CPU.

My expectation is stable: I don't want to have to relearn Windows just because Windows wants to do huge pointless modifications to each version. If I really need to learn everything, then I do it with something that has a valid reason to be be learned: Linux. Otherwise, don't break it by trying to improve it when it was already working very well. And don't bloat it when people (1) don't have money to buy lates technology just to run your resource-hungry OS, (2) people already know how to install programs and they have their own list of favourite software saved somewhere. Being in XXIst century means listening to the ones that have made you great - your users - not expecting from them to be your doormat.

The good news is that if you don't want to deal with it, you have alternatives; however, you are forced to know how to use Microsoft products in most tech jobs unless you find a .Net free tech stack to work with. The cycle will never end because users will continue to support Microsoft, Apple, and Google because the alternatives don't have their software of choice. This is why companies have no incentive to change. The consumer is in a hell of their own making.

I liked Windows XP and 7 where you did your install off of the CD, made your local account, did your updates, installed all your programs and that was it. Off to the races. It's like with Windows 8/8.1 and the Windows Phone, they tried to change it into an online/service/app experience. Windows 10 went back towards the "power user" setup like XP and 7 had, but my major gripe with it was all the data collection/telemetry. Like if they had just done proper QC testing, there would be no need to constantly do that and monitor everything. Then you see all these online data breaches and government abuse of these products and I just decided to leave entirely and put Linux on my computer. At least they can't just say I agreed to hand over all my information. Windows 11 was a deal breaker for a lot of people because of this Recall thing. They stepped that back but there's nothing that says they can't just flip a switch and start collecting everything you do, or maybe they are doing it secretly anyway. That said, I run Linux Mint and keep a Windows 7 VM and it runs the few apps I need just fine.

Try setting up Linux for a old relative which you only see once or twice per year and you'd understand. For basic folk it's still just the easy "just works" way. And there are also cases where it's required for specific cases, like those stupid games with that rootkit they call anticheat, or those stupid Adobe programs (man, Microsoft should pay Adobe, they have no idea how many people wouldn't switch just because of Adobe products. Fortunately Adobe is so greedy and stupid, now alternatives are rising from people that got fed up with their BS) or simply developing Windows apps. Frustratingly is that also many, MANY big companies use the Microsoft ecosystem because they have everything they need - the Office suite, Active Directory, Teams, Windows enterprise which can be controlled pretty well. And such, they don't want to try alternatives, or stick to this but also offer Linux support for their staff, because in this day and age AI spending is more important that 2-3 extra guys in the IT deparment. So much hate.

I'm an Archlinux user. I'll tell you why Linux will probably never be mainstream: it's not user friendly. Linux inherently requires a level of technical know-how and the patience to solve problems. Do you know how much of a minority we are? 98% of users want a device that "just works". They will not google, they will not "read the manual". Everything must work immediately from the get go. One click and done. Almost no one wants to know what a package manager is. The Linux open source community takes a foolish pride in orienting things towards techies. Most people just want it to be accessible. Microsoft banks on that. Besides you and me, who cares about privacy? If the computer turns on and opens Microsoft Excel for their office job, they'll stick with it. I can guarantee you that 99% of current Windows users will never learn how to create a bootable USB. They'll use whatever comes pre-installed in their laptop or what everyone else around them uses. They are Microsoft's target demographic and Microsoft intends to make them more docile by offering AI to automate things. It is not the users' fault. As Linus Trovalts himself said, the problem with linux is the linux community. Because they don't put in the effort to welcome the average user. No one is gonna choose GIMP over Photoshop if GIMP remains shittier to use.

Windows' entire raison d'être post windows 7 is to vacuum up as much user data as possible to allow microsoft to train their crappy AIs, cash in on data brokers and other advertisers, and ultimately to quadruple dip on as many already paying customers as possible. Thats why these latest OSes are free updates now. Local accounts severely restrict that ability. It is still possible to make windows somewhat privateish through tweaking a LOT of deeply burried settings, but they are often reset after updates and you need to go through that whole process again on a regular basis to maintain that somewhat privateish state. Apple is a safer mainstream/convenient platform (though still far from perfect), but Linux all the way whenever possible!

Loosing track of what makes a good technical product in large corporation is what happens when the finance boys or at least the commercial side of things takes over. This happened to: (non exhaustive) Boeing, HP, Oracle .... and Microsoft. The sweet sport was around Windows 2000 / NT4 then it went down the drain. These OSes where incredibly lightweight and did what people wanted. Besides you did not need to put a drop of blood somewhere to make stuff work. With the odd licensing of Windows 10 and up, they actually fired the bulk of the engineers (too costly), so the end user is being the beta tester and then the OS decides to update (break) in the middle of your most sensitive business activity. Making this behaviour mandatory is just a big red flag for me besides being somewhat of a "middle finger to the customer". So, this prompted me to move over to Linux, not going back. I have some activities on Windows (software testing) but not on my main machine, not even dual boot. Linux breaks too, but at least it asks your permission. As you state, Windows needs to become an OS again, and nothing else. Extra functions, on the side should be an opt in.

Windows became very stable AND very intuitive with XP. Everyone talks about 7 and 8, etc. But they were steps down from XP. MS could have NOT ruined XP if they wanted to, and recognized how user-friendly XP was. THEY CHANGED XP INTO ALL ITS SUCCESSORS FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE ONLY. I still use XP for the tons of things it does better than any of the later Windows versions. Just because MS stopped supporting XP does not mean it wasn't a superior version. New technological improvements could still have been added to XP without abandoning it. The other reason it was deserted was financial. And that is one major factor that is driving all the subsequent, perpetual version changes since, and will continue to do so into the fufure. Obviously MS does not place the consumer before its own selfish motivations.

Look at what they’re doing with this “new outlook” that everybody seems to hate, and hasn’t got all the functionality of Outlook.
