In a landmark event on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, the Community Innovation Hub played host to a distinguished delegation from Microsoft, marking a significant day of inspiration, mentorship, and innovation.
As part of Microsoft Give Campaign effort designed for Microsoft staff globally to impact communities and lives, the African at Microsoft decided to volunteer their time and resources to support Community Innovation hub.
The visit provided a unique opportunity for the hub's natives to not only showcase their groundbreaking inventions but also to glean insights from the team's tech giant journey to success.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome as the Microsoft team immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the Community Innovation Hub. The aim of their visit was clear-to foster creativity, share knowledge, and uplift talents.
The Microsoft team took a comprehensive tour of the Community Innovation Hub, immersing themselves in the unique environment that fosters collaboration and growth. Witnessing firsthand the impact of technology on local communities.
The team was led to the community hub by Mr Yemi Orimolade, a senior Business Program Manager (ADC) at Microsoft with other notable senior staff of Microsoft Nigeria.
The highlight of the event was getting to know the team, Question and answer where the Microsoft team shared insights into their humble beginnings, the challenges they overcame, and the key lessons learned on their journey to becoming a global tech giant , spoken words, mentorship sessions where Microsoft experts engaged with the hub's natives, offering invaluable guidance on honing their skills and also showcasing of projects.
Egahi S. O, a staff of Microsoft, Nigeria during the mentorship session said "If you think of yourself as a programmer, then chapGPT would replace you, but if you see yourself as a problem solver, then programming is a tool.”
According to Soji Megbowon, a volunteer Mentor at Community Innovation Hub (CIH), CIH is not a computer centre as some might limit it to be. “The organisation is an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion tech innovation HUB that brings together out-of-school children and teenagers from underserved backgrounds, connecting them with the hub’s shared vision of raising young innovators and problem-solvers committed to changing the world through the power of technology.
As the day concluded, Microsoft's visit left an indelible mark in the natives of Community Innovation Hub, underlining the transformative power of mentorship.
