Microtouch Titanium Trim review #3: I cut my son's hair! [264] 

I got the Microtouch Titanium Trim a couple of days ago & I trimmed my hair. I think it did a great job. In fact, I wanted to get some unbiased opinions, so I told my sister (who is VERY critical & VERY picky), "I finally got to my hairstylist & he trimmed my hair; what do you think of it?" She said, "It's great; he did a beautiful job!" I said, "I'm glad you like it, 'cuz I did it myself." SHE WOULDN'T BELIEVE ME." Today, I was visiting a friend & I played the same trick on her. She also said, "Wow, it looks great!" Even including shipping, the cost is less than ONE haircut. But what I really like is that I can have my hair exactly the length I want--which is medium length--all the time.

I'm giving this video a thumbs up for 3 reasons. (1) HONESTY! I like that in a review. (2) Your son squirmed but didn't run and scream - lol. AND (3) - Three Hands! Now that's impressive! (smiles)

Thanks Jeff. Based on your first 2 reviews I bought this trimmer and used it. It works great on women's short haircuts, too. A couple of things; aside from making sure hair is clean, dry, and product-free before cutting. If you're hair is longer than the longest trim guard, take some scissors and 'whack it off' to a workable length. Don't get overly fussy about it being even, you just need to get the extra long stuff off. Then, as you showed, start with the long guard and work your way down to as short as you want it. My only complaint is that for some reason it seem to 'chew' the hair on my left side (I'm extremely right handed so it was probably operator error) but it feels 'crimped'. I need to take another pass at that. It really helped to have my husband available clean up the uneven places in the back of the head and clean the hairline at the collar. But overall, as an emergency clipper until we can get into a salon without dying of plague, this works really well. I've used dog clippers on the pets before and this was much, much easier to use on me (yeah, I was getting desperate enough to be eyeing the dog clippers before I saw your review). The key here is to use this for routine maintenance of an otherwise well-groomed hairstyle. Not so much for an all-out haircut on longer hair. Once hair is grown-out to the lengths shown in these videos, better to have it professionally done as necessary and able. This is a trimmer. It's meant for interim maintenance.

I bought the item about 2weeks ago but the instructions in the pamplet do not fully explain how to use the unit to cut/trim your hair. So, this morning I went on You Tube searching to see if a full guide/video was uploaded. I found your video and after viewing your video I used the item to cut and trim my hair. Thanks for the video. Now I can use the item confidently.

Great review ,Jeff. I have cut my own hair for many years after getting bad cuts from salon. If y sit up a rear mirror on back of the door it will help.That way your able to move and direct your head.I use the old" razor King:".Works well.

Just bought one and tried it yestersday. I liked it but it was tough to do the back because my arms are to big and not flexible. Had my girlfriend follow-up and it did really good 👍 Thanks for your video's

I think you could have done a better job. Tip #1: Use two hands. One to stabilize your sons head. This will give you a more even cut as the blade remain flush on his head and not slip away. Tip #2: Use a comb and comb his hair as you make each pass. This again will allow a more even cut. Overall not bad. I think for kids it great between cuts. but for adults i would pass

just got mine today, batteries gave out right away, think they were junky batts, had a mop and a half and even with the batteries dying I got a pretty good haircut, gotten worse at "professional" places. With new batteries and a weekly clean up I would imagine it keeping you nice and fresh. Seems a little flimsy though but it really exceeded my expectations

going over and over it is a given unless your hair is really short. when i would trim my beard i had to do the same thing because i let it get pretty long before trimming. if my hair was as short as your beard one pass or maybe two would probably work.

I recently received my unit. I tried it out and it cuts, however it won't replace any barbers. I'm on the fence, if I'm going to keep it. I'll use it several more times before I decide. At best it's a "stop-gap" until you can get to a real barber or stylist.

The reason the batteries didn't last long is - the ones that came with the trimmer were NOT ALKALINE BATTERIES. They wouldn't last very long in ANY DEVICE. Usually, the 'rechargeable batteries, like the ones used are Ni-MH Batteries...and they have a LOWER VOLTAGE than standard ALKALINE batteries or even Li-ION batteries...which have a voltage of 1.5v, as opposed to Ni-MH batts which are 1.2v. Ultimately, Ni-MH Batteries will NOT perform as well as am ALKALINE BATTERY, mainly because of its LOWER voltage AND its LOWER mAh rating.

Good video. Your son sat still. However, even after many passes, no hair was being cut. Hmmm. Maybe you should have used a shorter guard?

Well now I watched both and this video confirmed it, that thing is way to slow for me and not impressed with the batteries either. When regular clippers goes through my with one stroke hair comes off, definitely wont buy that clipper now, good review thanks for sharing....

I bought one of these awhile back. Worked just fine for my needs for quite awhile. Just today though, it just KAPUT and stopped working. I put in new batteries, and the light on it still flashes just once and it won't power on. I wonder what the problem is? Maybe I overheated it from using it too long? I dunno.

I’ve used two hair cutting systems over the past 30+ years, the “Flow-bee”and the “Robocut”. The Flow-bee IMO is total junk and it’s noisy as hell. The Robocut I’ve used since it was advertised in the classifieds of Popular Science, and the earliest version attached to an electric screwdriver, it by far is the better of the two systems. They even used it on the international space station as I remember. I probably wont purchase this Microtouch because it doesn’t allow for longer hair to be cut, although it is easier to use than the two that I mention. Anyway my 2 cents, and a very nice job on the review, thanks.

Son's hair is such a pretty color it looks like you can eat it like a pastry frosting or something LOL Hope that doesn't sound creepy lol

You should make a video of how you style your hair. Do you blow dry it first? And what product do you use?

Very nice job, you be better off getting more powerful clippers. It's good for a beard trim but takes too long on hair cut 💇‍♀️ 💇‍♂️

Thank you Jeff, for your 3 reviews on this product. Before watching your reviews, I read customer satisfaction reviews, the vast majority of which were dismal. Your hands-on demo confirmed their expressed dissatisfaction. You were generously gracious in saying it cut "pretty good". I did not find the results in your haircut demo to be good on any scale. As for the beard trimming, it was mediocre at best. And the short battery life is simply unsatisfactory. I wonder if they were of a subpar manufacture. Regardless, I definitively will not be purchasing this product and my search goes on. Your demos were helpful in affirming the many poor customer reviews. Again, thank you for your informative effort on this!

i spent a half hour using all the blades, eventually using the 1/4 inch one, going every which way. basically all it did is thin out your hair. if you want to actually shorten your hair, forget this. and to make matters worse, combing my hair for the last hour, i can still feel knots, and the same with running my fingers through it. stay away!!!

Jeff: According to the instruction pamphlet, the cutting blade is supposed to come out for cleaning. I must be a mechanical-ignoramus because I couldn't get it apart. Help!

Someone just invented a hairclipper. Just a shame that it have been invented ages ago. So basically I don't get the point of this product. It is just an average hairclipper, nothing new, apart from a strange design. I guess the good old hairclipper, with a cord, is better and more user friendly. That is at least a true and tested product that have stood the strong decades after decades. This strange TV-shop clipper that runs out of battery in no time, no, I would not buy it. I have a hirclipper from a professional brand (Jaguar-Solingen), and it is way more silent than this TV-shop mosquito. My professional hairclipper was probably not more expensive either, especially since you will have to buy a lot of batteries for that TV-shop crap.
