well, he does say somethings that arent very true, for example 7:42 he says u need 4 minions to freeze a lane, but u don't because of this being midlane, because of this if u only keep 3 minions at full hp his reinforcing minions will come and then he would have a total of 4 minions 1 left over from the previous 3 casters therefore u have a minion disadvantage he is still right but not all the way right, however the way I said it requires there not to be minion buff on your minion (minions can get buffed throughout the game based on turrets and advantage

I've never seen such a good video about wave management. All the videos out there tell you just the basics and don't really get in depth and show the objective of slow pushing and so. I'm a jungler and don't really play midlane at all but you managed to make it so a toplaner, support or jungler can take advantage of this knowledge too. You are just incredible and a really good coach. Hope you are doing great with all this of the quarantine and keep the good content up. Greetings from Argentina :)

Coming back to League recently and being an Iron scrub, it frustrates me when educational league channels assume that their viewers know what they mean when they talk about freezing, slow pushing, tempo, etc and say things like they "don't understand how you could be bad enough to be in Iron." With this series of videos, you defy all that and have been giving me the tools I actually need to improve form square one as opposed to watching a bunch of theory that goes way over my head. Thank you!

I always thought of laning in league as a mini chess game, It's almost entirely strategic and this is for me what it makes it so competitive and addicting in it's own way. As a TF main I've spent countless hours of watching dopa replays trying to interpret his movements. When I started to realize what he does, I completely fell in love with the game. Your insight is really beautiful and your way of explaining things is something I haven't seen in similar content. You got a sub.

Appreciate it Zen, League is very much like a number of complex mini games running simultaneously, in which your job is to identify which games are being played and be able to adapt to each one constantly. Freezing is better when you are healthy and you want to deny them exp and put them into risky situations, as often people will overextend to break the freeze. Wow, this vid is just great. It made so clear the way tempo works, however I still have a few questions about waves. (sorry if they are too much questions) 1. What is the difference in the viktor vs yasuo example when the wave slow pushes towards him, and in the orianna vs irelia when orianna slow pushes into you? Could have yasuo punished you for being that far up as you punished orianna? I am not sure if the best decision as an immobile high range mage (I am playing a lot of Viktor) would be to have the wave under your tower as much as possible or to slow push to have the minion advantage. 2. In the same example when you were slow pushing towards yasuo, could he have gotten a free recall and an item advantage and then all in you despite the minion advantage? Or what was the correct play from his side? Again sorry if they are too much questions, your video clarified a lot to me but I just couldn´t get those out of my mind. Keep up with the good job man. Thanks a lot.

Hey curtis, Should i control the wave based on jungler or the enemy mid laner? If i am versus an jarvan for example, let the enemy push the first wave so i cant get ganked lvl 2, is that worth? or just push and ward? Idk exactly how to start the lane. I am from brazil, big fan of your videos :))
@CoachCurtis
@CoachCurtis 4 года назад
You need to take into account both, sometimes you'll be in situations where your matchup benefits from contesting lvl 2, but you are versing a j4. So you need to adapt your warding timings/leaning in the lane so you can safely do so. Experiment with differing ward timings and strategies, aslong as you are taking into account both factors and hypothesizing and testing you will improve. Hi from Australia! If the minion wave is pushed toward your tower like at 10:20 the new minion waves will reach each other at the exact same time because the distance between each wave is always the same. Its just that some of the previous wave's minions survive so you have the advantage.

My issue is from level 1 i never know wether i should let my opponent push in (sometimes i have no choice) so i have larger room to all in him closer to my tower lv 2-3 OR try to shove it in and gain a minion/level lead so that i can bully him out with my advantage (making it so if hes stronger my lead dosent let him kill and if im stronger i can deny cs) If you could help me out in understanding why/in what situation id do one or the other i would hugely appreciate it, also im plat 2, diamond last season, if thats any relevant. Thanks for the help man!

Hey man great question, I still to this day have been trying to figure out ways to get this information across at scale, but what I realized is that the decision to push lvl 1 or to not push really is matchup dependent and jg dependent. For example if you are playing Kat vs Syndra you really can't contest lvl 1 anyway so youur going to get pushed in, but as Kat vs Vlad you can probably push in, BUT if it's KAt vs vlad and you are versing a j4 jungle, then maybe you shouldnt push lvl 1 because you will be very vulnerable to ganks. This is why I recommend having a small niche champ pool so you can really understand the matchups and what 'feels' best for lvl 1 and 2 in differing matchups. Have a hypothesis and test it, see what the outcome is and review it after to see what could have been done differently. The main things you need to understand is gank threat, lvl 2 power, and ability to cs under tower

That was a really clear explanation of tempo, so that finally is making sense. You demystify the concepts I've heard thrown around for ages! Furthermore, I paused at 32:45 and was able to walk myself through what was happening with the lane! If that were me playing, though, I probably would have walked back to the tower and recalled, or wasted time before deciding to push the wave and losing more tempo. In the next few days I'll try and pay attention to this especially. My wave management has already seen massive improvement from your videos. Thanks again!

Hey Curtis! I really love your videos because I can use most of the information in them and apply it to toplane. Just like this video, how to properly manage waves, or how to understand my champion micros, etc.. Only thing is, I usually duo with a good friend of mine who mains Ryze. He watched your videos a lot and now his roaming toplane and his impact on the whole map has seriously improved, but I was wondering... As a toplaner, maining Kayle, should I try and roam mid to feed even more my duo Ryze? Should I invest time in teamfights early or should I stick to splitpush until I reach level 16? I know it’s a very long question, but I don’t really know how to have a bigger impact on the game earlier than when I reach level 16... Thank you for all of your videos! They help much more than you think!
@CoachCurtis
@CoachCurtis 4 года назад
As Kayle you don't really have the ability to roam, as Kayle you kind of need to just focus on your lane and getting as much gold as possible. Unfortunately I don't know too much about the top lane meta atm but I do know that if you roam as kayle you are going to be putting yourself in some bad positions. Only group for teamfights. Thanks for tuning in Alexis! Also be carefful when playing Kayle/Ryze duo, that is a lot of scaling!

Hey Curtis, trying to get better at wave management in the mid lane and of course your videos are extremely helpful! A lot of people talk about freezing a lane for virtually forever. How is this possible? Whenever I try and freeze my wave, it always seems to just be slow pushing out. What is the rule of 4 minions when it comes to freezing? Do I just have to suck it up and miss some CS to delay the wave from slow pushing?
@CoachCurtis
@CoachCurtis 4 года назад
You are probably thinnning the wave too much, there needs to be atleast a 4 minion advantage. In mid lane freezes very rarely happen due to how easy it is for the enemy to push it in given the length of the lane and also how important pressure is. So I wouldn't stress too much about this concept as a mid laner

25:10 While LS does talk a lot about freezing, he mostly talks about freezing in mid to late game in competitive games. He even says that you should *not* try to do this in soloq except for maybe super specific spots. He recently did a "coaching" with the LEC ADC Crownshot on Kog'Maw which is a good example for a spot where this strategy can work (and also an example for why it's still really sketchy in soloq, even in a challenger game). Also later on the stream he showed the game from the enemy laners perspective who got frozen on and, I've got to say, that was one of the saddest and most uncomfortable things I've ever watched :D
@CoachCurtis
@CoachCurtis 4 года назад
I think Freezing is a lot more common in bot lane haha, in mid it's a lot less effective because mid lane is the central point of pressure in the map AND the lane is so short compared to botlane so it's a loss less effective in that sense. Also in bot lane if you have no way to get vision there is no place to lean so you are kind of screwed. Thanks for the clarification man :)
@JesseTheGameDev

Around 7:40 you were saying that the wave wouldn't freeze. But I thought in that situation, you just needed the enemy to have a 3 red minion advantage for the wave to auto-freeze?

so what do i do, when my also low elo, enemy doesnt care that he shouldnt engage on me, but does anyway, and then like, somehow wins. like, i fought a jayce, its wave 1. im a viktor, the guy walks up behind my minions and deadass solo kills me, in an isolated 1v1 even tho my minions turned on him, and my Q is an AA reset with a shield

Hey man thanks for the content I have a question regarding the new s11 minion power were lane minions have different damage taken and damage dealt depending on level and kill lead, how does this affect wave management?
