Here’s how I pre start my Ranunculus:
Around the first of March, I soak them for a couple of hours (change the water every hour to keep bacteria from forming) and then I place the corms in slightly moistened potting soil in a potting tray without holes. I place the tray of Ranunculus corms in my office closet which stays dark and about 65 degrees F for about 2 weeks until they start to sprout. During the two weeks, I keep an eye on the tray to make sure it stays moist but not wet and that none of the corms have molded. I then place the tray of sprouted corms under my grow lights for a couple of days and let them get adjusted to being out of darkness.
Next, I watch the weather to see if I can safely start to harden them off and then after another week or so, I plant them out in the garden bed. I have hoops and frost blanket ready in case the nighttime temps dip too low and then uncover them during the day. From the time you start the pre sprouting process to bloom will take about 3 months so be patient! They are worth the wait!
