Hello fellow book adventurer! I've been questioning if I want to do the midyear book freakout tag, so while viewing some others, I found your channel! You habe so many beautiful copies of books! How fun and delightful! I've never heard of The Unexpected Mrs Pollifax and that just seems so delightful and fun. I'll have to pick up this series. Or start it 😅 Delighted that I found you and Subscribed to keep up with the wonderful recommendations 😊

My favourite reads so far are; The Women by Kristin Hannah, One by One by Ruth Ware and The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman. A character that I’ll remember for awhile might be Lenni from The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margo (Fiction). Surprise read was This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger. Disappointing read was The Guest by Lucy Foley. Nothing has made me cry. I’d like to continue Louise Penny’s Inspector Gormache series. Enjoy every single video you produce! 😊

When I turned on U-tube and saw you posted, I was incredibly happy (esp. being stuck in this Rehab after hosp. Not going good at all. I am very sick w/ this potentially life threatening infection. Also incredible to me; most hospitals and Rehab's have NO CLUE how to make care of Type 1 Diabetes, which I have been for 44 yrs. next month diagnosed as child). Very sick from sugars OVER 500! I only have God to rely on. ANYHOW, another definite CHEER UP! I almost cried when you mentioned THE BLUE BEDROOM! I brought it in w/ me and just started read it this afternoon after P.T.! I've only read the first 3 stories and loved every one ! I even showed the P.T an older reader I very interested in. It is the PERFECT BOOK for me at this time of my life. My supper even got cold fromreading! HA! I LOVED win crisis and will never forget it. My eldest daughter was collecting bks. for her first yr. of teaching 6th grade; and bought a copy for me because I am a true dog lover. She had such a cute Reading Corner made from trash (good) cleaned it all up, repainted some, put plants, huge floor pillows, and water bottles ! I also bought a beautiful copy of Heidi from B& N. Don't buy much there anymore,prices too high. Now I want to read Mrs. Polifax. A few of my older friends really like her. I was scanning Amazon earlier and found the 3 D.E Stevenson series! I remembered you mentioned Victoria Mansion. I wondered if I should order just the 1st or all 3. What do you recommend? I would order so they would be at my home by the time I leave here(July 27!! 😑😑). Saw some bks. on my TBR carts. Once I get rid of/ hopefully can sell, I plan to buy ceiling to floor like I used to have in my house. Had a separate craft room. I think so far my favorite book of the yr. is Winter Solstice. Actually went Dec. 23 into Jan. 24. My friends who do read ( not that many😐 ) really like Louise Penny. I only read one of those detective? police chief bks. and just couldn't get into it; will have to try again. DEFINITELY want to read the bks. about E.B. White. I only read Charlotte The Pig as a child. It was my younger sister's fave bk. Also came across Eliz. Goudge bks. I remember one in my parent's box on shelves called " Green Dolphin Street" saw one called The Fragrance of Water? The ?? Of Water? Have you read either one? I leaned toward Green Dolphin Street, but the other sounded good too. Your opinion? Well, I've kept you too long again and with both arms incapacitated, it's painful to communicate in any way. Thank you SOOO much for uplifting my rotten day!🤗

Hi Jen!😊. My top read so far has been Kate Morton's The Lake House, lovely writing and story, a really nice middle grade ballet series is by Lorna Hill, there are at least 12 books all based at Sadler wells. Like you I am a big ballet fan. Eva Ibbotson's company of swans is also a nice read. I really enjoy your channel!👍. Added more books to my tbr!

So sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Pirouette! That one has been on my tbr since DSP republished it. Anything set in the ballet or theatre world and I'm there! I quite enjoyed The Ballet Family by Mabel Esther Allan. It's more ballet adjacent, as it centres around a young girl who isn't a dancer, but the relatives she goes to live with are all involved with the ballet in some way. Of course, my absolute favourite ballet book will always be Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild! 🩰❤
@jensreadinglife

It was so disappointing. And I love books about ballet. Ballet Shoes is also one of my favorites. Have you read Hester’s Story by Adele Geras? If not, I highly recommend it. It’s set in the world of ballet. 😊

Hi Jen, I checked my books upstairs and found the Rosamunde Pilcher books that are short stories. First I read and liked The Blue Bedroom, then I read and loved Flowers in the Rain and other Stories. Then I have another that I haven’t read yet called A Place Like Home. I’m so glad I have those short stories to look forward to! I seem to really love her short stories. 😊 I hope you can find these. 😊

I am new to your videos. We have similar reading tastes and I love cats! Thanks for reminding me about Bas Bleu. You have probably read this already but Eva Ibbotson’s “ A Company of Swans” is one you might like being about a ballet dancer. And check out Dorothy Gilman’s “The Tightrope Walker”. A cute little mystery.

Another video full of goodness! What a great way to end my week! I have found some copies from the Mrs. Pollifax series, however, I thought I’d heard you say you have to read them in order. Is that strictly true? I want to get started but haven’t had any luck finding the first 3 second hand. Also, would it be a lot to ask if you could link in the description box the sources of your beautiful edition books ? I don’t know where to find find lovely editions like your Emma one and the Heidi. I’m going to adopt Sherlock’s phrase “This is a 3 pipe problem”😂😂. Ps: I don’t care for the fictional crush question. It’s kinda meh.
@jensreadinglife
@jensreadinglife 3 месяца назад
I think it’s probably helpful to read Mrs. Pollifax in order, especially book one first which sets the stage. I’m not sure if characters recur in later books so that might spoil things if they do. Feel free to ask me about any edition of a book I have! I get my books from lots of different sources so just tell me if there’s something specific you want and I will try to link it. I think I linked both Emma and Heidi in this video description. 😊

I had high hopes for Vittoria Cottage - loved Amberwell and Miss Buncle’s book - I had 3 hours to go on the audiobook and stopped because of the relationship/ attitude of Carolyn towards her son - elevating him to saint like status. I might go back to it because I had mostly enjoyed it til the son came into it - ( her attitude not his is my problem) Will check out Mrs Pollifax - sounds great.
@jensreadinglife
@jensreadinglife 3 месяца назад
It’s funny how different parts of books affect people differently. Her relationship to her son didn’t bother me but I can see what you mean about it. I mostly thought it was because she was a product of her generation, raised to revere their sons. I hope you enjoy Mrs. Pollifax - she’s so much fun!

Hi Jen, Found a charming book of garden writing from Mitzi, by Katherine White the wife of EB White, about flower catalogs! Loving it. Onward and Upward in the Garden. So charming. 😊😊 And if you liked The Blue Bedroom, you will love Rosamunde Pilcher’s other book of stort stories that were out of vintage magazines. I can’t remember the title exactly but very good!! I will have to look that up. 😊😊 Thank you.

I've definitly been reading a lot more fiction since the end of last year when I started watching booktubers. the last couple of days was mostly catching up in my one year Bible reading plan - no regrets - but that's probably partly because I picked a library book and a kindle that I'm not sure about and am itching to start another kindle that's from the library LOL! I find myself looking at the iindle %read instead of relaxing. the kindle book I own - Rosumunde Pilcher's Winter Solstice- I htink you mentioned it and someone else had recommended it - Gina I think - but I didn't realize there was a death involved that I didn't want LOL! not that I like reading about death but I didn't mind one but not the other and she's still setting the stage but now that I've recovered more or less I went back to it this mornign during a break at work. the other was recommended by someone else Zero Days by Ruth Ware and it's a bit much for me but I'm determined to get through it (though I'm extra scared now that I sorta cheated and peeked at the end and know...) kinda feel since I knew the character would die at the beginning and I got through that description (blech) what's left?! but then I went nutso with kindle ebooks, library books, and 2 orders back to back from bookoutlet..eeks.. I've overloaded myself!

Trey’s identity is a pretty big spoiler for those who have not read the book.
@jensreadinglife
@jensreadinglife 3 месяца назад
That is true. I probably should have been more discreet but the synopsis on the dust jacket of The Hunter gives away her identity so it was hard to know how to talk about it without mentioning her. I’m still learning but will try to more circumspect or give a spoiler warning in the future.

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher is my favorite book of the year; best series-Maisie Dobbs, biggest disappointment-The Stranger by Albert Camus, newest release I want to read is the winner of the women's fiction prize-Brotherless Night by V.V. Ganeshananthan, new favorite author-Lisa Scottoline and Shelby Van Pelt; I want to read more mysteries and hopefully books written by authors from other countries other than the U.S., Canada and England.
