How lovely to see you here again! I really enjoyed hearing you talking about all of these books. Loved seeing Ross Gay pop up in this video. He really is very special. I hope you're doing well! Have a lovely weekend.
Great to see a new video from you today! I need to try more Willa Cather. I've had a couple of hits and a big miss so far. Elena Knows was perhaps my saddest book last year. Oooh! I want that Vegan Boards book. And I've seen those cookies in the store; will have to try them. Great tag!
Thanks Angelia! Definitely recommend Vegan Boards by Kate Kasbee! And the Fresas con Crema Siete cookies are crispy cookies. At first bite the flavor is warm like malt. At the last bite you get a bit of sweet tart flavor of strawberry.
I'm not doing a Midyear freakout tag this year. Hasn't been a good reading year for me, have only probably completely read one out of about 20 books, and I don't even remember what that one was. Just tonight I think I'm DNFing Babel after 26 pages. I need to figure out how/if I can read and enjoy reading more. I'm super critical now about everything I try. I can't appreciate books from the standpoint of a reader. I'm constantly judging like why did they put this word here? Why does this sentence have three commas? Why say the character name instead of simply saying he? (👀 Babel) I'm not sure if possibly I just no longer much enjoy reading, especially enough to keep up with book reviews on my channel. It takes so much time to try to read and I don't like most of what I read. And I read classics almost exclusively, and think they suck. So what am I to do? I'd really lean more only toward my own writing, but those videos get practically no views.
I wonder about Babel a whole lot and have not yet read it...I recently DNF'd a VERY popular book and I rated the last two books for each of my irl book clubs two stars...so I get the feeling of "not enjoying books like other readers" and feeling "critical" especially when everyone else in the groups rates the books at 4 or 5 stars. Audiobooks sometimes help me...not sure if you're into audiobooks...also taking breaks is a very healthy thing to do. Sending you warm well wishes and great writing! :-)
So curious to know what this gut-wrenching book you just finished that topped everything is!!! The suspense is killing me XD I've heard such good things about Elena Knows, it's been on my list for a while now! Bandit Queens on the screen would be great, I agree.
