I was working poor in NZ ten years ago. Still can’t afford Jaffa house prices though. I recently met several other kiwis overseas say the same thing. They can’t afford to return either. House prices been rising for nearly twenty years straight. Crazy shit。

This is an all too common story in New Zealand, this standard of living for the working poor is unacceptable. Hard working families trying to pay their mortgages with the added over the top interest rates, insurances, as well as the property rates ..all whilst on a combined miniscule income. And what is the government doing about it? Absolutely zilch, rather, putting all their efforts in to passing the 'TPPA', which will make things a whole lot worse for everyone. Very sad.

This story makes no sense to me. My brother pays 360 a week for his mortgage and im paying 450 a week renting. How can you not afford a mortgage? These people need to learn about how finance works before they commit to such things. Like buying a car but not knowing basic maintenance.

This was the result of the National Government when a businessman run the country. NZ was a market-driven economy that did not give a rats asshole to family and healthcare. I agree that when maori lost owner ship of the land it was down hill from that point...for the majority...Also I dont know the numbers but many didnt stick with school due to mistreatment or jus not seeing the value in the Europeans educational system...
