Paxton Ladner came to us sitting 80-82; 4 months later, he was sitting 85 T86. Check out the full progression here: ru-vid.comQ2l1BhABvfQ?si=eq6jClsjcs1MtTrF

2006 coaching and trying to win So Cal to go to the junior little league World Series we came up against a 14 year old lefty throwing 85. Somehow we came back in the last inning down 4-0 and won 5-4. The pitcher was the late and great Tyler Scaggs. RIP.

When he's not opening up early he's looking filthy. Just refine consistency right now and he's gonna be golden that's it.

Good for him, he probably has a bright future. As others have said, however, being his size so early is a huge advantage right now that will have gone away by age 18 or so. You can see from Perfect Game info that he was nearly his full height while he was still 12 years old, meaning he's already been able to get used to his full-height body, and probably growth plates in his arms fully formed, for a while now. You add that to being a little old for his 2028 class, and that's a really big deal... Sure looks like he will be a great pitcher regardless though.

Lots of the usual grousing in the comments, but he's 6'4" 185 at 14 5 mo. Competitive sports become a genetic lottery sooner or later. That’s on the older side for 8th grade in parts of the country, but nothing dramatic. Early puberty, genes for size, good training. Stud. It's biology and physics, not cheating. My kid is 8th grade too, but nearly a year younger because NY cutoffs are different. His fellow 2028s from neighboring NJ are a year older like this kid. In our 13U travel ball, the NJ teams are all 2029s and NY 2028s. My 13 kid is 5'10" 165 throwing 77 and seems likely to add another few inches, pounds, and mph in a year, since I’m 6'4". Doesn’t mean he'll be outperforming at 19 when everyone is done growing!

Genetic lottery is right, I’m 14 class of 28 in Boston and im 5’7 sitting mid to low seventies. It’s nothing mechanical but to reach that 80 mark it’s going to take some genetics eventually.

@mr_waddlingduck5343 The act of pitching is an unnatural motion. Pitching has a 73% injury rate, elbow and shoulder injuries up 44% compared to 2022. You're incredibly lucky if you don't blow out your shoulder or elbow. It's not just mechanics.

Middle school, but he's 14 yrs 5 months as of March 2024. Still very good, but on the older side for his grade. Makes a difference at this age. I guess we did it backwards as my 2029 lefty son has a June bday so as a 7th grader he won't turn 13 until June this summer. Already throwing mid 70s but could stand to throw more strikes 😂

Love your YT channel and what Tread Athletics is offering all these young men. My 9 yr 5-month-old grandson was recorded pitching 51, 50, 52, 52 mph at 8 yrs 11 months old and at only 4'5" tall. Not long levers but pure mechanics to the limit.

Looked very good. Loved the advice of throwing the different pitches like fastballs and letting the grip do the work. Maybe work on trying to get a larger speed differential between the change up and fastball. His control of the change up was great, but going from 85 to 80 isn’t too big of a difference

I could throw mid 80’s at 13 but I was almost 6’ tall and 185 lbs. I just got bored with it. Things were a lot different back in ‘79 tho. I think Reggie and Nolan were making $1 mil but not many more. We had some great pitchers back then but only 1 made it to the majors. He could hit 90’s tho, just a different level.

I always worry about young men that age throwing any kind of breaking balls. I'm not worried about how hard he throws. When I was in middle school I threw that hard along with curves sliders Sinkers. By the time I was a junior in high school I had 2 Tommy John surgeries. And it ruined any chance for college. I was being recruited by all the big schools. After the 2ed surgery all those offers disappeared. Now granted it was in the 80s and I'm sure the surgeries have gotten better. Please be careful with this young man.

why do people think these kids cheat with their age? His age is his age. You can't lie about your age. What makes these kids different is that they have abnormal genetics in terms of their physicality. He is 5 years ahead of his peers genetically. Literally. He has probably dominated since he was about 9 and will continue to until about junior year when everyone with normal genetics catch up.
