Middleton Family at 1939 NY Worlds Fair Meets a Robot 

When I was a little Soviet kid I read (from an old science book published in Moscow in 1970) an article about this, the robot smoking a sigaret just to show that smoking is bad. Now I have a chance of seeing it all with my own eyes! You know this is really amazing, like a true time machine that sends me back to witness this event.

The quality of this footage.... stunning. Hard to believe this is from 1939 and not a reenactment shot on modern cameras.

Fantastic footage. Robot less than I'd expect even for 1939. Pretty sure Elektro's speech was not response at all but just a pre-recorded monologue spoken in an exaggerated robot voice.

Fun fact: The boy (Jimmy Lydon ) is still alive to this day at 97 years old.
