I Noticed Costco stopped selling this product already and some reviews from amazon say its faulty due to the way the product is manufactured i.e filter breaking & galvanized strip holding the condensate tubing rusting easily & causing issues. This seems like a common thing with Midea - cutting costs which results in issues. Similar to the Midea U Shaped units that didn't include a drain hole (now they do). I suspect they will stay in business because they don't have much competition (Company that manufactures GE & Whirlpool products). I hope they consider taking more time testing products instead of letting them last only 2 year.
Great review. When dehumidifiers are listed by square footage, is it assuming a single open space and not a house with rooms? How does a unit in my living room impact a bathroom on the other side of the house?
I purchased 2 of this model in 2022. BOTH have failed recently within a week of each other. One had extreme ice building up on each side of the unit, and the other just stopped dehumidification (no water in the bucket at all). I've read reports of other similar failures. It seems that the refrigerant is leaking out of the paper thin coils used. Once this occurs, the unit cannot be recharged or repaired.
I'm guessing from the form factor alone this is a desiccant dehumidifier? Would be nice if manufacturers and reviewers made this distinction (Midea doesn't give any technical details on their product page). Many of us have gotten burned on bad Chinese coils that can't handle refrigerant in traditional dehumidifier.
The dehumidifier's moisture removal rate is 50 pints/day. Its bucket capacity (how much water it can collect before you need to empty its bucket) is 34 pints.
Any opinion on the Midea 4,500 Sq. Ft. Energy Star Certified Dehumidifier With Pump Included 50 Pint - MAD50P1AWS. It has a smaller water holding capacity than the cube, but I don’t really care about water holding capacity as it will hooked to drain. Will it work well and efficiently for a 1200 square foot space?
If you hook it up to a drain, you will be forced to use the continuous mode which bypasses the desire humidity level settings and the machine will not stop running unless you use timer or schedule option.
I've unfortunately not had a chance to test third party filters for different models yet. I can tell you that I've only ever bought genuine filters for my own air purifiers, though they're not nearly as expensive as IQAir filters.
@@consumer-analysis I paid $1,194.29 for the replacement pre filter, post filter, Multigas cartridges & mobility wheels on the IQAir GCX. Needless to say, I would not have bought it, if I didn’t need it. I have a really bad problem. I run 2 IQAirs, a 1200 CFM MERV 14 filter, 3 fans with 4 windows open 24/7 & sometimes it’s still not enough to get TVOCs down safe levels.
bought it yesterday set it to 45% shuts off around 57% gauge is useless not accurate at all. it's going back .. bought it at home depot .. try a different brand.
