Midge fly patterns are often overlooked by fly anglers. Midges are the most common aquatic insect we have in rivers. They're everywhere.. Winter through the dog days of August they play an important role. Lately midge activity has been very prolific on the Missouri River. Not so much nymphing but fishing dry flies. Fish have been chowing singles and clusters. While most are fishing clusters, Griffith's Gnats, I've been fishing singles. Just a single emerging midge pattern is all. I've been putting it behind a Parachute Adams, for visibility, and 90% of the fish have been eating my KISS Midge Emerger.
