This radio is a great value. The AM is very directional as it should be. To get am stations you rotate 360 degrees to get best signal. You should have known this. Same for all bands. This radio is a must have in my opinion. Simple buttons can be operated by feel once you learn the controls. Always read and keep the manual. The weather alert is awesome. Be safe.
5:47 I doubt it; I imagine Midland has some pretty strict quality control. I only have a WR400 as of now with plans to add an ER310 for Christmas, but Midland appears to make very good radios that perform quite well on the broadcast bands. I only have to touch the antenna on a weak station to be able to bring it in better. It more than likely has to do with the inherent physics of AM, but a cheap tuner can indeed ruin the experience. This is probably unrelated, but take a Muntz TV from the 1950s; because of their very low component count in their circuit design (which is why he was able to sell his TVs for so cheap), those heaps of junk were practically deaf to stations much beyond about 35 miles away from the transmitter, as some of the components that were omitted were responsible for the sensitivity and selectivity of more expensive products from other brands.
Brian 87.7MHZ Check out Tivdio HR-11W. NOAA weather radio built with bluetooth, International FM bands (64 to 108 MHz in 0.1MHz step), 9 kHz / 10 kHz AM spacing 522/520 - 1710 kHz), and 7 Weatherband channels + micro SD cards works up to 32 GB.
No. The telescoping antenna is for the VHF section, allowing reception of FM and NOAA weather radio; AM is received by an internal ferrite bar. This is a very common antenna arrangement in AM/FM radios. Sometimes, the FM antenna may be integrated into a lanyard or wrist strap; cell phones almost universally integrate the FM antenna into the headphone jack, which is why wired pairs are required and wireless headphones don't work: the cord acts as an extension of the antenna.
I'm sure the Solar Panel would takes days of direct sunlight to charge the battery. The Dynamo is for quick power, not to try and charge the battery completely. Best to have a Larger Solar Panel with USB Out to charge the radio if going off the grid for an extended period of time. Also bring/have a Power Bank as well would be ideal.
@@todderbert thanks Todd, have you ever tried to charge it with the crank? I'm assuming it will take a long time to of consistent none stop cracking to give it a good charge right?
I like the radio except I've got a brand new and I can't figure out how to plug the damn battery and it's so small and I have visual issues so I'm going to bring it to a friend who's good at Electronics. Can you weld the plug together probably not I do think if they're going to have it something like that they need to have it usable ready immediately trans no plugging horrible batteries in. But what do I know
They come from the factory unplugged for safety reasons and to protect the cell from being discharged and at low of a state for a long period of time. Lithium batteries are their most stable when 50% charged in storage.
Great review! The AM performance looks to be a little disappointing. The next radio that I plan to buy is to be a emergency radio. I`m trying to decide which one now. A few that you have reviewed are on the list. The Solar Observer, KA 340 and the KA 500 all in my top 5 or 6.. ... There is one that I`m very interested in and can`t find but one video on it. It comes with 4000 mah batteries, a larger than normal solar panel and can be powered from AA`s. It is branded, Running Snail.. There are a couple more brands with different paint jobs, same radio but Running Snail is the cheapest @ $37.00 . Yea, usual hand crank, lights, alarm NOAH charge phone and etc..... I know you like E-Radios and no one else has done a good review on it... I for real want to send You, Two hands and a couple more some help but out of work right now. Fortunately I had disability insurance and food stamp first time in my life. Having surgery on Tue and hopefully things will begin getting back to normal then I can help you fellows out. And I can buy me a couple of radios! Last purchase was off Tom Styles Amazon store and will do same for you fellows... Sorry for the long message on an old video, February. About to look up Brians channel now..
Thanks for the comments ,I know about that running snail radio, but I'm just not sold on it. I read reviews on Amazon that made it less appealing. I hope your surgery gets you back in the game..
Yeah. Same here with the reviews on it but I did notice that the reviews on the other brands rated better and more people had reviewed them. It may not be the same radio Idk. the case and the buttons the same, maybe different inside and 4 or 5 bucks more.. Thanks Todderburt.
I have one on order...I'm hoping this week...may have to try on these bum AM performers. I wonder why Brian 87.7's radio rocks..he says he has the 210 model..I wonder if its upgraded.
