My wife and I have listened to this song many times.Ivan Parker is so gifted and talented! At the end of the day,all the concerns we have seem to fade and we are reminded that earthly cares pass away ...our hope abides in the Midnight Cry.

I sang this song in our choir at West Liberty Christian Church West Liberty Kentucky 41472 it was located at 304 Prestonsburg Street West Liberty Kentucky 41472 but on March 2, 2012 that whole town was destroyed by an EF 3 tornado. That church was flattened like a soda can in a machine. It was scary.......I sing but haven't been singing in a long time... Issues with my throat and lungs.

Nicholas Graham This was an impromptu reunion. Gold City wasn't there for this particular recording. Ivan was a soloist by this time, and Brian and Mike had just formed Brian Free & Assurance. I'm sure that Gold City would have been there had their schedule allowed it. That's why some groups and singers aren't always on the videos. The Kingsmen missed most of the first Homecoming videos that were released. And it was mainly due to scheduling conflicts. That's most likely why Tim Riley wasn't there. But.... George filled in nicely, and he and Tim we're good friends.

Got to admit though...for both Cathedral and Gold City fans, this is a rare Superstar Group Crossover that just doesn't happen very often and is very, very special. Probably the only times such a rare combining such as this would be possible would be at either a Gaither taping or at the National Quartet Convention! I love this video! George and Tim's boys did an awesome job!

The only person that is both member of these super groups is Mark Trammell. This is rare because aside from Mark, this is a rare video that shows Cathedral member singing a Gold City classic.

By the time this was recorded in 1995, all three of these guys had left Gold City. Mike & Brian were a part of Assurance which was only a trio at the time. Ivan had gone solo and done some Gaither Trio stuff. From what I understand, Bill Gaither didn't really know Gold CIty at the time, hence no Tim Riley. And Gold CIty didn't arrive on a Gaither video until the 1997 taping of Singing With the Saints.

These "impromptu reunions" were one of the very special things the early Gaither Homecoming Videos had on them. Quite often Bill would put together members of former groups or past versions of quartets and it was great. He did that with the Masters V on one, the Lefevre Quartet on one, he put together several of the Vocal Band members a time or two and I recall him putting together some of the Speers on occasion. Interestingly, there were several Homecomings where all the former Cathedrals were there and all the former Nelons were there but those were never put together. Bill could have had a forerunner of "Cathedrals Family Reunion" two decades before!. But one thing I love about this video is that I love how Ivan, Mike and Brian noticed here that George realized he was the odd man out on this "Gold City Reunion" and they were so respectful and went out of their way to make sure he felt wanted! The one thing I always wanted Bill to do was to get Gerald Wolfe, Rodney Griffin and (at that time) Jason Waldroup with George Younce and have him turn Greater Vision into a "One Night Only" Quartet! I still say to this day, the reason Greater Vision has never had a bass singer is because after Gerald and Mark had sang with the best (George), they just couldn't see singing with anyone else. I really wish Bill Gaither would do a special "Gold City Quartet" reunion Homecoming Video and bring back all the different Gold City groups to sing with Tim one more time! That would be a great DVD!

I like this performance of Midnight Cry by Gold City. This is from the Homecoming gathering in January of 1994. Ivan Parker's friends, Shawn & Charlotte Obrien wrote Midnight Cry in August of 1993. Ivan had the original copyright and Gold City had permission to record it.

This was recorded in 1986. So this information is not true. The last name of the writers is Day (Greg and another person, can’t remember). And this recording was recorded after all three men left gold city. Ivan was on his own. I know this bc my father worked for Ivan at this time and for 15 years.

Charles Schebner normally sang bass for Gold City, but he was sick the day of this gathering. So Ivan Parker and Bill Gaither decided to allow George Younce to sing the bass. George Younce does a nice job filling in on short notice.
