There is just something so fun about vintage rc. At least for us who grew up with vintage rc. People who only know the new stuff won't get it. I absolutely love my vintage rc's. Almost more than my new stuff.

If you do the the third shock absorber mod and put brace on the chassis between the 2 front shocks, you get way better handling.

Man I love the old Tamiya's. I always build them as is except for adding bearings. Such a blast and always great for laughs and smiles

The gears are actually very stout. I had one of these back in 1988 and never had an issue with the gears.

Buddy, back in the day of the 1st gen, had a hornet. Full bearings, the hi dollar (at that time) tamiya nicad, & he put the 360 PT in it. It was a straight line missle!😁

Really cool truck! I can tell you for a fact that you would have a much better time building Tamiya kits if you knew that there was not one single Phillips screw included in any of the kits. They are JIS, and work much better with JIS screwdrivers. Regular Philips ones will slip and strip.

They're just uncomplicated fun. I get my lunchbox out regularly. Just needs a bit of inspection on the tranmission once in a while, as jumps are not too kind on it (motor comes loose etc.)

It's not a racer, but an ill-handling little wheely machine! I assure you the 27 turn stock motor, and the beefy plastic gears in the transaxle can handle 3s, especially since you installed bearings! The open differential can be locked by using a couple of soft ear plugs, also a ball differential upgrade for their TA02 cars should fit to give a bit more positive traction while still allowing it to turn. (I did this to a Hornet back in the day)

I had one of these when I was about 19. I have the re issue lunchbox now fitted with a lexan body. Let me tell you they may be old design and bit slow, but there really tough(the gearbox is indestructible). I've been mistreating mine for nearly 3 years now and apart from the front wheels and one front suspension bracket nothing has broken.
