This is an amazing song. I love the lyrics and the fact that Gregg Allman wrote most of it in about an hour is also amazing. He was having trouble with the third verse though. It was late at night and he enlisted the help of a "roadie" named Kim Payne. Payne said that Allman kept singing the song over and over and he was getting tired of it. At that point he blurted out "I've gone past the point of caring. Some old bed I'll soon be sharing." So that is how the words and music came together. In the recording studio, Gregg Allman sang the vocal track in one take while the rest of the band was at lunch. Again, amazing.
Frank kills the vocals as usual. Martin plays the cool lead (the acoustic is not nearly as responsive as the electric he usually plays...bends are much tougher and we appreciate him sitting in with us) on his cool 2005 Gibson EC Special. Gordon is "in the pocket" as usual on drums and I am playing rhythm on my sweet 1994 Gibson Hummingbird. We hope you enjoy our version of this Allman classic!
