Midway NHL Open Ice Arcade Machine - Missed Out AGAIN! 

I’m glad you posted this. I can feel the frustration over the situation. I think it’s good for the community to see it’s not always candy and nuts. But you will have this cab.

Open ice is my holy grail machine. I’ve had my original dedicated for about 10 years. I inquired about a different game and after talking with the seller and telling him how I was looking for one he sent me a picture of one on a pallet he had. All it needed was a monitor repair.

As someone who searched intensely for an Open Ice for years, $1,400 for a dedicated cab in fair condition isn't a bad price. I did exactly what you did. I acquired PCBs, artwork, memorabilia, etc. But I get it. I'd still hold out for an original. Keep the faith!

I think you did the right thing. Somewhere out there, a collector is looking for an all original Open Ice cabinet in fair condition and that one will make him happy.

I snagged one of these last summer for $700 CAD. Needed a new ram prom chip and a monitor rebuild. Had to pay a friend $100 to help me drag it out of an old dudes basement. Damn near 400lbs! Artwork is totally faded on one side and minty on the other side. I’ve got it all working and cleaned up perfectly now, I intend to leave it as is. One of my favorite games and will never sell this one! Hope you have one by now!

Dude my heart aches for you. That lady with the NBA Jam cabinet was probably talking with other people and decided to go with someone who said they could pick up right away. That blows she wasn't transparent. Hope you find it sooner rather than later

I had the same thing happen to me on 2 separate cabinets. Had the deal done on messenger, then sold it before I could get there. You will find one. Great video. Keep up the great work.

Fuck man so damn close! I totally feel for you here. All of us know what its like to have something we are after, just to have a chance at it and then its taken away. I've seen it with arcade cabs, cartridge's, systems, pretty much anything collectable. That would be absolutely maddening if it were me, you are better at hiding the rage than I would be. haha. Brother, I hope you find what you are looking for, I know myself and the rest of the community are rooting for you and of course if we see something we will let you know. I wonder how many of those Midway cabs are floating around Las Vegas where I live near? I remember quite a few arcades here inside and outside of casinos... hmm might be worth a poke around. Keep the faith bro, you have a few cabs we are eagerly awaiting upgrades and refurbishments. I am positive you will find this cab in the future, I am willing the universe to provide for you.

I was thinking about buying a blitz pcb and running it in my Astro city. Do you know if it will work or will I need additional boards to run it

Whenever you get that "what's good for you?" question, you basically tell them you'll come today/tomorrow (if you can't get a loaner trailer, go rent a U-haul if need be). Could have been likely that someone else heard wind and offered cash on the spot and to pick it up, could have offered more cash. If she was moving (which she should have told you it had to be picked up before Saturday) it was whoever offered cash on the spot. Even a PayPal deposit isn't any sort of guarantee either these days. Just the unfortunate part of trying to find niche hobby stuff that's not readily available. I've passed on some pinball machines thinking, "I'll just get the next one that goes up" and then never see one posted until a year later. Hope you do end up getting the cab, in either the NBA Jam or dedicated Open Ice. But also, has a consideration been to just build a cabinet from scratch if you're going for a resto-mod? If you've already got the artwork, CPO, PCB. You're a monitor, power supply and wiring harness away from a full cab that would be in minty fresh condition.

The universe has a way of working these things out. I just found a four player dedicated Showtime and it has Blitz 99 also. You switch games by flipping one of the dip switches on the Vegas board. Super cool I thought and I found it on Craigslist….I never search that anymore but thought why not. That cab will show up when you least expect it and it will be glorious! Haha nice video man ✌️❤️

I believe you’re in PA like I actually am, TNT Amusements in Southampton, PA has an NBA JAM TE for sale on their website, price is kind of high though. So does M and P in York, but they don’t have a price listed. How about the Coin Op Warehouse in Hagerstown, MD? Or Wilmington Amusements in Wilmington, DE?

Man, I had a similar experience on eBay a year back buying a Blast City. Talked to the seller a bunch to make sure everything was in order. Sent an offer for the price I was willing to pay. He rejected it, which is fine. Two weeks later he dropped the price to what I was asking. I bought it. Then he told me he already sold it. I had to contact eBay support, which fortunately was really helpful, to get it all backed out. Best of luck finding the cab!

I know sometime down the line you will get an NHL Open Ice cab in near mint condition for a 3 figure sum. And the long wait will be glorious once it's in your hands 🙏🏼

I know lumber isn't as cheap as it used to be but god I wish I could start a company that rereleases Arcade Cabinets or the blueprints to cut out and build your own to solve this exact issue! And would keep people from having to buy and repurpose cabinets that are already finite

You are a good guy and the universe was probably telling you these recent units were sh!t$. That being said, I wish you the best finding the "right" arcade.

Dude, I feel you. I have had machines sold out from under me as well. I actually have a NBA Jam cabinet, but it is STRIPPED. Like it needs pretty much everything.

I found one local for around 2k but when I went to look at it up close is was beat to hell and back it worked but would have to do a ton of work to it... The frustration is real

Had a similar situation happen many years back. Gottlieb Super Mario Bros. pinball machine pops up on CL, so I quickly message the seller...show up the same day with asking price *cash in hand*, look over the machine, tell him "Okay, I'll gladly take it". He comes back to me with "I have a few other people coming to check it out, I'll get back to you". Insert Jackie Chan meme. Obviously, he had started receiving higher offers (likely while I was en route), but damn, that one still stings to this day. No way in hell we'll be touching one of those for less than 2K ever again.

THAT IS SO FRUSTRATING! I'm so sorry, bud. It can get so frustrating when you're searching for a much desired cabinet or part. I've had a Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy elude me 4 times. I have a T2 cabinet that I'm going to restore this Spring, and unfortunately due to MN cold temps the mirror shattered one me. Tracking that part down has been rough. If I see an Open Ice I'll let you know.

I don't collect full size arcade cabinets like you do but I can still feel your pain for the same reasons. The woman handled that situation absolutely horribly, more than likely she found somebody who was just going to pay more for it. In all honesty I wouldn't even try to look for any high-priced games for the rest of the year especially arcade cabinets. People these days are very greedy and they feel that every video game they have is worth gold which is obviously not the case. Just let them sit on their games for a long time and eventually they'll come to their senses and lower prices.

Bummer that neither option worked out for you. NBA Jam conversations have to be more plentiful than an original Open Ice. You’ll eventually get one for sure! I like the case/holder you have for the pcb. Mine just sits in a USPS priority mail box.
