For me, video games are a direct gateway to the past, a real life time machine that can resurrect and allow us to re-experience the youthfulness of days gone by. This channel is dedicated to sharing some of the memorable and not so memorable companies, titles, and hardware that make that possible. I'd love to hear your own thoughts and experiences in the comments, connecting with others as a community is the primary purpose of this channel. Thanks for joining the journey, and welcome to Scarlet Sprites.
8:08 Wait. I'm confused. How do you capture from a multi-slot board exactly? Do you just plug the Big Red Adapter in between the MVS board and its harness? Or does it require an extra harness or adapter?
The Big Red adapter needs to be on there to Jamma-ize the harness (same as if you were plugging in a Jamma game to the Neo Geo harness). The Jamma Extractor is then added to pull video and audio, same as if it were connected to a standard Jamma harness.
I got an untested Captain Commando that has this openkey board already installed under the C board. It will boot to test mode, and when I exit test mode it will just go back to test mode after showing the game's title and number. The test mode dipswitch is off so I'm not sure why it's booting to test. Is there anything different you have to do during the startup sequence once you have this openkey board installed? Congrats on getting Punisher at an affordable price!
I wish I could tell you otherwise, but no, the board behaves as stock once installed. It’s just giving it a usable key to boot and run. The only thing I’d double check is that you’re using the correct key/region on the OpenKey. Aside from that it may just be a board issue.
@@ScarletSprites I picked up a working virtua racing upright. I got I unloaded off the truck at home. Plugged up Now I get a blank screen 🫣. Something has gotten loose or I don’t know where to start. I guess I’ll start at power. That game has so many boards and 2 power supplys. Complicated
I literally just bought one of these, is there any way you could possibly put together a parts list that you used so i can buy the same stuff? :D i'm new to actual arcade hardware for the most part. I'm also missing all the hardware for the PCB. seems the seller removed them all... not sure why so i'm not sure what i need there either.
Most of the parts were already there on the machine. At this point years later, I really don’t know what all extras screws etc. were used. It sounds like your PCB was harvested for parts after possibly failing. My advice is to simply grab a new ST-V board. They’re still one of the cheaper pieces of arcade hardware out there. The Darksoft Dark Knight multi is the latest and greatest multi unit for the board once you get it up and running.
The only thing comparable that I’ve done is feed video directly from the video card to a RetroTink scaler for HDMI output. As far as a cheaper scaler/converter, I don’t know.
The original PlayStation wasn’t able to play VCD compliant discs without this addon. I know that there was a way to encode VCD discs into the PS Movie format and get them to play, but MPEG1 only worked with an addon card.
Yoo scarlet i have a jpac on a real mk4 switcher 6 way.. how would i hook up a kickharess to the jpac? Without hackin up my original cab Running groovymame i wanna be able to go back in forth to real game boards.
Do you mainly play shoot-‘em-ups? The Seimitsu LS-56 isn’t great for fighting games since it’s too stiff. Can you fit an LS-40 in there without having to modify the wires and connections like with a Sanwa?
I'd just get a HDMI adapter even if it's not as good, it's still a very convenient way than use AV cables nowadays. The PS1 HDMI is orange (in color, not the black PS2 HDMI).
before DVD, the 3DO and Phillips CDI get that MPEG 1 earlyier, i got this on my sega Saturn, but the format was niche, it never realy take off in Europe, because it was kind of a lofi digital version of a laserdisc on CD the quality was less good than a VHS but not so bad especialy for adding FMV on game it was premium digital video format before MPEG 2 and DVD came...
Sort of! It needs a backdoor. I actually just had to steal the K7400 monitor chassis out of it this week. I’m going to replace the tube (which has a huge Batman Forever logo burned into it) and put a K7000 in it.
@@ScarletSprites I’m in the process of restoring one now. It’s a lot of game. Just finished laminating the front, two sides, and control panel. Today I did some final paint work on a few spots. Would love to see a video of your progress. They are tough to restore.
@@adrianplaythroughs3514It’s a large machine for sure. It was a real pain getting the rest of the vinyl off of the front of mine. Huge pain really. The side art was practically dry rotted but the front panel was glued and just adhered differently for whatever reason. The guns are a bit of a pain to disassemble and service too. Actually, it’s putting them back together that sucks.
@@ScarletSprites yup, the front was bad. Some of my vinyl was so stuck on the front it tore a little of the wood. After Bondo and sand at 220, surrounding areas started to tear it up too. It was a mess. Threw a lot of Bondo on the front so I ended up laminating it. I don’t know what is with these T2 cabs. It’s nearly impossible to find a really nice one. I feel like operators just let them sit wherever when they stopped working.
There’s tons of room on the inside to run a jammer switcher. how do you handle hooking up for the guns without doing it by hand? it’s going to be a pain ass. Always have to connect them every time you play a different game.
I did end up installing a Jamma switcher. Oddly, the only game it doesn’t work with is Site 4. For the guns, I have each board out to a single DB9. Both guns also go to a single DB9. So if you switch a game you just unplug and then replug. Everything is behind the coin door and accessible from the front of the machine.
Folk's were able to play the MVS ROM on MAME? Even following the protocol of adding the game on hash file, MAME can't recognize the game and while I can play it through command line just typing *mame neogeo xenocrisis* from my frontend, it never works unfortunately.
The official rom pack that you can buy from Bitmap Bureau contains several versions, including one for MAME. There are also files for Darksoft Multi, NeoSD, and MiSTer if I recall.
@@ScarletSprites I know, cause I got that official file, but MAME doesn't recognize it and neither the frontend will allow it to play directly, since MAME didn't get thr game on list after adding it to hash. The game only works through command line and that's really disappointing.
Oh I still have this VCD card for the PSX, and it also function as a GameShark. This is where I used to watch those xxx prated VCD. Prated VCD was the the thing in the Philippines back then. 😂
I was just thinking about that actually. I’ve been consumed with the Midway Skins I’ve been working on. I may get to that overlay at the end of summer though.
I talked about that a little during the Big Blue video where I sold KrautBuster to pay for the machine. I do really appreciate the efforts of the community, especially from the likes of BitMap Bureau. But collecting the newer games that weren’t part of the original lifespan of the system just doesn’t appeal to me in the same way that the OG carts do. I still like playing the new games though, but would prefer a rom for a Flashcart or to own on Steam or Switch.
thank you for the amazing video 🌹. my new mvs 2-slot need alot of work , there is sound but no picture at all , its look like the monitor not turned on ? where to order parts for this amazing neo geo , like "flyback" , i think i need new flyback. thank you so much sir .
You need to know which type of chassis you have. In my case it’s a common K7000. You can grab flybacks from a number of places, but I’d trust arcadepartsandrepair.com since he tests his inventory.
@@ScarletSprites i cannot open the middle wooden board from the back of the cabinet? i just can remove the upper part and the down power supply wooden door, but i can see the sticker on the tube it show " Zenith" is this the chassis ? or the chassis mean the motherboard for the tube ? this cabinet cost me about 900$ and the condition is very very poor, it came with 2 mvs cart , (supersid kick, and the art of fighting) even i don't have the key to open the 2 front door , from where to buy the key by the way ? there is another lock for the marquee i cannot open anything on my poor 900$ big red . i guess its full of coins. i pied this much because i am very far from USA , and this one is the only one in my country and i don't know how it arrived ,it was for about 15 years turned off , sometimes i told myself what i have done ? for 900$ poor cabinet and not working its look like nightmare. i am new to arcade world , there is more arcade there i think they are very rare , one of the them is black and have "fire shark "game jamma when i saw from inside , and another one from atari "Guardians of the Hood " sticker original cabinet . and there is more wooden cabinet " HI-tech " from google they look like urban from late 80s???did you know anything about them are they rare .? how to contact you maybe they are treasure.
The VCD was the worst ever format. It was prone to lots of stutters and audio delays and had worse quality than a VHS. It should've been discontinued the moment DVDs were made available.
I always struggled with people saying it was superior to VHS. Maybe the audio was? Picture quality was often subject to macro blocking from the MPEG-1 compression, even on commercial releases.
Played Virtua Fighter in college and all the releases subsequent to that. Did you ever notice that the picture of Akira below the monitor is that of an arab and not Akira himself? I always thought that was funny.
Yes, I’ve read a few things about that. Most say it was a last minute change to add Akira (as a Ryu lookalike type) into the game but the bezels had already gone to print.
2009 prices. Well done, mate, but like poker, the odds were high. U could have had a 259 doller Frisby. 4/1 odds is quite risky imo. So u really did pay 1000 for it but 750 was intangible.
Hah, that would be interesting. I think there are for sure things I didn’t expect (that I’m still shocked by today), but also things in this video that I don’t ever get credit for 😂.
@@ScarletSprites Yeah i think Arcade1up are doing extremely well, although i would agree with you in many points they improved a lot in the past years. And the most important one is that their machines indeed have a market and pave the way for others as well. (Irarcade, Nova blast, mini cabinets, MVSX etc).
