It’s awesome that ur oldest is doing the history curriculum that didn’t work for the rest of ur family!!! We love sentence diagramming!!! It’s awesome that ur son is finding his grove!!! I’ve found that wen my kids do it’s easier for them from then onwards!!! A level down is ok and it’s awesome that ur son is doing awesome with school because u are able to find where he is!!! I think at 3rd grade they are ready for reading maps and putting places on maps!!! We love the ordinary parents guide to teaching reading!!!

Thanks for watching even though you are past the early years. I love learning from you about what to do with the older years.

The science program with experiments looks like a lot of fun. The Fallacy Detective looks interesting. We have a 5th grader over here, too, and I agree - seeing lots of growth with independence. Word Ladders looks fun! Big IEW fabs in this house.

I used to use some Christian Light Publications for my sons, but they were very word heavy and often times my kids hated the work. I liked some of it though. I think they taught things so well. That and Rod & Staff items I genuinely loved for like English because it covered so many great lessons, but my kids spent too much time in it than they should have (but it challenged them as it should have. . .I stopped using both after third grade though). I did love Christian Light Publications' reading stuff!!! My boys did too. It is very rare I see other people using those, since they are mainly used for Mennonite schools (which is why I used it for homeschooling). That "SpellingYouSee" looks great! Word Ladders looks like fun too. See. . .learning in a fun way is what my boys should have used. Thanks for explaining what you use and what your kids liked or what you even liked or didn't. Have you ever used Alpha Omega Horizons for anything? I loved their math stuff! My kids did too. I loved learning about the Pre-K since that's what I'll be doing for my baby in just a few years! I can't wait! I had so much fun homeschooling that age. Do both you and your husband speak Korean? I think passing on a language you know is the best! I always say how sad I am that my dad didn't teach me French, but his grandfather (who helped raise him), who spoke it fluently didn't teach him enough of it anyway, so I will let it slide. -JusticePirate

Oh my goodness, I’m finally responding. We just moved into our new home. I believe CLE LA and Reading up to 3rd grade is great also. After 3rd grade, there are only 5 light units/workbooks opposed to 10 for Reading. We love the LA and Reading overall but it is not the best for all my kids even though I find so much valuable materials in them. Are you Mennonite? I have totally considered horizons for math when we were first starting out because of the vibrant colors. Glad to hear y’all enjoy it. My husband, who enjoys math, helps out a lot with the math so I let him decide which program to ultimately go with. We love the free resources especially for preschool. There is so much great free resources out there. My husband is Chinese American and unfortunately he’s not great with Korean but would like to learn. It would make it easier for the kids to catch Korean if they heard us speaking to each other for sure. Thank you again for always being here and sharing All your thoughtful thoughts.

@@TheChan7 What generation is your husband Chinese American? Was Mandarin or Cantonese taught to him at all? I knew a woman who was from Germany and married a man from Shanghai, China. He spoke Shanghainese and she German. They taught their children both languages and she learned his. I thought that was wonderful. However, no language was passed down to the next generation. It really is sad how that happens. Do you speak Korean? How old were you when you came to the US? I love these stories. Perhaps you can share them in a video. Yes, I am a Mennonite, but I was not born to a Mennonite family. I am ten years a Mennonite and is it the denomination I feel the closest heart to. I was raised Pentecostal and Christian Missionary Alliance (both Protestant) and went to a Dutch Reformed school for most of my school days. My husband was raised Christian Reformed. -JusticePirate

@@TheMennomilistI can’t believe I’m just seeing this comment. I’m so so sorry. It’s been quite insane transitioning into our new lives. My husband was raised by his grandmother who speaks Cantonese and fukianese (a southern Chinese dialect) so he grew up speaking those. He and I are trying to teach our kids our languages. It’s hard because we don’t speak to each other in any language other than Korean. I was sent to the USA from korea when I was 3 years old. Neat how you took on the Mennonite faith. I think it is beautiful and I love the traditional, down to basics culture about it.

@@TheChan7 Mennonites are Christians, and I have been a Christian since I was a child, it is just that the beliefs of the denomination of the Mennonites align with the Bible the most in my opinion, so that is why I chose to attend a church that was Mennonite. Otherwise, I attended Christian Missionary Alliance beforehand and am a member of both of them, which would be my second choice. That is so cool about your husband growing up knowing Cantonese and Fukianese! I love that you are doing your best to teach languages to your children. I hope all goes well.

@@TheMennomilist I knew mennonites are Christian. I haven’t done much deep research on them but I really should because I love learning more about different denominations and even faiths in order that I may be a better witness myself. I’d love to hear more about how the Mennonite denomination aligns the most with the Bible.

We’re really enjoying it. The experiments are surprisingly really easy to follow. I used to get intimidated about experiments but we’ve had no problems so far with this program.

It’s fun that our oldest girls and then our second boys seem so similar in their likes, dislikes, and abilities :) (other than my boy’s math. He doesn’t like math much…lol)
