I’m more of a Stihl fan ,but I picked up a 266se for 25$ I think it was military surplus from here in Alaska and I got it running put a 24” sugihara bar it and loved it. It’s the ugliest saw I have but I love running it I cut most my firewood with last year. Thanks Iron Horse

No not yet. A friend of mine told me about a guy in New York State that can still get new 372s. So I’m going to check him out. I guess his prices are very good too. I already forgot his name.

My father in law gave me his old 61 that was his dads. I brought my father in law one day up to the camp so could help me clear a deer run. So I brought my ms 250 and he brought his 272xp, he used to be in the logging industry and he made a comment to me as I was cutting down a pretty good sized tree he said that stihl is fighting to get threw that eh? I replied with yeah I need to get a bigger saw. So the next day he calls me and says he has a surprise. Hands me the 61 with a brand new 20' bar and chain and told me it was his father's and he was passing in down to me. He told me I want you to use it like you would you're stihl don't baby it run it through its pases, I've used it a few times has decent power, just watching you're video makes me want to put a 272xp top end on it. Great video!

Not fond of the digital yet as I don’t have the same feel as I get from the dial type! On my clean bench I use my brown and sharp to verify numbers! So far that works!

I got mine running last night going to test it out in a bit...but I'd like to know where you got the plug for the compression release.. I couldn't find 272 carb bolts so I went to local bolt supply they didn't have anything that worked. The compression hole is super fine thread. They didn't have any thing. So I bought what they that was close and retapped both compression and carb holes. It was a fun build

@justinusberger3933
@justinusberger3933 4 года назад
It seems like there aren't any OEM cylinder options for the 271. Your best bet would probably be to find a nice used one on Ebay. Are you 100% sure the cylinder is toast? You can remove aluminum transfer with some 220- 320 grit then finish it with a scotch brite 0447. You just have to be careful not to eat through the nikasil plating. I have successfully salvaged a few cylinders this way. You may need a few tools, I have heard of some people doing it by hand but I personally haven't.
@davidh6975
@davidh6975 4 года назад
Pretty sure. I ran a tank of straight gas through it and took down a large tree. The rings are fused. I can try to clean the head, but the piston and rings are toast. Wasn't sure if there was anything compatible without insane cost.
@justinusberger3933
@justinusberger3933 4 года назад
@@davidh6975 If you can save the cylinder, there are aftermarket options for a piston and rings. HLsupply has a Hyway Piston and rings for under $30. If you go on ebay you could get a Meteor piston and rings for about $35. Both are good options. Meteor is about as close to OEM as you can get, but Hyway is generally decent quality as well. I have used both brands with great success. I am pretty sure Ironhorse uses both as well.

The carb has been giving me lots of issues and ive tried rebuilding it once, but i think the throttle has some shaft play which is causing running issues.
