Today, we talk about the failed reversion/revision of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. 2010 was a dark year for Power Rangers. Disney had lot all hope in the franchise. Power Rangers RPM was the last season of Power Rangers! They just acquired Marvel and didn’t need Power Rangers anymore. Jetix and Toon Disney became Disney XD, no Power Rangers programming was on the network. So what was left? Reairing a 17 year old series on Saturday mornings. This is the story of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the 2010 reversion. As you know, this was the show that started it all. In 2010, it was reaired on ABC Kids with new special effects, comic book text effect, and censored edits from the original version. But is it any good? Why do people not talk about it today? I nearly chocked when he said Power Rangers were considered nearly violent in 1993. Brah, Power Rangers shaped a generation. It aired after school along with The Simpsons. It got a lot of kids inspired to take a martial arts class. Sure there were people who complained, but not to the extent where it tarnished the decade or show. Shows like Beavis and Butthead had parents worried. Or the Pee Wee Herman scandal. The 90s were the best!!!

I still remember the original Fox Kids run having occasional PSA bits on dealing with bullying, the difference between self-defense and unnecessary fighting, etc. That type of stuff actually stuck with me growing up lol

I think it was both MMPR and also the UK Gladiators what came out around the same time what spawned the whole "Don't Try This At Home" slogan. Both shows used this before and after the airings.

Not only that, but Zedd as a character inspired a shitton of complaints from soccer moms regarding his appearance (having visible, pulsing veins is still fucking rad), causing the showrunners to have to dial the costume back a bit.

MMPR remaster is one of the main reasons I'm glad Disney lost the rights to the Power Rangers franchise because if this was a sign that Disney has cleary run out of ideas on what to do with the LP and probably would had killed the franchise if they had kept it.

I think its less they ran out of ideas and more they just didnt see it as worth to make new series financially. Plus Saban got it back and proceeded to make Samurai and Megaforce, with Samurai being a note for note translation of the sentai in places and Megaforce just being nothing but as much Sentai fight footage as they could shove in

I was born in 88, so my first Transformers TV show was the G2 re-run of the original cartoon, and I freakin' loved it! I didn't notice that it was originally an 80's cartoon without those 3D stuff until years later, but that didn't matter for me at all, if it wasn't for the G2 show, I'd haven't understood the Beast Wars references to G1 at the moment. But speaking about the MMPR re-run, yeah, it was very awful, but I'm pretty sure I'd have liked it if I was born sometime before 2010.

Disney didn't "hate" Power Rangers. When something begins to lose money, any company would reconsider the marketability of a property. When something stops generating substantial profit, it only makes sense to reconsider investment into it.

With the small amount of budget Disney had for the rerelease of MMPR, they should of just spent it on converting it to HD and bringing in Austin St John and Walter Emmanuel Jones to finish their ADR voice work they never got to finish. RIP Thuy Trang a.k.a Trini

My Mom watch this episode of this show called the Toys That Made Us and it was the one about Power Rangers. When there this part they mention that parents are complaining that the show is violent. You know what my Mom thought? Those parents that are complaining saying the show is violent are so dumb. That what she thought really.

While I agree that parents complaining about violence in shows is somewhat excessive, they are the ones buying the toys and paying the bills. If your target market is denied access to your product, it's the producer's job to find out why, and adapt to demands of the customer. Clearly, the parents who were anti-violence made a big enough hole in the producer's wallet for their criticism to be heard. While I agree with the sentiments of your mother, she is an anomaly.

@@ryanpursel102 Well, there actually is psychological data that shows that viewed media does influence violence. I'm a college student who studies psychology (the study of the mind) and have direct access to these peer-reviewed studies, I'm not just making this up:) But this also typically correlates with a specific pattern of child raising. Of course with all cases, there are anomalies but in general, viewed media does inspire violence. But It's also the job of the parent to teach a child about violence, which to me is the justification. My own opinion is that if you educate your child about what they are viewing, the decreases the chance of a reproduction of the violent behavior they witness.

The best thing to come out of this was the release of the Legacy Megazord toy. I paid $25 at Walmart for it back in 2010 because, you know, nostalgia. That same toy is now worth QUADRUPLE its original price!

I wasn't aware that this even existed until I discovered it when revisiting the series during the 20th anniversary hype. I may have recalled seeing a glimpse of the toy commercials, though I was all about Phineas and Ferb at that time, especially the 1 hour special at that same year.

Hello, Este. In the end, only the first half of the first season of the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" got remastered. Seattle's KOMO 4 aired the "Power Rangers" between 2002 and 2007 after nine years on the now-Fox O&O KCPQ 13. I thought the remastered version was to be similar ot that of the original "Star Trek" series. Thank you for another great vid and may the Power protect you.

@ThunderDragonRandy I read somewhere that Lost Galaxy was going to use Dairanger footage before Valerie Vernon got sick and they had to come up with the Karome arc to replace her. Edit: looks like that it was a rumor later debunked by the PRLG writer.

@Brad Kreps oh sorry to clarify it still would have been Gingaman mostly but the rumor was that they had planned an arc where they would get the Dairanger suits. I too like PRLG, though I was quite shocked when I saw the Gingaman OP and the forest theme and horses. PRLG was definitely one of the biggest deviations from the original Sentai.

I somehow got through all 32 episodes of it at 9 years old. Keep in mind that I am 21 years old as of May 2nd, 2022. I switched to Super Sentai at age 14 on June 2nd, 2015, it's a lot better than Power Rangers and I never looked back on it. It was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and it was the only way I was watching it at the time besides going to the library and renting them out 5 DVDs at a time for 2 weeks.

I got up at 5 AM and taped/watched the entire MMPR 2010 Reversion as it first aired on ABC Kids. Although its obvious why this will never happen from a financial standpoint, I kind of wish that the MMPR 2010 Reversion would get a complete 32 episode DVD release. Not because its good (because it isn't), but for completeness sake. Its one a few things Power Rangers related currently not available on physical media (aside from Day of the Dumpster, its on a promo DVD bundled with the select items from the MMPR 2010 toy line). It be nice to have it on physical media for historical/archival purposes. Because lets face it. Just because its on Netflix today doesn't mean it will be there tomorrow. Contracts expire and aren't renewed, things get taken down from streaming. Happens all the time.

It was also put on early in the morning because many ABC affiliate stations added weekend morning news. I was in one of the markets in which this happened...and Colorado Springs was a medium market and weekend morning news was entering these market sizes.

Here's the deal: This "season" was nothing more than a holdover for kids so they wouldn't lose interest while Disney assessed what to do with the brand. It's not "bad" because it wasn't made for you. It's literally just a censored version of a show that has almost universal praise. It's actually a pretty substantial business decision. I actually appreciate the fact that they had included some easter-eggs in their censoring for adult watchers including the Japanese text and anime intros. As I'm sure you're aware, Power Rangers is the result of a repurposing of Japanese Super Sentai shows. The Katakana text and Anime parodies are actually very appropriate and kinda funny when you take into account what they were put in there for.

Totally get it, they needed something out there. At the time though, I was a fan of the show, and I also had access to the internet. So at 8 years old, while watching the show, I nearly had the same complaints as most people do today. How the effects took me out of the experience. It just didn't fit for me and how I've seen Power Rangers prior.

@@hiEste Completely fair point. I was 10 around the time, and chances are it would have offset me as well. The thing about corporations, however, is that they have to appeal to the customer rather than the consumer. What is interesting is that while this was arguably the best way for Disney to tackle the economic decline of PR, it clearly failed, and thus they did end up selling the rights. One way or another, the property isn't dead yet, luckily. And it looks to have new life breathed into it, now that Hasbro has acquired it. A rebooted film, and higher quality articulated figures (Including the classic Hasbro's take on the new MMPR Megazord, which I am unbelievably excited for) are all showing signs of new life for the franchise that I'm very much looking forward to.

I loved this season. I was stabbed on my bleeding heart back in 2011 and all I had to do was to think back at this show to remember there are worst fates than death our there. One of them being 2010 Power Rangers ReVersion.

If there was one thing I would’ve wanted to see get cut down in the reversion it’s the Green with Evil episodes. Still include them of course, but in my opinion there was a lot of scenes that just dragged it out. They could have easily cut it down into a three parter in my opinion.

At least you got to watch some of the later seasons of Power Rangers on ABC Kids. RPM and the last few Disney owned PR shows were coming out my broadcaster for that had changed when they started the kid programming by an hour, and instead allowed a 'paid program' to take up that first hour that used to be children's programming. This shifted the noon Power Rangers episodes past that point on the channel's broadcast, putting it back to 'regular adult' programming. I missed out on at least half of the Disney owned Power Rangers until they came on Netflix.

The re-version of mighty Morphin truly was pointless. I would of been happier if Disney just adapted Samurai Sentai as their final Disney era ranger season.

wow there was a mighty morphin' reboot bruh i never even heard about it. Plus the reason why it's not doing so well is because they are targeting the wrong group of people they need to target where the majority true fans are. They need to give to the older crew, give it to netflix and put give it back to the fans
