I'm loving these histamine videos. For me, I get severe anxiety during ovulation and before menstruation. My functional medicine doctor thought high histamine could cause anxiety and panic along with a whole list of problems.
YES! Histamine causes blood-brain barrier permeability so it probably gets itself into the brain. Brain histamine is what makes you awake and too much of it can cause anxiety or panic attacks.
Omg I’m so thankful for your comment ! I have full blown histamine intolerance ( homozygous for DAO mutation). I recently had to take an antibiotic and I know I destroyed my gut flora and also started feeling high levels of anxiety about 14 days before my period is due which is just like you said during ovulation and before period . This makes total sense . I was also eating too many high histamine foods and took an anxiety medication out of desperation bc I never get severe anxiety. I knew already it was a class of drug that would interfere w HI but I was desperate so I only took one . Surely it exacerbated everything. I’m researching Vulvodynia right now and am seeing there’s a connection w HI and mast cell production as well. Which I have been recently struggling with . Being a woman w DAO is so hard !
Chris Masterjohn, PhD yes ! I keep waking up at night unable to sleep and having heart palps / anxiety . This is all coming together to make so much sense and help me understand. I went to ER for the crazy anxiety and they gave me anxiety meds witch I know deplete DAO and block histamine . 😫
Great video Chris! I also appreciate very much your focus on histamine as I think it underlined many health issues for many people. In retrospective, the situation you described was exactly mine since puberty. I'm now menopausing and histamine is still my biggest health issue. I'm wondering if I should have my estrogen level checked... Thanks again!
Super interesting! I have “Rosacea” which includes redness, flushing, itching, stinging, broken blood vessels and irritated spots. These symptoms are definitely worse in the week/few days leading up to my period. I also sometimes get bad anxiety symptoms the week/few days leading up to my period. Often with extreme insomnia. I tried a low histamine diet for a while which seemed to help but I couldn’t maintain it for too long as I was becoming nutrient deficient. Are there any side effects to be aware of with DAO enzymes? I’ve also read Vit C supplement is good for histamine intolerance. Any advice on this and dosage? Thanks for an amazing informative video ☺️
Hi Chris. What about menopause? When I went into menopause I went from having migraines near my period to all the time. Suddenly all kinds of foods were causing headaches all the time not just a few days a months before periods (which I didn’t have anymore) I’m thinking that basically a permanent situation of higher estrogen and low progesterone happened. I’m a curvy gal, not huge but I am large breasted and have a small waist but round butt and thighs. I have I’m sure ample body fat to produce estrogen and don’t have low estrogen symptoms like vaginsl dryness etc but I do have relatively low progesterone based on symptoms and the fact that that drops precipitously before estrogen drops. I think this explains what has been happening with the histamine overload symptoms I started experiencing around the time of menopause. Do you have any input or tips about this?
I had an aura migraine 5 days before my period was suppose to start. I ended up not having this period!! I’m so sick of these irregular periods and migraines.
Thanks !!! For me its hives and headaches , migraine everytime i eat ! Its so depressive! Everything i eat i have reaction to it! And there is not a lot of doctor out there like u that found the connection between histamine and estrogen! So i have to get pregnant to feel good? 🤔😫
I get really red when i eat potatoes would that be the niacin in it (same feeling as the capsules) or is that histamine? Its like being flooded with heat
