There are multiple sources that contribute to the level of histamine in your body (or your histamine pool), while there are 2 enzymes that help your body clear it. In this video, I talk about the things you can do short term to overcome histamine intolerance and how to get a long-term lasting solution, without depending on antihistamine medications.
Antihistamine medications are not recommended for long-term use. Watch minute 9:21 for details.

Spot on!! I've been asking my doctor for YEARS! -He hasn't a clue. But does he network with the other doctors in his group, consult the internet, or do some research? Can you say, "Hell NO!" I get symptoms around that time of the month. (I'm sure you really wanted to know that.) I've asked and asked, "Why do my "allergies" go nuts before my period? Dr. Know-Nothing: "I can't really explain it." (In other words, "I haven't got a friggin' clue!") One day, I notice "Chlorpheniramine" (an antihistamine), as one of the ingredients in my "Menstrual Relief Tablets." So, I ask my doctor, "Why do these contain chlorpheniramine?" Dr: Know Nothing, "Because as your hormones shift around "that time", a lot of women become more sensitive to histamine." * PS: Everything I know about histamine intolerance, I've learned by researching it myself. -You're so right about having to take our own responsibility.

Thank you so much for your wonderful video. I think I now understand why I’ve developed histamine intolerance. I’ve had chronic UTIs for years and have been in a myriad of antibiotics. The longest I’ve gone without them is 5 months. I was heartbroken when I developed another UTI a few weeks ago. I’ve been on the diet since October and it has helped but I’d love to eat some of the high histamine foods again. Seems like I’m not going to be able to overcome the histamine problem until the UTI infections end but there seems to be no solution to that. Very discouraged!!

Try D Mannose for the UTI - I went through same thing yrs ago for 2 yrs having kidney infections taking useless antibiotics which I would never normally take - that’s actually when I started to get diagnosed w fibromyalgia and low or no DAO…. Anyway the allopathic route was to take antibiotics prophylactically which I refused and researched that d mannose was more effective - bought a mountain load expecting to have to take daily but actually never had another kidney infection! First sense of something take d mannose and it’s gone - but it’s cheap and big pharma can’t make money off larch sugar! Good luck, never get disheartened - get curious - there’s solutions always -often not through trad medicine though

Persistent use of antihistamines suppresses the guts' production of hydrochloric acid, which is the last thing you want for gut health. Food not well broken down leads to dismotility, inflammation, and possible leaky gut syndrome. Then, when you stop taking the antihistamines, the gut ramps up the hydrochloric acid again which generally leads to overproduction and dyspepsia, i.e; heartburn.

@@NonyaSmith OMG why does no doctor ever explain all this? Either they're unaware or intentionally don't want to help 😢😢
@lorenrealname1326
@lorenrealname1326 2 дня назад
@@sagartripti I'm sure NonyaSmith and others here could teach me several things, but I've been using a small amount of liquid diphenhydramine (less than a pediatric dose) to temporarily increase control of chest and respiratory symptoms, and for topical reduction of throat symptoms, sometimes a few times a day. Thankfully I have "good days" when I don't use any at all. I sure didn't get there overnight, for better or worse. I often balance this with some challenges of my ability to tolerate histamine liberating compounds such as (extremely low dose, e.g. {unsweetened} USA tonic water) quinine. It doesn't hit me as hard as a large (e.g. pure-ish) chocolate bar or large can of beans -- canned beans are rough with me, sprouted are much much more tolerable. (I'm searching for comments I've left today because I'm trying to reply to a notification I clicked away from in a drop-down menu, and there are so many new comments now!) Expert advice should be more available and accessible. I think patient support communities are essential, in part because the studies we eventually hear about often study US! ... so I should mention that YRMV, and good luck. I've also heard that antihistamines, certainly including benadryl (which is in my words "thorough," in that it "crosses the blood-brain barrier," as I've heard it explained), can block HMNT, which is of course the intracellular counterpart of diamine oxidase, our histamine enzymes (AFAIK, and my education on these topics is notably informal, but this may have been covered in the video we're commenting on). And of course, blocking HMNT is not ideal for resolving HIT symptoms.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS)(a type of hypermobility) often comes with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and that itself often comes with Histamine Intolerance, sometimes Salicylate Intolerance, and, oxalate overloading I think. The most common form of EDS is called 'hypermobile EDS' or hEDS. Another thing it often comes with is POTS and most people with EDS and MCAS or HI have POTS. And histamine etc. symptomology can be different because of amplification of the effects of things like vasodilation or sympathetic nervous system dominance that happen to come with POTS. - Anyone out there with HI should see if they have hypermobility of any type. Do you have long fingers relative to your height and palm area, long thin limbs, thin wrists of which you might be able to touch your pinky to your thumb or even cover the nail of the pinky, tall height, can pull your fingers back behind 90º backwards or close to that, cracking joints, soreness especially at joints and ligaments and tendons, stiff muscles, loose joints, etc.

This is me as well (h-eds, MCAS/HI, DAO def, MTHFR gene, etc.). I have spent years trying to get doctors to listen to me. Done all the test. None wanted to believe me. I have had to become my own doctor. The big thing about all of this is that we can treat most of it ourselves. I am so glad for that because if I had to rely on a doctor to help me....well, I don't want to imagine. I take methylated B12 and Methylfolate, 1000mg of Vit C, copper, zinc, magnesium,etc... all the things she mentioned in her video. I am also about two months in of taking S. Bouldarii. I have upped my fiber and am going to start working on some resistant starches. There is more, but I don't want to write a novel. I also try to practice the 5 pillars of heal. There is no cure for some of the things we have, but I am doing my best to try and live my best. Especailly after C o Vi D.
@necroticpoison
@necroticpoison 2 месяца назад
@@mumsthwd C, D3 etc. seem to be very underrated. Another that my dietitian has put on the same level as C and D3 is Omega 3. Canola oil is good tho many with HI area already using it - but just taking the supplements can be a good way to go. Takes a couple/few months to kick in I think. Methylated B12is super good too, even for those that don't know if they have the malabsorption(no methylation). B complex might be good too, as B5 and B6 (maybe B1 as well) are involved in the DAO pathways but I don't know how that fits into a DAO def. context. Iron too--many EDS are deficient in it and it's essential for many processes including, importantly, oxygen transport (oxygen transport I suspect is probably involved in fatigue/brain fog etc.) due to lack of blood - and so, oxygen - to the brain. Not sure tho. Keep up the good work👍

@@mumsthwd I'd read that novel. Good call on prebiotics, I'm looking into sprouting everything I can and especially legumes. Thymoquinone (like from nigella sativa, black caraway) is an alternative to quercetin, not that anyone asked. I'm getting copper from oysters and using zinc gluconate powder since I react poorly to many supplements (and still can't tolerate alfalfa or Brazil nuts). Lots of greens and fibers. Two years ago, NaturDAO got me "out of the forest" along with all the other stuff, now I can plan in chocolate, quinine, a little mustard, lots of useful stuff. I use a little liquid diphenhydramine, and substantial amounts of turmeric, ginger, and more. I've had histamine intolerance for years. I learned more about it in this 12 min video than I have with anything else! I've already tried a number of things you mentioned, but my big AH-HA is that the steroid inhaler I use for asthma is blocking DAO. I recently discovered it is causing ALL my health issues,. I learned that it causes dysbiosis, which is related to histamine intolerance, but I didn't know it was also blocking DAO. I will now work towards getting off that medication. Doctors do not look for the root causes. We need people like you. Thank you!
@TDS.Harper
@TDS.Harper 24 дня назад
No, they don't. Most modern doctors are only taught to treat the symptom. Throw a pill at it. Heckers, throw a whole bottle of pills at it. Doesn't fix it. Seriously; go into a doctor's office. Mention a disease. Any disease/chronic condition. They probably can name at least 3 pills for it, but NOT an actual remedy!
@TDS.Harper
@TDS.Harper 24 дня назад
P.S. Do you use non-stick cook ware? -I used to. And I was diagnosed with "Asthma" and put on a daily inhaler. A friend of mine loves birds, and has quite a few. But she can't have non-stick cook ware, as the off-gassing kills the canaries. Then I got to thinking: If a little tiny canary's lungs fail due to this, what is it doing to MY lungs? I've been off the non-stick cookware, and the inhaler for more than 10 years now. And no more raspy voice. Very very seldom an asthma attack. And back when I used the regular inhaler, I could only get to 325 on the spirometer. Now I do better than 750 regularly!

100% environmental toxicity will stimulate mast cells which release lots of histamine and other immune mediators, leading to all of these symptoms. I'm finding mold toxicity to be common with my patients with histamine and mast cell activation issues, and asthma can be triggered by mold.

I recently asked my allergy/asthma doctor why I've been on 2 rounds of allergy shots and on so much medication and still struggling. I showed her pictures of swollen eyes and rashes I get. I've done all the things I'm 12:42 supposed to do to make my home as allergy free as possible but until I take a zyrtec every morning I'm a mess. She tested for histamines and they were very high. She wanted to do a patch test but she's over an hour away from me and I have to go there 3 times in a week. Since retirement this year I'm not around mold that was a biggie for me and I'm doing better. A few months ago I was having a loud beating in my left ear. I had complained that my nose on the left side always felt like there was something stuffed in there and that in the morning I'd notice there was something that looked like something very swollen. The pounding was getting worse so I went to another doctor who put me on 2 different nose sprays and the pounding went away within 2 days. Also found that with stomach problems all my life the solution was to stop using mint toothpaste. I use cinnamon toothpaste and no more stomach issues after 30 some years.

So good to know that being on antihistamines long term can actually make things worse. This is the first time I have heard this, soooo... I need to make a change. I have been on the low histamine diet for 6+ months but still dealing with itching, and tingling in my legs, bouts of GI distress etc. I suspect I have always been a low DAO producer, but my doc does not even think to investigate these areas. He just writes me off as having chronic fatigue and offers no treatment or referral to a specialist to look into potential GI issues.

I wondered if I was histamine intolerant years ago and focused on reducing proteins that were aged, fermented foods, and being careful of when I ate histamine releasing foods. I believe I have had SIBO for a long time. The western medical system won't test me for SIBO but gave me drugs for it when they didn't know for sure if I had it. I fired the Gastroenterologist for continuously gate keeping the functional testing I needed. I did my own research and although meat has the potential for having lots of histamines I have had no real histamine issues since going off plants and carbs. I believe that I have begun to heal the SIBO among other things since 4 months on the Carnivore diet. I will do this elimination diet for at least 6 months to get rid of SIBO, lose excess weight, and get rid of the painful oxalates in my joints. Then I will try to add back low histamine/low oxalate foods to see if they bring symptoms back. I will stay away from grains and sugars for good. My body cannot handle those at all.

Low antioxidant levels can affect your immune system’s response to triggers and worsen histamine intolerance Taking liposomal glutathione can help, in addition to eating a diet rich in antioxidants. Hi Nour Zibdeh: Thank you for this video. I am contacting you on behalf of my wife (73 year old Filipina) otherwise in good health except for recently-acquired Histamine Intolerance. Her diet for life has basically been vegetables, rice, with occasional shrimp or pork (common in the Philippines). When we eat out, sometimes we get spicy Indian food, which we love. We vacation regularly in Hawaii, and recently in Mexico to get some more sunshine. We live in Vancouver BC Canada and are thus starved of sunshine. We take supplements like Vitamin C, D, E, A, B-Complex and other good supplements like zinc, turmeric, kelp, etc. Occasionally during the spring-time, she may get 1 week of hay fever from the pollen in the air, which goes away quickly with diphenhydramine hydrochloride tablets for a few days. With our most recent vacation to Mexico, something must have happened, but we have not been able to figure it out. The all-inclusive resort had good food and clean water, from which we had no immediate symptoms. However, 5 days after being back in Vancouver in early August 2023, we sat in the sunshine for 15 minutes on the outside deck. After going inside and a couple of minutes later, she broke out in Hives that apparently were triggered by the sunshine. I was not affected. She has nice brown skin and has lived half of her life in the Philippines and half in Vancouver. We did further tests and determined that UVB would always trigger the same histamine response and hives. We have cut out different foods searching for the root cause, and cannot find a correlation between any particular food and the histamine-related hives. She is now taking histDAO supplements but they have not fixed the problem. I am thinking that she may have acquired some gut bacteria from the pork in Mexico, which is a good reason to avoid pork as I do. We want to fix this and get back to the way she was before our Mexico vacation. The other possibility is some reaction from the Mesenchymal Stem Cell treatment that she received from a clinic in Mexico, but this was her second treatment for her knee joints. Her first Stem Cell treatment from the same clinic was one year ago, and there were no problems at all. I don't think that her problem is diet related, except that something we did in Mexico has created this histamine intolerance, like a gut bacteria. I am an Engineer, so I am driven to find and fix the root cause directly and not simply cover up the condition. Do you think you can help and if so, how do we proceed? Please contact me at GarryAnderson@shaw.ca so we can work together. Thank you.
@rrcmjp22

It actually sounds like a delayed hypersensitivity response to the stem cell treatment with photosensitivity. Allergic responses take time to develop which is why she didn’t have a reaction the first time.

@@rrcmjp22 Hi Marlena: Thank you for your suggestion. At the moment, I am thinking it might be parasites in the gut, from eating pork in Mexico. We are trying Ivermectin for a few weeks to see if that has any effect. If that does not work, then I will pursue your suggestion.
@NourZibdeh

Hi ... sorry to hear that. I think it's difficult to guess what it is without proper testing. The immune system may have gone haywire due to parasite or other microbes (virus, bacteria, etc), or exposure to environmental toxins. The sun and heat can trigger histamine. Gut microbiome imbalances interfere with histamine clearance. Often, you have to address multiple things at the same time to truly notice an improvement. If you'd like further assistance, you can book an assessment and strategy session here: nourzibdeh.com/getstarted/

The body is extremely complex and there is an intricate balance which is maintained by your body. When you take one supplement, it causes depletion of a different one and side effects follow. You should not take any supplements and eat the actual food which is rich in those nutrients. Alternatively you can take beef liver/organ pills if you can't eat the actual organs. But don't take supplements. I am talking from experience. You will end up with nasty side effects which won't show up right away. It will take months or years to affect your health negatively. For tens of thousands of years humans took no supplements or isolated vitamins. They ate the actual food which contained those vitamins. The supplement industry wants you to believe that you can take a short cut and just take a few vitamins with no long term side effects. Their goal is to make money. They don't care about your health. Another thing that will help you recover quickly is intermittent fasting which has been done for thousands of years by various cultures. It is extremely beneficial for your health. It can clear up many health issues with zero cost.

@@TheManGrant yall should try prolonged fasting. Look up autophagy, its bad ass. I accidentally stumbled on it because I did a prolonged dry fast for spiritual renewal, lost a lot of muscle the first 2 times I did a 3 day dry fast, but by the 3rd and 4th time, sth UNUSUAL was going on in my body. Lets just say my body hit a new rock bottom and began to heal itself. I have typed lengthy pages explaining this to people but I'll advise you to look it up. Now I fast for prolonged periods- no food, no water, no shower, no brush and no contact with water. Usually for me after the 3rd day, everything seems broken off and broken down, I did 4 days once, hard dry fast, by the end of day 4 everything in my mouth felt dead. When I brushed, I believe I saw stuff like plaques coming off, my oral health has never been so good. Belly pouch gone, muscles more resilient, a little weight lifting gives me results of someone whos been in the gym for months, I lose fat but retain muscles, hormones balanced themselves out, hair growing suddenly, I can go on and on. The reset I got from the last 2 prolonged fasts have made me want to eat better. Autophagy is a real reset. Also as someone else mentioned, please for your own sake THROW OUT THE SUPPLEMENTS. Before you actually find a really good one, chances are you've suffocated yourself with more poison. Its just a revolving door and problems are released much later to create confusion and make you blame the wrong things. The industries behind these things dont give a rats ass about your health. Look into fasting first, chances are that reset will clear out an unbelievable percentage of that sudden reaction. Also if you're Christian, don't forget to call Jesus to help you. You don't lose nothing by praying, worst case scenario, He doesn't answer. And it takes nothing from you. But if He answers, ohhh booyyy, you're about to get brand new organs. ❤❤

After eliminating dairy and gluten as best I could I saw an improvement by my late 30s. But still couldn’t get to the bottom of it (lol) then in my 50’s a new Dr said I had fibromyalgia. An utterly useless diagnosis but she was the nearest to my symptoms and it did point me in one of several directions. One of which is histamine intolerance and only now, do I have a very qualified chiropractor ( one of many) and a dietician who are working together to help me with HI. If it wasn’t for my Chiropractor I think I’d be in a wheel chair more often than not. She’s well trained and has to understand the whole body system not just how to manipulate my spine back into the right position. Understanding why my spine sticks in the wrong place is part of the treatment, and we are treating HI. If you see my blood slides and the clumping of blood cells in different sizes it becomes clear why too. Lack of oxygen transference from sick blood cells can’t help. B12 deficiency evident in large blood cells. Stress clumping

Very good information. In fact, I started having trouble about eight years ago. The itching cleared up on its own. Fast forward ⏩..this year, around late March into April the itching and hives made an appearance. Then it dawned on me. I had done some homework on the subject the eight years prior. This time I revisited any and everything I could find on histamine issues. Everything you’ve said in the video, most of it I found in the homework I had done. I’m still learning, trying to follow a low histamine diet, found a DAO supplement, and last, I take a quercetin supplement as well. Presently both are working for me. I’m not out if the woods. I did see my doctor who diagnosed me with urticaria. I have yet to see an allergist. Also, I’ve heard histamine intolerance is difficult to test because the results could come back as false-positive. Just sayin’.

@@houserdiane it’s not a simple or easy health condition and so many things contribute to histamine overload and different ways mast cells can react. I hope this video was helpful in your research journey

Excellent video but way too much information in order to tackle this problem. Like you said, if you have say SIBO, that a huge challenge on its own, and everything else is just an added complication. For someone that has SIBO (me) I don’t bother correcting my diet because I’m going to have problems anyway. You have to do first find out why you have SIBO, correct that first, then take the appropriate meds to eradicate the SIBO, and correct the diet at the same time. If you don’t know the cause of the SIBO, it will come back, and the histamine intolerance will be a problem again unless it’s a different cause, in which case the histamine intolerance will always be a problem. It’s rough being alive now 😅

you're right. I never try to address ALL of these with my clients/patients. We tackle on thing at a time, but sometimes we can or have to do a couple of things like SIBO and parasites, or SIBO with dysbiosis... just depends on the person's symptoms and how much they can handle at a time. And you're right looking for underlying root causes for SIBO. Many people including GI providers don't even do that. Best wishes!

Thank you Doctor for an informative video. I used to get repetitive sneezing, nose block, watery eyes quite often. My mom has same issues, so it's in my DNA. I did allergy test and nothing came out. Finally, I gave up gluten, diary and sugar beginning this year and I am much better of. I observed that diary is the biggest culprit in my case. If I eat diary 2-3 times a week, I get this symptoms. What would you recommend if I happen to eat diary in a week to avoid this symptoms? Should I take a DAO supplement? Could you please give the names of few DAO supplements? Please advise. Thank you

DAO can help if you’re going to eat dairy high in histamine like cheddar cheese or yogurt, but it won’t help if you have a dairy allergy or sensitivity to milk for example since milk doesn’t have histamine anyways. Seeking Health makes a DAO enzyme products. It’s not a very common supplement

I have peas growing in my garden right now. So I'm guessing the leaves will be fine to eat. I will definitely grow more. Right now, I'm drinking stinging nettle tea every night. Plus, I cleaned up my diet. I have the MTHFR gene, both copies. My body does not get rid of toxins, so gut issues are a huge problem. Thank you for this video. Most of my symptoms are gone, but I am still left with inflammation, so not completely. I am doing an all-out investigation.

Miss Zibdeh, I been suffering from histamine intolerance since last december 2022. But history of histamine intolerence dates back to 2020. All these episodes started right after I recieved my covid vaccinations. First time was in 2020 and the syptoms were worse back then. Now the syptoms are manageable, but still annoying. I am taking DAO supplements and a probiotic from a company called viome, they take a sample of your stool and come up with a probiotic that is similar to your genetic gut DNA. I have been taking these probiotics since May and still no positive affects have been established yet. I believe when they tested for other syptoms they did not test for other factors that they could have taken into consideration, Like SIBO, etc. I am really frustrated about going through these episodes every 2-3 days and tired of taking Hydroxyzine. Can you find a solution to get me out of this mess? Really need help, Thanks Edgardo

There is a condition called Mast cells activation syndrome. There are many things that can activate mast cells like mold, heat etc. (this means histamine is released). Also many people with long covid have histamine intolerance. Maybe because of microclots that trigger massive histamine release in the body. Black seed oil is great to reduce microclots.

histamine and other inflammatory chemicals can get released from immune cells as a result of many things that include bacteria, yeast (candida), viruses, mold, parasites, food sensitivities, environmental triggers, and other things like heat and the sun. There's a way out of the mess. I've worked with many people and we have to take it a step by step, fully and properly address the food (using food sensitivity testing on top of low histamine diet) and properly test. I'm not a big fan of viome testing and I find that many medical professional share my opinion. They don't go into the same depth that other companies do. You seem like a good candidate for my program. If you'd like to discuss further, please book a session here: nourzibdeh.com/getstarted/
