A business deal went south between the city of Seattle and a motel operator in Kent where migrant families have been staying, and on Friday, May 10, they packed up and headed to other motels in SeaTac.
Seattle committed to pay the room fees through the end of June for 144 people, many of whom are children, who recently entered the country and have few options as they await work permits and other documents. Many of them had been camping at Powell Barnett Park in Seattle, but rooms were found for them in Kent at the Quality Inn.
On May 10, those families were packing up and loading into vans after Seattle and the general manager were unable to agree on contract terms for the stay.
