These slavery conditions also exist for Canadian citizens who work in skilled trades. NEVER WORK FOR A NON-UNION COMPANY IN CANADA!!! You will be exploited..

If they're given more money for housing (more often than not) it will only mean that much more money will be going to their families in the countries they came from... Accepting these and other money will most likely only make their presence useless to the farmers because they might as well hire documented Americans at minimum wage to do the work... MINIMUM WAGE PLUS HOUSING IS PRETTY TEMPTING FOR ANYONE THATS STRUGGLING...

They don't get minimum wage plus housing... they deduct from their pay for that housing. Along with many other "deductions". And they get no say in where they live, or even if they are allowed off of their employers property. They have to pay rent to whoever their boss tells them to, and surprise... it is usually them. They might "only" pay 400-500 a month, but they share a toilet with 20 people and live in moldy rat infested shacks. That is ignoring them getting beaten, having their belongings destroyed as "punishment" for not working quickly enough, the confiscation of passports by their "bosses" and so on. I don't want slaves in Canada.

It does not matter to them how much money they make or are given, IT WILL STILL ALL BE SENT TO BACK TO THEIR FAMILIES IN THE COUNTRY'S THEY CAME FROM. EVEN THE TERRIBLE CONDITIONS THEY'RE IN HERE , MANY OF THEM HAVE COME FROM SIMILAR IR WIRSE CONDITIONS THEIR FAMILIES ARE LIVING IN... IF 2 OR 3 OF THEM WANTED TO; THEY COULD GET A SMALL APARTMENT AND LIVE IN BETTER CONDITIONS...

They have to live where their employer tells them to, and they have to pay whatever rent they are made to. These employers are monsters. They take their passports as soon as they show up, and tell them they are to remain confined to the property. They don't have rights. I don't care who you are, it is wrong to make a group of 50-60 year old women work for 80-90 days without a single day off, 12-16 hours a day, then deporting them when they get sick from it, which happens. These are not wealthy people. They already paid for the travel and can't just walk away. And no, these are not the conditions people live in in Jamaica. They are here because of the exchange rate between our money and theirs.

Well maybe they should’ve stayed home and started their own farm and work for themselves! And see how hard it is. Can they do anything else? Maybe they should’ve studied hard and gotten a degree in legal work so that everybody works forever

"Well maybe" you should delve deep and do some self reflection in order to discover why you lack empathy and compassion for other human beings.

They are lied to about the pay and conditions. They are having their passports confiscated by their "bosses" and made to pay back a significant portion of their minimum wage. These farmers are such failures they can't pay people to work on it without government sponsored half-slaves?
