The best time of year to see humpbacks in Bermuda (or to go whale-watching in general) is from February to April. Whales can be seen from numerous locations on the southernmost side of Bermuda such as: atop South Shore Road or anywhere between Warwick Long Bay and Church Bay. Also, you can see them from other locations around the Devil's Isle like off of: St. David’s Head, Cooper’s Island, Portuguese Rock at Spittal Pond, and if you are in the mood to venture out, there are also numerous boat trips available seasonally. In this video we accompany Captain Fox aboard the Looking Glass and set sail out of Hamilton Harbor (Day 1) and Dockyard (Day 2). The tours go from 10 AM to 3 PM, drinks are available on board (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), in addition to a multitude of seats on top and under the ship. Also, this is a glass bottom boat so it has the capabilities for you to look under the belly of the ship into the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. Bermuda has some of the best water visibility in the world so trust me when I say you can easy see the coral reef and teeming animal life under the ship. Whales like humpbacks love to travel from "calving grounds" in the Caribbean during this time of year to summer feeding areas around Canada, The United States, Iceland, and Greenland. They can grow up to 60 feet in length, but the worlds biggest humpback whale was actually 89 feet! They have a two-part blowhole that resembles the nostrils of a human nose and fun fact, Bermuda's population (64,000) is actually less than all humpback whales world wide (84,000). In this video we encounter over 5 humpback whales including (I think) a baby humpback whale. Baby humpback whales are nursed and fed milk from their mothers which can be up to 120 gallons of milk a day. Sheesh!!
Humpback whales are protected in Bermuda by law.
