Mihail Jora is right up there with Enescu in my opinion as one of Romania's elite composers. His music is hard to find in public performance these days despite the fact his composition teacher, Max Reger, makes the odd appearance. I think I read somewhere that Jora had his disagreements with the authorities of the day that probably didn't help his cause for international exposure.
Yes, he was an independent mind; and at least he is remembered in Romania as a musical founding father. The concert hall of Romanian National Radio is named after him.
