People need to stop associating "colorful" designs with "good" designs. Because they never always go hand in hand. They need to realize the lack of color in Kuro's games is deliberate art direction.

Me too. It looks more appropriate for the atmosphere of game. It would be strange if charters during the war-time wore colored clothes. Genshin's clothes look appropriate in genshin, because the whole picture is bright and multi-coloured. I can't imagine characters of Kuro games wear such a type of clothes in their environment.
One thing I notice from PGR's design is that they go all out on texture and shapes of the characters to compensate the lack of color variety. They have very diverse shapes and sizes that when you look at a glimpse, you can immediately recognize which character is which.

What people fail to realize is that Kuro opts to go for the "practical" or "tactical" look when it comes to designing their characters. As such, you wont find much unecessary things in their outfits unlike the way Hoyo decides to design their characters. At the end of the day, it all comes to personal preference but to say, one is better than the other is just wrong.
Watanabe Epitaph, Bianca Alter, Lee Hyperreal, and Crimson Weave literally beat whatever hoyo put out. Just look into Blanc’s playthrough of these characters.

While I do not think any game is immune to criticism, their arguments and criticism tend to be done in bad faith that you can’t have a proper conversation with some of them about the game and its world/gameplay/characters. They have already decided that they should hate the game because only their precious billion dollar company can make great games that give them 3 wishes on CNY and thinks they need Paimon to narrate the story again and again for them to understand.
I think a lot of people mistake design for color palette which isn't the same thing. I also find that Hoyo designs are normally very busy which just isn't for me personally. To say WuWa designs are "bland" when you are praising Mihoyo is weird though. Mostly because Hoyo tends to reuse characters models and just layer over them and with PGR no two characters share a character model

Keep it in mind that Kuro is 3 years younger than Mihoyo- Kuro was founded in 2014. Mihoyo in 2011. It's impressive that Kuro a company THREE years younger than Genshin was able to beat them in their sales, lmao.

As a Genshin player, i like designs on my fav characters and stuff. At the same time i like different vibes of design (example now Wuwa) . I don’t get why especially Hoyo fans have a need to say such bullshits on everything that is not a Hoyo game. Like a fck Kids on the playground. I play Genshin and i can enjoy and appreciate other games , not only Genshin. Not a big deal. (I’m saying this just to show that not every Hoyo game enjoyer is like a fck crybaby whenever new game shows up) I feel dissapointed from the Hoyo fans how absurd their behaviour is at this point.

I could be wrong but I feel like they're taking notes from KURO, they even restarted updating HI3 and one of the new characters has dark Karen moveset, HSR got alpha like character, and GI with black and white character as you mentioned.
KURO is gonna be their future competitor, but with genshin and HSR owning the top 1 & 2 ranks when it comes to the sales almost all of the time, Kuro's journey in taking the top spots would be a uphill battle.

To me, both Kuro and Hoyo's designs are good, but Hoyo has more colourful designs that matches the more vibrant aesthetic of their world. PGR's world is already pretty bleak, and I think the characters fit very well in it, with splashes of colour that helps them stand out.
Only ever seen glimpses of PGR, and playing Star Rail since a few weeks very randomly... I like both looks and desgins. Might pick up PGR/finally look at it...
Genshin - Traditional Fantasy WuWa/HSR - Sci-fi Fantasy Both does it's own thing and is great in what they're trying to accomplish. Why are people comparing them like it's a contest? It's like comparing LoTR's design against Star Wars. lol
I like both designs honestly, I just really wish mihoyo didn't always go for the same base models for all characters, it's what I think really brings down their character designs. Proof of this for me has got to be Gallagher from HSR. From his wide upper body to the little bit of facial hair and eyebags, it really makes me happy that they do actually wanna try making more unique body types for their characters, compared to how they butchered Itto. Despite this though, I still wish they would go even farther. Svarog was such wasted potential by having him be attached to Clara as a character, but I guess it makes sense considering their story. And to a lesser extent: Sam. While I absolutely love both character designs associated with him, I really wish Sam was just a "cool dude in fiery armor" instead of what we got.
Looks are Subjective. What counts more if the Characters are fun to play and strong. Though, i like the Look of the WuWa Characters, tbh. They look pretty badass. As a former Genshin Player (screw Cai Haoyu) i didn't really cared that much for the Character's Look and more on their Gameplay. Same as i do now with Honkai Star Rail, since i started playing it for almost a Month now.

the thing with PGR designs is that they ARE bland, very little use of colors and simple silhouettes. You can't really tell much from just looking at them...and the you see their gameplay. THEIR FUCKING GAMEPLAY. I'm glad you used actual character animations, because while the designs may lack flare, their movements, their actions, their expressions, they way they dodge to the way they walk, their idles, their skills and core passives, ALL of it tells so much about a character than their designs. Hoyo characters still kinda such at both but to each their own lol
the character designs literally match the aesthetics of the game. Even when you look at star rail, the characters do have some colour but not as much as genshin. why? because of the whole aesthetic. star rail is mostly space, modern themed while genshin goes deep with the cultural aspect. Also genshin is more bright as in compare to other mihoyo games. The pgr character designs are more cyberpunk themed. and ww is about the whole apocalypse thing so I think very detailed designs and bright coloured attire wouldn't match the whole game's vibe. Besides that, mihoyo fans (mostly genshin fans) are just salty about other rp games being released which aren't from hoyoverse
i think they fail to realize that its a matter of art style approach that is diffrent to each other. i personally liked kuro approach that is neat with less weird hair design. kuro approach is more monochromatic and neat styling with normal human body proportion compared to mihoyo moe, colorful approach. its admirable for game dev to create their own design approach and stick to it instead of blatantly copying others artstyle to the bone. also designing all character with too much stuff attached in clothing or hair can make each characters harder to stand out. busy character design should be saved for boss or key character in lore so that they stand out than the rest while remain memorable from each other.
the honkai ones are better tho not even color wise texture but PGR did a great job it makes sense for the world they established and we know how some genshin players are
Hoyo fans and some paid by Hoyo people are doing everything to destroy reputation of Kuro just so that Hoyo won't have to work even for longer time. Just see Genshin and in 4 years of it being out a lot of issues (that are easily fixed) are not changed. And after WW came out Hoyo suddenly began to work on their game. Maybe just a coincidence.

Each game has their unique outlook that matches a theme. Some games if had been design as other games and have bad choices leads to a less recognizable charm and eventually may lose all likes in other aspects.
One good tell for great character design is wherther you can identify a character by their silhouette alone. With how diverse and often times unique the bodys of pgr characters is , kuro 100% passes this metric. Everyone is extremely recognisable, even between different frames of the same chsracter.

Personal opinion: the reason that GI design falls short is cause of the contrasting themes. Sure the art style fits when you were fighting dvalin, but for the rest of the "serious" scenes, (aka: navia losing it at neuvillete, a dude going insane trying to turn his son human again, and a literally old god trying to turn liyue into a puddle) the art style being slightly cartoonish gets rid of some of the atmosphere making it hard to get emotionally invested in the scenes. (Only reason im not critisizing it more is cause i could get invested into navias scene and furinas final trial is becuase the VA's did a great job.)
That's the best way to explain the issue. Almost every design I can think of from hoyo is super saturated and uses the same base model, so characters not only end up looking same-y but contrast horribly the moment they try to do anything serious. It takes you completely out the moment constantly if every character you're following looks like a cosplayer in a costume.
Why does xiao look like a child compared to The other character forgot his name (this is also coming from a former genshin player and a current Honkai and wuwa player)
To be honest Wuthering Waves attracted me because their characters design and less color in the textures, I didnt like the cartoonish style in genshin.

It's sad someone actually compare it to HI3 designs, cuz while they are cool and increasingly god like but the color exposures on screen hurt my eyes and I'm only watching my sister play it. If anything, Kuro designs are already good in their own genre. These comparisson conflicts somehow remind me of Minus One vs The New Empire debates. Same things but different genres that aren't even meant to be compared. Like you can serve beef as a steak and a burger, it's not a direct competition in their neutral states
@@p4ntom87each character has a distinctive style and their outfit represent their character, power, element, personality, and role in the story to a degree. they aren't your typical run of the mill bland anime design that looks identical to other anime characters out there (like how a lot of isekai mcs look the same). wuwa's characterss' outfit feel like a mismatch of supposedly cool parts that aren't woven together cohesively. a lot of design choices don't even make sense. sure the female rover looks pretty but is that revealing out really necessary? we're in a post-apocalyptic world filled with monsters and advanced technologies. the male rover's outfit is what a fighter should be wearing, not something that exposes so much skin and leaves you with no armor to protect your vital organs. and thats only our mc. dont even get me started on the other characters.
Oh god….yhe deeihns in Wuwa are less ornate and colourful because it’s a dark, mature game. Genshin is bright, cheerful and mostly pure and innocent. We do get some darker moments like Signora’s death but for the most part it’s paimon and traveller wise cracking jokes and making a Pokemon-esque journey across all the nations and learning the power of friendship. Wuwa’s story doesn’t really make sense to me, but its combat is still great

I honestly am not a fan of sci-fi aesthetic, especially with mecha parts on the outfits thus making me prefer Genshin's outfits more. But Wuwa is a very good compromise for me, it took me three days just to choose which Rover I wanted to play bc I really liked their styles equally. Also, when it comes to black and/or white palette, Rover, Baizhi and Geshu Lin are my favorites

My people see asking others for help as a sin and my father is the kind to treat it as something degrading and cause unnecessary drama for the rest of my time, extremely religious too so there's no convincing and talking sense into him. I think Mihoyo Fans should change their word "Designs" with "Colors". Both games have unique in their designs, the only differences between them are their colors and genre. Kurogames genre are Sci-Fi+Fantasy = Darker Fusion Color while Mihoyo Games genre are either Purely Fantasy or Modern Sci-Fi = Colorful. If you want to compare designs??? That would be Body Proportion, Clothes, Skills/Talents and the Story/Lore of the Characters itself. Eg. Wuthering Waves Character Designs are more on Mature side compared to Genshin Impact which is kinda Childish. This just felt like MARVEL vs DC Comic lol!!! I do like Wuthering Waves Character Designs cause especially for Loli & Shota, their sizes is just right!!!
There is the term they don'tknow "esthetic." Each games have their own esthetic. FORTNITE is a colorful cartoonist FPS BR. on the other hand, we have COD in the same genre but more realistic (if we can say it like that). For the ARPG mobile, HI3 is rainbow like, and PGR is more gothic oriented. In therm of color we should compair GI to Prescillia. They follow the same esthetic.
Regardless of the designs, we can't deny Hoyo's massive difference to Kuro when it comes to the sales, but I have no doubt Kuro can make it up there, but toppling Hoyo's throne, I am having doubts if they can even topple them.
Sadly that's the truth, in my opinion even if Kuro's upcoming game Wuthering Waves releases it won't topple Genshin or HSR big time. But with it and other upcoming Open world games coming soon. It would probably make their playersbase and money to lose cunch of it. But l do hope Wuwa would make their own player base in the near future and probably get in the Top 10 or 15 in gacha monthly revenue.
