It's focused on anthropomorphic animal characters, think Zootopia or The Bad Guys. Furries will create original characters, make art and costumes, and sometimes gather at conventions, which can have thousands of attendees. I'm not sure exactly why they're cracking up so much, maybe because furries are seen as nerdy and weird. I believe the story is about chlorine gas that was released intentionally at a convention. I don't believe they ever found who did it.
