I see some that some people who have a superiority complex are always generalizing and patronizing Americans saying we don't know much about our people and the records they break. If there's one thing we do well, its publicity. So think again. Have you understood that it's always somewhere else in another country, always in another continent that most of our records are made or broken.

@@Bebe-ch8zk You mistake my meaning. What I’m saying is (a) _I’m_ American, and (b) I don’t think I’d heard of Shiffrin before she broke Stenmark’s record. (If someone had asked me who the preeminent American ski racer was, until recently I seriously would have said Lindsay Vonn-that’s how uninformed I am.) And, despite Eric Heiden’s incredible performance in the ‘80 winter Games, I might never have heard of him but for Sports Illustrated. This was at a time when Dutch grandfathers took their young grandsons to see Heiden compete, knowing there would never be anyone else like him. Surely many Europeans feel the same way about Mikaela Shiffrin now, in a way that relatively few of us Yanks do.

@@khkartc I didn't think you were American or European. I just commented but I could see you are observing and reflecting what you see and think. So I also want to be observing and reflective as well. Maybe it's because 95% of the year she spends in Europe and before last year and this year, they're were only 1-2 races for Americans to see and visit Mikaela Shiffrin in her own country. Considering how well she does by winning a lot, if she were spending all her time skiing in this country, we'd be hyping her up all the way to the sky. I mean we aren't really a skiing nation and we're lucky to have had skiing legends. To be honest, skiing even if it's abroad isn't marketed by the skiing authorities. That's left up to the individual broadcasters and rights holders. I don't think they do nearly enough or an effective job in my country. I can't speak to how Europe is because all the skiing is mainly done there and I don't live in those countries where the ski races are most of the time. Frankly, she doesn't have as much exposure here in the US than she does in Europe. I feel sad that it's like this but I hope before all is said and done, she'll be as recognized and or known about as same as Lindsay Vonn.
