mikayla saying she wont review small businesses anymore bc they cant keep up with the orders it brings in is insufferable. that is life changing for a business, and you wont do it bc they go out of stock? how does that effect her she still gets paid. i promise thats not the reason she doesnt do indie brand reviews. its bc they dont (and cant) pay her as much as the multimillion dollar companies she advertises
It's very obvious yeah. She is claiming that a brand selling out is such an inconvenience for her personally, when that is the dream for a small business. Big yikes.
Yeah, she could just warn the businesses and ask that they increase their inventory by a certain percentage before she posts and then tell her fans something like 'keep in mind they're a small business of just __ people so there may not be enough for everyone right now but it's a really great product so if you aren't lucky enough to be one of the first to grab one, it's so worth waiting for a restock. But please don't harass them, they're working as fast as they can' But god forbid she get $1,000 instead of $10,000
While I agree he should not have taken a loan/ordered so much on the word of a known dishonest woman like Mikayla, she is still in the wrong for stringing him along and promising she'd review it. Like yes it wasnt a great business desicion in hindsight, but she still gave him a lot of faith when she clearly wasnt planning to. I dont like the victim blaming I'm seeing in the comments, one poor desicion on his part doesnt mean Mikayla is absolved of guilt.
It sucks that people are so easily bought, but I do agree that he may have jumped the gun a little too early. Her saying that she kept the tan on for 12 hours is a little weird since it’s a rapid tan. Spray tans can be orange so I can see that being her tan in that photo. The photo has color grading? That was a bad touch up on the photo. She definitely self tans more often than she claims. Girl, many people self tan so don’t act like you don’t.
I was indifferent towards Mikayla but this really push me over the fence, especially her trying to shift the blame and gaslighting the guy. Massive yikes!
Honestly the guy comes off kinda entitled… I hope they both learn from it and he starts making official contacts with people before going 10K in depth 😅
this is probably a hot take but when you try to do business with someone whos known to be unethical and they do something unethical why would you be a victim? when will companies stop paying her?
@@laura121684 does not matter she ain't going nowhere she still has 15 million followers it is sad but she ain't going nowhere. The more videos people make about her the more popular she becomes
I was just watching a TikTok about this and came straight to you to see if you commented and lo and behold you did 5 mins ago tehe! :D Obviously she should made a promise she couldn't keep, however, he should not have taken out a loan of such a large amount before she posted anything. Don't count your chickens before they hatch! I still love the idea of his small business though, I'd like to try it, so no doubt this publicity will help him out regardless of whether she posts or not.
Yea like someone said they're both kinda in the wrong. My mom likes to tan, and I don't, but something like that which is customized I'd be curious to see what it looks like.
She has priors that have suggested she isn’t always truthful/completely transparent, anything she says about this situation, can’t be trusted. I hope plenty of orders come his way. Sounds like a great item.
Why did he get the loan before seeing the video? Even if she did it 'on time' sounds like the video wouldn't have been super positive by his own admission. I assume maybe he is doing this to try and get PR (which seems to be working) to fix his error.
imo they’re both in the wrong. i am unfamiliar with these two influencers but she should not have made promises she couldn’t keep and he should not have made business decisions based on a promise not in writing. she shouldn’t have been negative about it in her comments that’s just a bit rude she could’ve ignored it. in my opinion he should not have insinuated that her actions cause him harm mentally when he was the one to make the business choice based on a random video she made a while ago. again i am unfamiliar with the two but it seems like neither is in the right.
I think ppl don’t realize Matthew has been shady and downright aggressive to ppl. He’s not a good person AT ALL. The trish thing was just for publicity and he’s attacked and blocked ppl brining up concerns with shipping being 70 + DOLLARS for one bottle of tanner in Canada and Australia back in august. Everything he does has an ulterior motive and all his content gives me a weird vibe tbh…
I honestly cant stand Mikayla, but with this one im a bit unsure. I think i would have a mental breakdown if someone took out a loan for 10k relying on me to do something 😅 she didnt ask for that to be put on her. She was totally wrong for stringing him along but there is a chance she had every intention of making the video and something kept getting in the way. As someone who lets people down often because i find it hard to do the simpleist of tasks when my mental health is not great, i can totally understand. Everything else she does tells me shes a bad person so more fool anyone that tries to associate with her!
This is all very petty but a im bit more with mikayla on this one, she absolutely shouldn’t have strung him along but he should never had taken a massive loan out on the back of a vague promise from a known shady figure and then made guilt trippy TikToks about it
Ngl I feel like hes just trying to pass on accountability and responsibility for his decision. Mikayla and him are both in the wrong. She could've stopped all this by not making those false promises, fake tanning regardless of what time of year it was (she could always wash it off a couple days later) and making it clear to brands of her rules: ie paid work will always be a priority over favours. He should've: not chosen to work with an influencer who is unreliable, go through her agent/manager with his request rather than her directly, hire a solicitor/lawyer to create a template for influencers with time-scale, requirements etc - I think he didn't, becuse he knew her management would turn down unpaid work over paid and he couldn't afford it/didn't want to pay. I used to wear fake tan many years ago and there was already quizzes on the tan sites about what tan would look best with your hair, skin etc so I don't think it's a unique concept with the larger brand using it for their own marketing. (Maybe it's new in the USA?) Either way mikayla has mentioned the tan now and the drama has spread awareness of the brand, his product should sell well if it's as good as he says.
She is always lying though. Like the amount of times it's been called out gets covered up and in 1 day everyone is back to liking her. It's a huge issue.
People are saying "don't trust a verbal agreement" but like, he showed text messages showing proof of the agreement??? She was actively saying she will do it in those messages as well. The handshake part of the agreement probably wasn't in the messages but there was some form of agreement in those messages.
mikayla’s a liar that should’ve stayed true to her word but he knew that. thats something people have known for forever. if you take out a 10k loan in anticipation that one of the biggest names in the game will review it for free with nothing in writing to legally bind her to doing it, you are not a smart business person. you’ve got to be completely delusional or extremely desperate to think that mikayla will stay true to her word when number one, she’s a known liar and two, you’ve offered no money and have no contract. mikayla should not have lied but this is his fault, not mikayla’s.
Why couldn't she just say "sorry I only really do paid sponsorships, I love your product but it's just how I need to conduct my business as I do this for a living". It's conceited and shows how disingenuous her reviews are, but at least she wouldn't be in this mess. Like seriously what did she gain from lying to him and stringing him along? He's not entitled to a review from her, but if she's not going to do it she doesn't need to string him along. She just keeps doing messy and frankly stupid decisions that keep coming back to bite her.
my thing is we all know how mikayla is. if he’s a long time fan as he claims he should KNOW how she is, esp with her controversies over the last year. i would never take out a 10k loan and put myself that much in debt just based on her word. no contract no nothing. we all know she’s a shit person and yes she should stay true to her word but with no pay for the video i’m not surprised she never made it. after leading me on for weeks/months the LAST thing i would do is take out a loan on her word
I don’t get the beauty community 😂 yeah it’s lame that she didn’t review it but she owes him literally nothing. I feel like everyone has a hate boner for her for no reason 😂
Riiight like she totally should’ve stuck to her word or at LEAST not waited MONTHS for something she promised to do the next day…. but why didn’t he wait literally one more day until he saw the review up to make the order? Especially if he was constantly refreshing his feed and waiting to see the review like he said he was? Just place the stock order immediately after you see the review go live. To me, the fact he got a 10k loan has no place in the conversation about her treating him badly, which don’t get me wrong, she did.
@@chompchompkissabsolutely! Like you don’t have to have a business degree to know not to take a 10k loan out on an influencer’s word, especially when that influencer has been known to lie in the past. I do feel bad for him in general but he really can’t put the loan aspect on Mikayla, whether she lied or not
I was gonna say normally I don’t agree with mikayla, but this dude was basing his business off of a verbal promise which is bad business practice. Unless you have something in writing with signatures and witnesses this is his own fault.
It's not working for free though. You're receiving free product, that sometimes costs hundreds of dollars. And you'll be paid, even if it's not a paid sponsorship, because (on RU-vid at least) there's ad revenue. And I think influencers get paid per-view on TikTok too, after they have a certain number of followers, which Mikayla does. In no way would she actually not be making any money by posting a review of his products. It just wasn't _enough_ money for her.
My biggest problem with her is she’s a big two faced liar. Just be honest ffs. She lied to him, she lied to us, “I don’t fake tan often.” Girl you’re getting one every 2 weeks! And it literally would not affect her at all to do that post she promised she would, she’s just bitter and petty he didn’t pay her to do it, all she cares about is herself and money and it’s so shallow. Edit: The filter was a damn lie too! “I looked orange from the filter.” No you didn’t otherwise Cody would’ve been bright orange too. 😭😭😂
@@brookelynnwu8016They are the same troll that keep posting comments about how Colleen Ballinger is really the victim in her situation. Just a bot or a disgusting person, but either way, definitely not worth your time.

It's the way she jumped at the chance to clear up the spray tanning allegations but never spoke a word about the lashgate situation for me 😭 Also, all that time to go back and forth with him but she couldn't just, put the damn product on and let it set while doing other stuff???
The thing about being a lying liar who lies is that it doesn't matter if you're telling the truth if no one believes you. His products are reasonably priced on his website, it looks like a nice product.
regardless of the fact he made a business decision based on something that wasn’t in writing, she should not have promised him that she would review his product if she knew she was too busy or had too many products to review in the meantime. also claiming she doesn’t fake tan a lot when her hands always look orange to me is so insane, but we knew she’s an avid liar. the thing that annoys me about Mikayla is that she can NEVER take accountability or responsibility for her actions and instead resorts to blocking people
I have never watched any of her videos, except ones reacting to her, because to me, she's the human version of nails on a chalkboard. You can also tell from the way she acts and talks, that she really believes she's something special, like she thinks everyone worships her. She knew damn well she was never going to review it, so stringing him along, no let's be truthful, by lying to him, it really shows her true colors. I very rarely wear makeup and the only tanning I do is getting some sun while I'm working, but I am tempted to buy his product because he deserves all the business he can get.
I’m assuming that she just is not prioritizing this review because she is not getting paid for it and is just prioritizing her paid (whether she discloses it or not) reviews 😒
The wording of Mikayla made him lose money is not one I agree with but she’s the worst and this was already known, not shocking at all that her word means nothing and that she doesn’t actually care about using her platform to promote products from small businesses.
Yes, he come off as very entitled. He is a victim of big brand stealing, but everything after that is his own making and very stupid decisions honestly. I can't stand Mikayla, but small businesses have a habit of making bad or unprofitable decisions and blaming everyone else around them and putting the pressure on consumers - which ofc consumers don't want to deal with
Yeah, I agree. As far as she knew, she was doing a free promo as a favour. That is VERY different to thinking that someone is betting 10k on you. He needed to tell her straight away that he intended on taking out a loan based on her review and get a contract in place. What he set up with her and what he ended up doing were VERY different. Mikayla, like many others, cannot be relied upon to keep her word, and that's why we have contracts. You can't say "You made me lose 10k!" if you never told someone you spent 10k in anticipation of something they might do for you.
I feel like this is a situation where she technically wasn’t wrong, but is still the asshole. She shouldn’t have strung him along when she didn’t plan to make good on her self imposed deadlines. He shouldn’t have based a huge financial decision solely on her word. I hope this brings enough attention to him and his brand that he can move that product. I tan often and I plan to try it. Also I think the big brand was Bondi . They introduced a new line with 4 undertones last year and offer a little quiz to find your shade .
Sure, but hind sight is 2020. She is completely wrong. He only ordered simply because of wanting to be prepared based on what she has said has happened to other small brands - essentially going out of business. He didn't want that to happen. Naturally.
I don't like her, I never did. She's 100% an asshole and a liar, BUT. He did that to himself. I hope this attention he's getting right now helps him sell, and hopefully, he'll be able to return the loan and earn money on top. Above all, I hope he learned a VERY important lesson for his business and personal life. People are assholes. Don't rely on anyone. Unfortunately, that's the reality we live in.
This is definitely one of those situations where "technically" neither person did anything wrong and was well within their rights to do, but the lack of integrity on Mikayla's side for her communication reflects really badly. Like, who wants to deal with someone when they have to have a legal contract in order to trust their actions and words? It is business, but even within business, falling back on the presence or lack of a contract to defend yourself is a crappy move and makes people not want to work with you.
He didn't even comp her a bottle of tanner, she bought it herself and he's pressuring her non-stop for a free review when her job is featuring and reviewing products. I'm not into it, even if Mikayla sucks, this guy is out of line and bad at business
Regardless of if she intended to make the review or not, her continuously using crappy spray tan that makes her orange as a pumpkin over a smaller brand that will actually work is so insane to me😭😭
I think its two things, one the guy was being strung along by someone who OFFERED to do something for him. When someone offers to do something I take it more seriously. Plus it'd be super easy for Mikayla to say that she would get the video out in a few months after the first and second time! Why say tomorrow?! Why keep saying tomorrow?! Secondly, he was foolhardy to jump the gun but I think that having a business and making mistakes are part of the process.
I hate that I am defending Mikaela. But that guy has been harassing her for months on tik tok for a review. She even paid for the product. He is an entitled little brat. I wish she would have just ignored him.
I also find it weird that she says she doesn't like a heavy tan, and then proceeds to say she "slept in it". Lies on top of lies. Clearly she tries to find a way to make it seem like it is not a spraytan, but the lie goes against her preferences. Just doesn't make sense. At this point, I don't understand how anyone can trust her
I’m sorry but for once in her life mikayla isn’t responsible for this. Yes she was an ass. HOWEVER. She’s not responsible for someone being obnoxiously stupid by putting so much faith in MILAYLA that he would go out, get a 10k loan, and buy stock he hadn’t even potentially sold yet. Based on the word of someones who is known to be dishonest and has misled him not one. Not twice. But three times. He did this to himself. Nobody is responsible for your own bad financial decisions.
She literally told him that she doesn’t do it because he didn’t have the money or stock. She put that on him. Was it smart on his part? No. Did she basically tell him to get more stock because she wants more for her fans which also put him in a bad spot? Absolutely.
@@xxoxEVAxoxxno she didn’t do that at all, she told him she would do the review, she just didn’t do it on time. He used an old statement he made to purchase stock but who knows whether her review would have warranted those sales anyway.
@@xxoxEVAxoxxI feel like you misunderstood that video that you are referring to. That video where she explained why she doesn’t make videos on indie brands anymore was made a few years ago and had nothing to do with him. It was a general video statement. The tanning brand owner just remembered that she made that video and used that to make his business decisions.
Nobody is saying that she's responsible for taking out a 10k loan, but she is absolutely responsible for being the catalyst for that decision to be made. If she was actually honest from the beginning, the order never would have been made in the first place. Did you put your brain in backwards this morning? 🤔
To be really, really honest, I am no fan of Mikayla but I feel like this man rolled the dice and didn't win. That is a little bit on him - we know Mikayla is flaky and him reaching out and posting about her was opportunistic in the first place. I think the product sounds wonderful, but next time get a proper brand deal in place, in writing, and get insurance that covers this sort of thing. If the product is great, it will all work out.
This is exactly what he wanted. The more he talks about her, the more sales he gets & people are falling for it. lol I don’t feel bad for a business who decides to use Mikayla to represent them 😫🤣
idc what people say avbout Matthew being smarter and not taking the loan ahead of time; regardless, she's a liar and annoying af. "I will get to it" months after saying tomorrow every day? Sounds lazy and fake. It is NOT that hard to make a minute video reviewing a tan.
im sorry as much as i support small businesses and dislike mikalya, this is entirely his fault. 1. every decision, sponsorship, pr deal has to be done through writing. if nothing was signed on a legal document from both sides then the other person is not obliged to go through with the deal if its not in contract 2. he knows mikayla is problematic, why beg her to sponsor them in the first place?
I get that Mikayla is who she is and I'm not a fan... but this dude needs to take accountability for his own actions... get it in writing or it didn't happen.
He is tho. He takes accountability and even apologised for making a statement she denied true. He said the 10k was on me this is why I got the loan but she didn’t tell me to.
@morgianasartre6709 wording issue on my part, I meant legally binding writing. Text messages won't help much in getting someone to do something lolol especially someone with a track record like her imo
@@eatxurxveggies But the thing is, a contract would not have been appropriate here. He isn’t paying her, this is not an exchange. Why would she sign a contract? She offered a favor to make a bad situation (that she took part in) right, but then she bailed. She’s majorly lacking in integrity (but we already knew that). That’s really all there is to this.
@Natnat994 her lack of integrity is entirely my point. Don't expect things out of people that have shown behaviors of being deceptive. You're going to get disappointed. Cover your ass, don't expect others to do it until they have a proven track record of trust with you personally.
Both are wrong here, she has a business, if he wanted a review he should have made a contract and then buy stock, yes she led him on but still, he should not make decisions like that just by word of mouth
Mikayla is one of the worst influencers I've ever seen, but this actually wasn't all her fault. Sure, she shouldn't have made a promise to review something when she clearly never intended to ACTUALLY review it. That being said, the other guy should not have taken out a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR LOAN based on something that wasn't legally binding, especially when we all know how shitty Mikayla is. It sucks for him, but I suppose that's the price of learning not to trust people without a contract.
This exactly! Like why did he reach out to mikayla KNOWING all the drama around her and the risks it'll be to his business. There are many other big influencers out there who would probably happily review his products heck there are some who's niche is literally to review indie/small brands
@@DominosAndHeartsfrom what it sounds like, SHE offered to fix it and SHE offered to do the review. If SHE didn’t interact with him at all and waste his time, he wouldn’t have taken out that loan. Even STILL after he’d taken out the loan, if she had been honest after that point, he could have just gone to a different influencer and had them do a review instead, BUT because she kept stringing him along, he had to sit there and wait just to be 100% sure he had the stock. I don’t blame him, and he owns up to it. And like it’s said in this video: if she would have posted it and he didn’t have the stock she’d be like “oh this is why I only do adverts for people who pay me mon-I mean big brands, he had plenty of warning” 😒
Honestly at this point I'm convinced she sold her soul to the devil, all that success despite her looks, voice AND personality? There has to be something supernatural about it.
Yeah im unfollowing her and letting ALL of the people I know to do so as well as send them this video. I can't believe she's this horrible of a person. We stuck with her through so much and this is undeniable.
I’m wondering why he didn’t wait for her to do the actual review before placing the order. Because as it stood she said she’d do the review tomorrow & he then acted on getting the loan & placing the order. So the timeline would be exactly the same if he actually waited for the review. Do you see what I mean? Oh well, either way the situation sucks.
Probably the same way your local home-improvement store has the ability to mix pretty much any color of paint. They buy the base products and mix it when it's ordered.
Good evening Angelica and Phoebe I saw this covered on another channel yesterday and went on a bit of a rant based on the context of what I saw in that video. Seeing your reaction to this issue provides me with another insight into this indie brand. I see the frustration of Matthew, but he put his eggs into the wrong basket. Influencers like Makayla are shady, and it’s not surprising when they review products for a paycheck. Below is my other post that outlines my thoughts about this pettiness of both sides: The way this guy is talking about this whole situation makes me not want to buy from him. It’s not an influencer’s job to promote your product if there’s not a contract. I get that he took her word, but he jumped the gun with the loan, and should have done a contract with her before he started making business. I do know if you sleep on business, you may not be in business too long. No obligation to promote product. Also, Mikayla had a history of being shady before the Tanning thing, so going into ‘business’ with her if you can’t produce a check up front. She’s a notorious liar, so why are you surprised she lied. I don’t trust her (or many big influencer’s) opinions about products, because of the brand deals and payed sponsorships. And even if the ad disclosure is not present immediately you should still know that it’s an advertiser. That’s what social media has become. An advertisement machine. So that beloved product that the influencer wants to share probably comes with a paycheck. Being lied to sucks. It hurts when you get your hopes up, and they get disappointed like that. But taking to social media in this way isn’t making you look good. You kind of look petty, and that can be off putting, especially when you’re the representative of your company. Matthew airing this out like he did was childish, and kind of a bad business move, because it acted more as a smear campaign against someone who frustrated him rather than him, answering a question of why his product was never talked about on that influencer’s channel. I find the whole thing ridiculous. Both sides had made bad decisions, Michaela saying that she review product and didn’t, as well as Matthew putting too much faith in a shady influencer. who has a shady past. In the end I’m not in a hurry to check out the products both parties are selling, even if they are the best thing ever.
At the end of the day, this was supposed to be an unpaid favor. Anyone who has ever worked an office job where new tasks/projects comes up understands the idea of prioritizing. If you sell services to clients for example, you will but more of your effort and attention to the account paying you $100,000 than the one paying you $25,000. And wouldn’t put any attention or effort in anything that’s not making you money. It’s totally understandable how this unpaid favor kept being put on the back burner because there was no money guaranteed for that work. Time is money and in Mikayla’s case, her time and work is very valuable. It’s normal for people to forget the stuff that isn’t going to make them any money in regards to their job.
I think we’d all understand if it ended up taking a while for Mikayla to post about the bronzer. It is just a favor after all. But then just say, “I’m very busy, I’ll give you a heads up when I have time.” Or just say “Sorry, I’m just too busy right now.” Or she could have even offered to just make a written post. That’s all. She said “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Part of being a good person is keeping your word. And she simply didn’t, again and again and again. So yeah I totally understand how this situation happened but she still comes out looking bad in my opinion.
@@Natnat994 she is just one of those people who is polite so they can avoid an awkward situation. I feel like she just wanted to avoid conflict, that’s why she kept saying she would do it. Not a good thing that she did, but I wouldn’t say it makes her a bad person.
@@brand0nbu1 Respectfully, I’d like to push back on the concept of lying to avoid conflict being acceptable. I am conflicted avoidant as well but I truly believe that lying and flaking instead of just telling the truth and being honest that you can’t do something probably shouldn’t be normalized. You get people’s hopes up falsely, waste people’s time, and it can make people feel like they don’t matter to you. Is this normal behavior? Yes. But it’s not neutral to me because it can have unintended negative consequences. Not to mention, this is a very high stakes situation involving a personal business, not a negligible little favor. Also, I don’t think she’s a bad person, but I do believe this situation exposes a lack of integrity that makes her look bad.
@@Natnat994 it wasn’t the right thing for her to do but it was what she did and the brand owner really should have seen what she was doing after the long wait he went through, it was very evident that it was not a priority to Mikayla. Getting peoples hope up is not great, but the brand owner did allow for his hopes to go up when that is never the kind of mindset you should have going into running a business. Running a business is very matter of fact and shouldn’t be ran on anything that’s not in writing
@@brand0nbu1 I agree, you definitely can’t rely on a handshake agreement but he’s also within his right to call Mikayla out for stringing him along. Hopefully, he drops the drama and moves on soon because this whole situation ended up working out for him anyway and I’m happy about that.
The poor guy learned a good lesson…never ever count your chickens before they hatch. I wouldn’t have taken out that loan unless I had a written contract with her to post the review and even then, I’m not taking out a loan based on ONE possible influencer review.
Yes as a business you should wait until it’s written in writing, but this is learning steps for him. I think it’s wrong if we are blaming a smaller brand based off a large influencers promise. Mikayla lies and deceives any chance she gets and I hope people start seeing her for what she is. A fraud.
Honestly if a brand was hounding me about posting about them, then I wouldn’t want to either. He was being so aggressive! Also, he’s speculating so much.
Was she wrong for not keeping her word? Yes. But was he dumb for going into thousands of dollars of debt for a demand he didn't even have yet? Also yes. I think he's pushing against her bc he was hopeful and he's a let down fan. Everyone knows she's a liar atp but he didn't heed that. The long and short of this is that he made a poor business decision. He mentioned other influencers that flipped on him but he didn't out them. The smart business decision he made was outing a large influencer for clout to sell that 10k of product 😂 idk, I don't think either person is completely right in this situation.
He says he is/was a long time fan... But it didn't crossed his mind that she doesn't move a finger if there's not a check involved??? The math IS NOT MATHING🤨
On one hand i agree to not make business decisions based off promises from people you dont know or who have no obligation to you to be honest but on the other hand, would it have killed her to just be honest????? Why did she have to lie about it and why did she have to give him false hope about it if she clearly never intended to review it?? Yeah she has no responsibility to him whatever but shes only ruining her own reputation atp
don't keep saying you're gonna do something at a specific time when you know you're not. one "I'm gonna do it tomorrow" and then "I'm so sorry, things happened and I didn't get the chance" is okay imo, but don't then keep promising for "tomorrow" or any specific timeline.
I mean i dont support her. But also as a business owner, if she is obviously saying one thing and doing another for months... I wouldn't trust her enough to make a big financial purchase the day after she tells me something. Shes been not doing what she said for months so why make a big purchase before she actually posts the video or have it in writing ? Shes wrong but he didnt make the best business decision honestly.
