Maestro Mike Mozart. After falling head-over-heels for a girl he bumped into at the swimming pool, a mix-up presents Mike with the opportunity to actually talk to her. Unfortunately, the classical music CD he notices leaves him thinking she's far too cultured and out of his league - which is when Angelo hatches an ingenious plan to learn about such subjects from their primary source. This episode was originally broadcast on Thursday, 12th January, 1995.
Stand by for a heap of great musical puns in this one, plus a catastrophically terrible aardvark joke. Michael Benz deserves a lot of credit for his dual-role performance as both hormonal Mike and young Wolfgang (though why Mozart would have a dead posh English accent is probably something we shouldn't think about too long), and in many ways there are dual storylines on show that would have been strong enough to work separately. The main body is made up by the time-travelling character's adventures in the 20th century, but then there's the whole girlfriend issue, which itself is underpinned by the conflict between being yourself versus trying to be something you're not. It's a good message cleverly played out. Regulars on this channel may notice that the device of the mixed-up bags was recycled into the very last episode of Polterguests four years later (from the same writer, of course):

One minor technical point: the freeze-frame they end on (around 18:48) isn't actually a freeze-frame at all. How odd. Anyway, this is Katie Pearson's first appearance on the show as Sam, but she would go on to be a recurring character throughout series seven. Does anyone know what became of her? I'd love to know what she was in before this, and indeed what Katie did next.
