Newcastle United have announced manager Rafael Benitez will leave the club when his contract expires on 30 June.
Mike Ashley's representatives at the club said the following in an official statement: "We have worked hard to extend Rafa's contract over a significant period of time,"
James Allcott sits down with Newcastle based journalist Kristan Heneage to get his instant reaction on the Premier League clubs decision.

Well done James for keeping this channel alive! Hopefully a return of some of the older elements will return at some point too. When clubs get fat cheques simply for finishing in the bottom half of the table,it removes any incentive to be ambitious, particularly for parasites like TFCB. TBH, the Prem is becoming a mirror of society as a whole. It's ruled by greed, wealth, balance sheets and the bottom line.

I get a feeling Rafa will be reinstated if a take over happens just after his contract ends. If a takeover is close then what’s the point of offering a new contract when the new owners can do that instead. Personally I think Ashley has already spent his last penny on the club by signing Almiron, breaking the transfer record and adding more value before he sells.

Its almost as if Ashley is hellbent on depleting the club. When we have a good manager he gets rid. There is no stability, financial or otherwise at the club. Unfair to the fans and players. Bottom line....he wants a yes man as a manager who won't pressure him for money for new signings.

Gutted for the passionate Geordies but they have themselves to blame. Why, because they knew a few years ago that this mess would only continue. as I remember the toon players were not in love with Rafa or his tactics nor his team selection and had brawls on the training ground and dressing room. Infact the boring football dished out by him was also getting to the fans last season and it seems its the same old fans that made Rafa a God are the loudest to cry foul when the rest of us really want entertaining football win lose or draw and could not give a toss who selects the team. Rafa will be but a distant memory in six weeks time if we are off to a decent start, Remember he lost the first 5 *HOME* games and he should have been sacked then, most managers would have got their P-45 and cards .

Yes but players are not always as bright as they think they are. Who would you rather play for if you wanted to be successful and build your reputation as a player , Rafa or Gary Monk? Players don't have to agree with the coach but they do have an obligation to carry out instructions, play for the team and EARN their pay.

Is Ashley actually that bad of an owner? He has Newcastle in mid to lower part of the table which has historically been Newcastle's level and at least Newcastle is in no danger of being bankrupt, fans of teams like Bolton would probably bite your hand off for an owner like Ashley. Before all the crying Geordies have a go at me I am not saying he is a good owner just that there are a lot worse owners out there e.g. Bolton, Blackpool etc.

@@MLSNYC88 The truth that is ignored a lot of the time is that Newcastle were in a lot of debt when Mike Ashley took over due to spending beyond their means in order to compete at the top of the table and qualify for Europe. Newcastle have been relegated before Ashley and will probably be relegated again after he leaves.

@@taliamason7986 Newcastle were in the second tier in the early nineties so it had only been about fifteen years since they had been at championship level when Mike Ashley took over, as I mentioned Newcastle spent above their means to compete near the top of the league before Ashley. Also the two managers that were in charge when Newcastle were relegated were Alan Shearer and Rafa.

@@woollyalpaca55 The size of the club is not relevant to the point I was making about the owners of Blackpool and Bolton, I was stating that these owners along with others have been far worse for their clubs than Ashley has for Newcastle, which is true. I would argue Everton are a bigger club than Newcastle, they have won more trophies in their history and last won the FA cup in the 90s and the league in the 80s. It has been many decades since Newcastle last won a major trophy, even Bolton, in your words nowhere near the size of Newcastle, won the league cup about 15 years ago. Newcastle spent huge money for the era in the mid 90s to help them challenge for the title which was why they were in a lot of debt when Ashley took over. Newcastle historically are a solid mid to lower half top tier club who are occasionally are relegated and spent a bit of time in the second tier. Newcastle are a lot smaller than the current top six.
