The NBA loved the Lakers, Celtics, and Bulls, but the dynasty in between those three were unpopular and had to be curbed. The irony, I think, is that successor to the Pistons style of play was the Riley Knicks and then Riley Heat, and the bruisers on those teams were a lot more muscly and hard hitting. I mean, would you rather fight Bill Laimbeer or Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, Alonzo Mourning, or PJ Brown? LMAO JJ claimed the game is as physical as it's ever been, but then contradicted himself by saying it's harder to play defense nowadays. Today's game is nothing like it was even 10 years ago because of how many rules have changed. Usage rates are so much higher now because offensive superstars are given much more FT attempts and open lanes because less physicality is allowed and thus they're not as gassed and bruised in order to give bench players more minutes.

Honestly I saw why artest went nuts. Some stranger throws a full beer on him w/ all his nasty back wash germs plus it's so gross. However it was classless for artest to be lying on the scorers table like that. His coach needed to get him off. He was just laying there like he was at home on hos couch. So artrrst was brought low class( do u see magic bird mj or Ewing ever do that? )if Ron didn't go off & run in the stands that guy should have been arrested cause that's assault. Artiest obviously escalated that by flying into the stands & attacking some other dude for throwing it thinking it was him. The ref the coach a teammate someone should have made artest get off that table. So as much as that drunken fan doing that was disoicable u can't obviously as a player go attack a fan. Everyone involved acted horribly. I'm glad in many stasiums they stop serving booze in the 2nd half cause opposing fans esp when wasted become belligerent. No player deserves to be abused by a mob of fans.

Remember when Kevin McHale did a clothesline takedown of Kurt Rambis in the Finals? There was no flagrant fouls then, and McHale stayed in the game and played the rest of the series. These days, that's a Flagrant 2, automatic ejection, and likely suspension to follow. Alonzo Mourning once left a walnut-sized welt on Scottie Pippen's forehead. Common foul, no flagrant. These days, it's a flagrant 2, automatic ejection, minimum fine. I totally agree with Breen on the hard fouls. You just can't play bully ball anymore. Anything hard today gets overly scrutinized. Players today are athletic freaks and I don't question their toughness, but back then you could use physical intimidation and punishment as deterrents in ways you simply can't now.

JJ Redick just got his myth debunked that the 80s & 90s were just as physical as now

Nba is soft don’t act dumb, your just showing respect to your former co workers. Compare any sport nba players cry, and it’s still the only major league sport I watch.
