My jaw has been stuck to the floor for the last 10 minutes. I can't close my mouth!! I don't think I have EVER seen anyone with such a TOTAL control of their musical instrument - and believe me, having lived in Granada, Spain for many years, I have seen no shortage of astonishing guitarists. This guy is quite simply beyond belief - not just his technical mastery, but his lyrical interpretation of what was a nice rock piece, into a work of art! Almost lost for words...

At 70 years of age I have seen live and listened on record to many of the greats on both electric and acoustic guitar. I only came across Mike a few short months ago and it was a jaw dropping moment, absolutely astonishing technique and musicality. A truly amazing talent!

I’m 54 and grew up with vanhalen being my favorite band period! I have Van Halen license plate on my car and EVH shoes as well. He's listened to me play rock and metal for years, so as a way to show him that guitar can be so much more, I showed him your slow dancing composition. His mouth dropped lol and he asked me where your style came from. The best I could respond with was that you had taken parts from your favourite musicians and carved your own little niche in the world of music. That it takes lots of practice and finding what you enjoy. Whether it inspired him or not , I don't know lol. Frank Zappa loved and respected Eddie and got him to teach Dweezil who was obsessed with ED When Frank died Ed was THE 1st first to call with condolences and to offer any assistance. He did the same for Chris Cornell Guitarist Pete Thorn when Chris Passed He got Allan Holdsworth signed to Warner to introduce Allan to a wider audience He was the 1st to mod his guitars in such an extreme way chasing tone, popularising the Super Strat - Humbuckers in Strat style guitars, Waxing Pickups, Variac on his amp and did his first 2 albums with the original Fender Whammy which led to the creation of the Floyd Rose Whammy Bar and later he developed the D-Tuna addition to go from standard to drop D Les Paul Said Ed, him & Leo Fender are the only guys who know how to make guitars His 5150 Amp is still THE go to amp and sound of Modern metal, Gojira use the EVH 5150 His Rhythm Playing was funky, tasteful and rockin’ and his songwriting is the reason his loss is affecting grandparents, parents, kids and all ethnicities alike as Van Halen songs will live forever. Henry Rollins saw them as an Opening Band and they Blew away Black Sabbath, Ozzy said someone doesn’t get That good without crazy dedication to your craft. Still my favorite tribute for some many reasons, to name a few 1.) Dawes is unquestionably one of the best players alive right now. 2.) Example of EVH's inspiration on players of different genres making the song more timeless. Genres come and go, but great songs inspire and manage to reincarnate in unexpected ways that's what's happening here. 3.) EVH was a very positive individual, always smiling on stage, Jump's rhythm and melody epitomized this positive energy and Dawes captures that so perfectly here and the spirit of Eddie is coming through.

I've played alot of guitar in my life. I've watched alot of people play guitar as well. This is one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen.

As a someone deeply affected by EVH's music, I found myself with familiar feelings here. No, not a copy - but an actual original arrangement that hits every single note. Beautiful in its simplicity and absolutley stunning in the incorporation of so many techniques, harmonies. Thank you for doing this. Somehow I feel the original is smiling down. I have watched this video maybe 30 or so times. I saw it the day you published it and was speechless, hell, I cried at the keyboard solo. My first concert was Van Halen in August of 1981 in Atlanta and I did not miss a show all the way through the 80’s. Ed’s music is engrained in my psyche and your playing took me back to many years ago when me and my buddies slept under our cars waiting in line for Van Halen tickets. Thank you!
