Mike and Ginger check out a lyric video for Tides of Time by Epica. ~~~Get exclusive content on Patreon at / mikeandginger Twitter / playitagainmg Check out the original video at • Epica - Tides Of Time ...
little backstory to this song, .. Mark Jansen says ... it is dedicated to my grandmother who passed away while we were recording this album (Design Your Universe, 2009). It will always have a special meaning to me.” And not only to him. “Mark’s grandmother was a very important figure for the whole band”, Simone Simons says. “Her house was our rehearsal space from the beginning of Epica. She always greeted us with a smile and made sure we had everything we needed.” Simons dedicated “Tides of Time” to her, making it a very emotional album for Epica.
Another fun fact about Mark Jansen's grand-mother - although always rehearsing in her cellar, the band never though she actually was listening to what they were playing - they were proved wrong, when they came up one time and she asked - what did you change in that song you were playing? something is different! According to Mark, she was their greatest fan and very supportive.
I hope you can also take a look at one of Epica’s old ballads - Solitary Ground. They have remastered the music video for this amazing song!!! Cheers!!!
Love Epica and love Simone. Her voice is so beautiful. My top three is Floor Jansen, Amira Willighagen, Simone Simons. But all three super talented women get me in tears with their beautiful voices, so many times!!! 😢😅❤
Can't blame Ginger about that woman crush on Simone. She seems to a cracking lovely person with great sense of humor. She her husband Oliver (Kamelot keyboardist) made a great cover of This is Halloween in her RU-vid channel. Check out that one too please!
Love this song. Want to recommend you check out Epicas new acoustic version of of Abyss of time, Abyss o times. A whole another song with a Christmas feeling with Celtic wibes. And they seems to enjoy themselves so much in that video. Love it❤️
I got to see them live in Montreal before the pandemic hit hard. This song was actually the one that resonated the most with me....A week later my gram passed away and this song's lyrics really helped my aunt through it.
Epica are such an amazing band, and may I say one of the best live bands....you may want to react to “Introspect / Monopoly on truth “ - from Retrospect....a banging way to start a gig. Best regards from the U.K. 🇬🇧
Another gentle song from Epica is Our Destiny. It's about how Mark (guitarist) and Simone still make music together even though they weren't meant to be together (they used to be couple).
@@dac2007 You are correct. My version is mixed up for some reason but I looked at official order and it's as you say. I have been listening in wrong order for all these years.
Hi Mike, Ginger, Epica have another beautiful ballad similar ish to this one, one of my all time favourite Epica songs: Once Upon a Nightmare - Epica (Live with Lyrics)
Yes i found out just too late, i'm sorry for that. Perhaps is this a better suggestion, Delain and Marco from Nightwish live at the Festival of Rock 2017 doing "The Gathering" Just jump around! Thanks for reacting,Mike 👍
It amazes me still that how outsiders you US people are from the music world :D All of these bands are huge names in Europe and they outrun any American bands all the way with the music. There is actually only one US band that I really like: Kamelot. They have a Swedish singer and a German keyboardist who actually is the husband of Simone Simons.
We’re not American. We’re Canadian. We also feature a lot of Canadian acts that are huge here, that most of Europe has never heard of. We just don’t feel the need to be rude about it. - G
Thanks guys, what a beautiful performance (never heard this one before), Simone has such an angelic voice, this style of singing reminds me of another beautiful Dutch Angel (Floor) singing "Sleeping Sun"...
Hi Mike & Ginger, they are EPIC! Simone,Floor, Anneke and there is an other great female Dutch vocalist, her name is Charlotte Wessels. I think you already know her band, Delain. Check them out if you don't know them. Do it for me,please?😉
Since I'm a big fan of symphonic metal in various forms, Epica is one of my favourite bands, although I'd prefer just Simone singing without Mark growling. P.S. Epica just released this great acoustic version of one of the songs on their upcoming album: EPICA - Abyss O'Time (OFFICIAL ACOUSTIC VIDEO) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tpy-KdtLsZY.html and unlike the album version (1st single / music video) there's no Mark with his harsh/growling vocals.
I know what you mean, for me Epica's catalogue of music is so varied that they are like 4 different bands, only one of those bands has a lot of the harsh vocals, I tend not to listen to those tracks all that often, I actually like some of Marks vocals in small doses like in Edge of the Blade or Storm the Sorrow, I don't mind those at all, it's only when it is a main vocal that it kind of puts me off, I am a huge fan though, they have made so much great music that I can pick and choose the winners, like the last album 'The Holographic Principle' every song on that album is a winner.
Hello. Wishing you a Merry Christmas. Here are suggestions for a great Christmas song and artist. Maria Mena with Home for Christmas. In Norway, this is one of the most popular Christmas songs, is one of the songs that are most listened to at Christmas here in Norway. Keep up the good work.
Ok so I'm now watching Simone on instagram, she is hilarious :) Ginger have you seen her photography channel on instagram? (Simone Simons Photography) she has a real talent for it
@@MikeandGinger Gingeeeer thank you! I couldn't even believe you finally reacted to this :D And you even picked the right video. It's a great fan-made video with on-screen lyrics and Simone sounds and looks beautiful in it. Wait... she looks beautiful everywhere, she's stunning :) I didn't know you follow her on IG, heheh, that's cute. I love her so much! And Mark Jansen definitely is a brilliant composer. Epica is incredible!
@@MikeandGinger I'd like to recommend you a couple more... Once Upon a Nightmare - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNs_pMdZGrw.html This wonderful ballad contains quotes from the poem Erlkönig by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe among its lyrics. It's a true masterpiece. Universal Death Squad - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P_Ys_W7ySkM.html A little bit heavier song. The lyrics is a bit "Terminator theme". I like the staccato parts and the "machine gun" kick drum :) There is also an acoustic version called Universal Love Squad. Sensorium - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jxWHrHC2Qe4.html From their debut album The Phantom Agony. Probably the first song I fell in love with :) It's worth watching a lyrics version too. Resign to Surrender (including the prelude Samadhi) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ed0IumD5UT8.html Veniality - bonus track from The Phantom Agony. There are two versions: - metal version - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ndK4iOWbqyA.html - orchestral version - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YVkln_wVkyI.html I'd like to recommend more, but I think this is enough for now :-)
@@cancelled_user I love this song, I suggested this song with this specific video a while ago now, they must be working their way through a pretty long list :)
Watch Simone singing with KAMELOT "_*"The Haunting"*_ (live): ru-vid.com?search_query=kamelot+simone Or Simone (as the ruthless but deceptively cute Angel of Death) in .... the newest from AYREON - Transitus (Arjen Lucassen 2020) - *_"This Human Equation"_* :ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lKwaBJmSUps.html BTW: a must see and hear: A TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from AYREON, a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen (Ahr-Yun) Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_The Day That The World Breaks Down_* is a song that features all 11 (quite well known) main guest singers (you’ll be surprised) and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by which standards. Btw. The clip is 13 min. long and I think you won’t regret it !! @@MikeandGinger Hi Ginger, I have pretty much followed you from the beginning and I haven't seen reactions to any of those videos posted to your channel yet? maybe they were taken down before anyone got to see them?
@@watchtheskies I’m sure we did The Haunting, but ai can’t find it, and no notice from RU-vid that it was taken down. We usually record in batches. I wonder if the recording got lost in the mix and the raw video is sitting on our hard drive somewhere. I’m going to check
