Fantastic and Energetic live band, I've seen them 7 times over the years, mostly in the 90's, they have quite a large and loyal following. Still Going too, just released a new album. They are from Brighton, on the south coast of England.
Yes they are named after the English civil war mutineers.also we have a band called new model army named after Cromwells new model army try 51st state of America by them😀❤
You guys have been so generous with my requests thank you!... the levellers kind of captured the counter culture feel of 90s Britain... they were classified as more Folk-punk more than folk rock. They were the voice of the new age traveller scene and their songs often carry an anti establishment message. Thanks for playing this... you guys are awesome x
Oh The Levellers are great! Strong element of punk in that folk-rock. This one's a bit of an outlier with it's dancy vibe. If you want to check out some more, try What A Beautiful Day, Hope Street and One Way (quite the anthem to get the crowd singing at rallies/festivals). Oh and 15 Years - Man does this one hit close to home. There's an auntie I'd never play this to 'cos her late husband basically WAS the drunken arsehole the song's about. The only difference is she never packed her bags and walked away, more's the pity...
Levellers! Maybe something from New Model Army will pop up here one day. For me, my favorite album of theirs is 91's Levelling the Land but Beautiful Day (feat. Imelda May) is just the best.
Just come across you guys subscribe cos of the levellers review.guys give the levellers another chance as people have said this is not indicative of there normal sound try one way at Glastonbury 94
Or they have a more stripped back acoustic sound try there version of Abbas sos at Bristol academy it's on you tube and in my humble totally biased opinion is better than abbas😀😀😀❤❤❤
The levellers! They do have more traditional rock folk songs. One way, Hope Street, 15 years, what a beautiful day. This song isn't really representative of how they sound.
One of my all time favourite bands. 15 years, Men-an-tol, One Way and incredible songs. Another Man's Cause is a fabulous anti war song and Battle of the Beanfield is about police brutality agains New Age travellers. This song although good, isn't one of their best imho, reminds me of other bands of the time whereas their other songs are a bit more unique
Very much involved in the new age, political scene. Battle of the beanfield and just the one are two more of theirs others a lot of people on here have already named the hits.
Another nice throwback. :) Levellers hardly crossed the Channel at the time though. They didn't really appeal that much to me, but this did give me a very pleasant flashback to my Stone Roses period. Must have played their debut album (on CD) hundreds of times both while studying and while ... not really studying. Very happy tunes and times.
