"The Time Between" is a brilliant film from the BP archives, offering an extraordinary glimpse into the lives of four of the greatest racers of their generation away from the track.
The fly-on-the-wall documentary follows Graham Hill, Bruce McLaren, Innes Ireland and Mike Hailwood for 13 days from the end of the 1964 French Grand Prix at Rouen to the start of the British GP at Brands Hatch.
Rare black-and-white footage shows these four greats away from the track, attending business meetings, pursuing their own interests and even filling the downtime between races with some more racing!
McLaren works on his cars, Ireland tours the highlands in an off-road vehicle, Hill travels back to France for a hair-raising GT race while Mike ‘The Bike’ goes back to his first love and competes at the Belgian motorcycle Grand Prix - and wins! The incredible on-board footage of Hailwood riding the MV Agusta is simply stunning!

After all his triumphs on the track, to lose his life as he did was simply heart breaking. RIP Mike.

This man won races in multiple categories on the very same day. Considering the number of different manufacturers he won races for and also how dangerous the races were during his time, I would rate Mike Hailwood as the GOAT! ❤️

The sound of his voice is so calm, so assured. He knows what he is talking about. That there is death all around him and he just keeps his head down and takes the bike to the absolute limit, lap after lap. Mike Hailwood , Absolute legend. Rest In Peace.

Iv'e worshipped Mike Hailwood ever since I knew what a motorcycle was. I still do. I'm 68.

Mike Hailwood was always a hero for me. My old man said to me in 1964 “This Mike Hailwood seems to be doing well, doesn’t he”. I saw Mike at Brands in 1968 at the Race of the South on the 297cc Honda 6, anyone who’s ever seen that ridden in anger will know what a talent Mike was. I’ve never seen this film before, so I’m going to download it.

La belle époque aussi bien pour la simplicité que pour le naturel et la nature. A quand un retour dans le passé ? Qu'elle joie on avait de vivre.

One of only 3 riders in the entire history of world championship motorcycle racing to win at least one world title in 4 different classes, 500cc, 350cc, 250cc and Formula TT, the other riders to have achieved this feat is Valentino Rossi and Phil Read Now that is a seriously exclusive list of legends

I got to see Mike up close at the Daytona FIM races in 1965 or thereabouts. We had paddock passes and were hanging out near the pit entrance after the 500cc race. The MV Agusta had nearly lapped the entire field as I recall and the bike was smoking, literally from the oil dripping off it.

Great footage ftom a great circuit. Pity Spa isnt used anymore for wirkd championships.......the trees and armco rule it out now. I think this is where Vales father Graziano had his crash.

I once watched a video of Joey Dunlop on board, and they showed the size of the camera strapped to the tank. I dread to think of the size of the camera they used for this. Especially the one on the rear. I bet that made the handling "interesting"
