Mike has unlocked a level of independence and phrasing combined with physical endurance and touch I’m not sure we’ve seen before. I can only draw comparisons with tony williams or dennis chambers, and that is very good company to be in. But I dont even know if I’ve seen anyone sustain the kind of speed and power mike does for long periods of time while continuing to use intentional phrasing, which is what makes any of his chops actually meaningful.
In rehearsal Mike told the bassist, “Ok when you see my 25th dreadlock from the front start throwing up the peace sign, that’s when you come back in. Cool? Cool.”
Yeah I think I've seen the video, it was on Instagram live, couldn't watch the live stream cause I wasn't with headphones and the sound was all shshshshshj
Not a fan of Istanbul cymbals but they really achieved and nailed that electronic clap sound with that clap stack they were going for. That clap stack sounds sick
Nowhere near, I'm afraid. 1,000,000 notes in a 7 minute video would be 2381 notes per second. I would guess he's going around 10 notes a second on average so that's somewhere in the region of 4000 notes.
@@HugoStiglitz88 this is a harsh reality for many of us to sit with. but so true... lol! I feel like people aren't ready to accept that Mike's chops have clearly surpassed all those who have paved the way for him.
