I have not heard this video until today and I agree, it is playing at the top of his game. I have seen other live clips of this group line-up playing and it certainly seems that they gelled well together and the music just flows.
Indeed. I've been watching this at half speed for about three days trying to work out what he's doing. Maintaining alternate picking at that speed for so long without one single mistake is awe inspiring. Then of course there's the great final solo...
@@kvothe6627 Flattered that you ask. :-) I'm pretty useless at tabbing. What I can say is that it's probably easier to learn this one just by watching and listening. Mostly arpeggios over three chords with just a few ornaments and trills thrown in. The only really hard thing is cross picking at that speed! :-D
That is some serious skill with the rythm guitar. Sounds and looks easy enough, but try it. Oldfield has, and is still, composing the soundtrack of my life.
Dude, I'm crying. I can't make sense of that about what a genius he is. All the motifs and songs are heavenly. Ive been listening to him since I was 5.
You are absolutely right. Or just some nerd sitting in his bunker, disliking cause its not HD 4k whatever. Ridicouless. There should be no dislike button for music ;)
This man is the most under appreciated British Artist of the last 50 years....He even did the Olympic Opening Ceremony playing a "Latin Christmas Carol" in July!!!!! He will never be truly appreciated by the wider public until he is gone, lucky we know better and can appreciate him while he is still with us.
he is HARDLY UNDERAPPRECIATED. He Created the theme to ''The Exorcist'' and scared the shit out of generations for years, He Is Genius and proof of it is that he's still around for you to pronounce as ''under appreciated'' 21st century johnny come lately
@@RIXRADvidz yes, I think most older Europeans know him. In the States, pretty much unknown. Tried for years to see him in concert. Oh well, won't get that one off my bucket list I fea.
Mike is a genius! The first CD I bought when I was a child was "Crises" (1983) in 1990...I love every album, every song he wrote! But Mike isn't on a "Best guitarists" list??!!! That's a crime!
@@paulmarty6163 I'm having a go at it. The notes themselves seem fairly simple - starts with Eb major... the bastard thing is the speed of the alternate picking and the little ornaments between the arpeggios. Otherwise it's just doing the manic Oldfield style over 3 or 4 chords :-)
Only s/he who notices how a simple riff turns subtly into a miraculous solo can truly appreciate what a genius Mike Oldfield is. Both as composer and instrumentalist.
For me it is always fascinating to see how Mike plays so concentrated. North Star is a brilliant masterpiece, with all the different live versions he could fill a CD. TOP!
@@gjd9527 I have a S.E.L. rating, but most of my time is in 15 meter class (50 ft span) Sailplanes over the Sierra (Minden, Nevada & Truckee Ca.). Yes..Oxygen onboard. Google: Glasflugel H-301. (The 201 is the standard class version without flaps for high speed cross country flight). 40:1 glide ratiio in the modified H-301.
@@pilot3016 ...It Would Be Nice Up There, Up High With Only Yourself. I've done abit of glider flying with Airforce Training Corps (ATC). Flew a Piper Tomahawk.....that's all. Cheers Pilot 301. "Happy and Safe Flights" My Friend
La verdad que los que hemos tenido la suerte de verlo en un concierto. En directo fuimos afortunados. Yo lo pude ver en Donostia. Y es espectacular ver lo creativo que es con cualquier instrumento.
