In this talk, we will cover the basics of using SaltStack to configure servers and workstations through Salt’s powerful remote execution and configuration management engine. We will provide overviews of many of the core concepts and then provide demonstrations of each concept so that each attendee can immediately begin to use Salt to solve everyday problems in their IT environments.
Mike Place is the Sr. Platform Developer on the core engineering team at SaltStack. He works primarily on SaltStack core internals, with a focus on performance and optimization. He has twenty years of experience in UNIX and Linux systems engineering across a wide variety of environments.

Thanks for this, it's by far the best introduction to Saltstack I've come across. The explanation is succinct and answers many of the questions I had prior to watching.

I honestly did not pay attention to the "uhhh" until I read the comments. This is a great presenter.

My fault for reading the comments as well. Now I can't stop noticing it.

Still relevant as ever, and its 2019. Haven't touched Salt before now. Having "semi mastered" Kubernetes for work, Im looking at something similar for my own projects (which are just as ambitious), but Id rather not use Kubernetes for that. Looking for leaner and more flexible alternatives ... preferably something that doesnt choke on FreeBSD too. Salt keeps coming up in recommendations everywhere you look. Great intro - might be timely to do a followup, because I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat :) Thanks

Check out oh-my-zsh and equivalents. They have git status prompts enabled by default.

You need to slow down. This is an "Introduction to Salt". Rather than trying to explain a lot of things in a short time, explain a small number of topics in a long time.

This dude could seriously use a few sessions with Toastmasters. Makes him sound a bit derp with all those "uh"'s. Good info, just tough to listen to with all those filler uh's.

so he says "uh", it's kind of annoying, but so what. engineers aren't great public speakers. get over it.

Not a very nice attitude, to discredit the value his marketing colleagues and complain about their graphs at every opportunity.

+nictuku "Marketing colleagues" are a waste of skin.

The guys at Saltstack are quite a tight nit team from what I gather, I don't for one minute think it was said with any serious intent.

I agree 100% since he has still the slide he "throw away" from the marketing team ;)
