You have done a wonderful job, my friend! I only wanted to record Repentance, being the "mellow" part of the suite (as Mike called it in the Systematic Chaos DVD documentary), and hoped it would have a tolerable sound, but it turned out not too good. This upgraded version is fantastic. Thank you in the name of all who have been there and those who haven't.

Or maybe, just maybe, 3 guys all wanted the chance to play JP's parts in a band with Mike Portnoy, and he was cool with the idea? Especially given the added bonus of being able to cover the extra guitar tracks, instead of putting that on the keyboardist's shoulders.

finally the mirror sounds like the album version, labrie could never quite hit those notes live
@universo-inverso-42
@universo-inverso-42 6 лет назад
GilPaulbert, actually LaBrie hit those notes several times. In 1994 and 1997 he sang The Mirror flawlessly (just search any show from these two years), but he also hit the high notes on Live Scenes from New York and on several other presentations. Moreover, it's undeniable that LaBrie's voice used to have more power than Ross on the high register - and I'm not criticizing Haken's singer, I'm just pointing out a fact.
@universo-inverso-42

GilPaulbert, see "The Mirror" from this presentation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JOZo9Ikhqys.html. But if you don't want to spend some time listening to it, just read the top comment of the video.

Yuri Fernando hey, thanks for the link, yeah labrie sounded just stellar in those years, gonna watch the whole thing ! You're right about the power in high registers, i mean don't get me wrong, i love labrie and on the albums he obviously still delivers, but on the recent anniversary tour the whole band tuned half step down just for him, but at the same time, nothing is forever, just a bit sad about his high voice fading

Long time DT fan... the band really misses MP’s presence, character, and soul. Mangini has the technique, but certain musicians have that “it” and that “it” left DT when MP left. Couple of things this video does show me though: 1) DT could really use a second rhythm guitarist for hire on their live shows. 2) DT should think about replacing the aging LaBrie with a proper metal vocalist. Good video.

@mucaslatos
@mucaslatos 5 лет назад
disagree with the second topic. the cool thing about DT is not having a "metal" vocalist. Labrie's voice adds an unique touch to their sound. Ross Jennings has exactly the same kind of voice and fitted like a glove on these songs. can't think of better replacement to Labrie than Ross. but as we all know, Labrie won't leave DT so soon, and thank god, because I love his voice even with the aging.
