Mike has changed for the better since leaving DT. He is humble and genuinely wants to help others sound their best when working on their projects. Mike is so musical and you have to be born with that gift.....
I love all the stuff that Mike has done with Neal. I discovered both of them through the first Flying Colors record, and since then I've been super into a lot of their collaborations. Here's to many more records together!!
I wonder if I'll EVER hear a bad song by Neal. I just keep buying his discs and keep winding up delighted by every note. What a genius! (And that he acknowledges the source of his inspiration - that's great!) Not only are his studio albums excellent, but I finally broke down and bought a live album (not something I do often, as I'm not exactly rich; I really need to LOVE the artist) and was amazed at how tight and powerful they are! So much energy; and so well controlled and skillful! At this point, I wouldn't miss a Neal or Transatlantic album for anything!
I was also a DT fan and heard about Spocks Beard and Neal thru Mike. Mike is a true keeper of the Prog/Rock flame and has always promoted great bands. Neal and Mike are both some of my favorite musicians!
I will always repeat that. Mike Portnoy was the SOUL of Dream Theater (he produced most of the songs and, alone, the best album of the band - Change of Seasons). He has the prog-rock soul that DT has lost to arrongace. Congratulations Mike, you are in one of today`s best Prog Bands. Forget the fame and keep being the genius you are!!!
well I was searching for prog bands, i heard spock's beard- the light and i got impressed to... then i knew that mike and neal play together and i heard transatlantic and neal's solo albums... i got amazed!
I am glad Mike is now with Neal. I was never a DT fan. Just too much bass for me. Mike and Neal are a great team and I hope they have many more years to create more projects. Leaving DT was the best decision Mike has ever made. The only thing I liked about DT was Mike and Jordan Rudess, and John Petrucci solo projects. I saw Spock's Beard when they opened up for DT. When DT did come on stage we left because after SB we didn't want to see DT play. Why? SB is so much better!
he's absolutely right...there are 3 songwriters in my estimation that are/were incapable of writing a dumpy song...john lennon, ben folds and neal morse
