Mike Read on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, Smashie & Nicey and where modern radio is going wrong 

Mike Read hosted the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1 between 1981 and 1986. He's also worked for Radio Luxembourg and Capital Gold, among others. Here he talks about his time hosting the biggest show on radio, the impact of Smashey & Nicey and how he thinks the radio industry should change. Hosted by James Hanson. Mike Read started his radio career presenting alongside Steve Wright on independent local radio in Reading, before moving on to the famous Radio Luxembourg. He then joined BBC Radio 1, becoming the station's Breakfast DJ in 1981 - a position he held for more than five years. At the same time he became a regular fixture on British television with shows like 'Saturday Superstore' and 'Pop Quiz'. Since leaving Radio 1 in 1991, he's worked for stations including Capital Gold, Classic FM and BBC Radio Berkshire.
