The part where he said 'Thank you, thank you for being my friend.' for some reason are the most inspiring words I've ever heard. Thank you Terry Wogan, God bless you.
I actually couldn't listen to his last show, although I listened to this extract a while back and cried. When the announcement of his passing was on the radio, my wife and I cried, as I know so may others did too. If ever there were poignant words, 'Thankyou for being my friend' (singular) Yes, he spoke to us all individually...
I listened to this live it made me cry. Here we are in 2019 and the tears run all over again even more so since Terry's passing. He was a one off. RIP Terry
And now 2022. Morning radio is not, or will never again be the same. Just don’t make em like Sir Terry any more . Thank the Lord for RU-vid so can get a fix of Janet and John stories as and when!!!
My dad introduced me and i listened to him secretly as a teenager in the early 80s ( it wasn’t a cool Thing ) he always made me think of my dad and always made me happy ,, I remember his word play with songs which made me laugh ( lou seal was my favourite) thanks terry rip.
Not often that you see only love in the RU-vid comments, shows how much of an impression this guy made on us all. You'll always be my favourite Radio presenter Terry, and sorely missed!
Just listening to his voice again after such a long time made me think how good his calming golden Irish voice was, His wit, his charm, his vulnerability in this clip.... sadly missed and probably the best popular broadcaster of many a generation.... There will never be another Terry.....
In a notoriously shallow, fickle and false profession this gentleman was the EXACT opposite. Sir Terry was both a gentleman and a gentle man. A giant in the broadcasting business who will be very sadly missed. His gentle wit and charm were legendary and today just got a little bit emptier......
@@stc40 took an extraordinarily large fee for presenting children in need, whilst simultaneously pleading with people much poorer than himself to dig deep in to their pockets for the sake of the children 😒, also set up a taxi firm for all that BBC cash spent on ferrying these orrible people about
We all love our Terry. I miss him being around. The good thing is that I think the nation showed him how much we loved him while he was here which sometimes, for some, only happens when it is too late. That warm voice and smiling eyes.God bless you big man.
Terry was with me for much of my adulthood and it’s one of the best aspects of modern technology that he can be with me still, in the rich library on RU-vid recordings. RIP my Togmeister! Evelyn Tent x
My first memory when I came to the UK. Going up the hill from Dover ferries early in the morning, and seeing the road signs for Canterbury... My husband (a native northerner) saying, ooohh you have to listen to this, he's sooo funny... For years I've been waking up to Wogan, and it feels like a part of my family has passed. Have not been able to stop the tears since yesterday.... Thanks Sir Terry, for all the good times, and all the laughs in the morning... Stuck in the car being introduced to War of the Worlds.. Listening to Janet and John laughing my head off... Laughing at the silly introductions to the traffic.... Just Thanks for all the good times.. And condolences to his family...Sleep well Terry, and Just thanks xxx
God bless him!!!! I will miss Terry! I'm 39..... and he's always been there, radio... TV Children in need..... What a nice genuine guy! You will be missed by many Terry!!
I skipped the day off work to listen to this back in 09. Legit cried. Every morning since I can remember I’d listened to him going to school or before school in the house. So for 23years I’d heard him, I didn’t take it well when he left lol
Miss terry wogans morning show when on my way to work 🙁I have since searched many radio stations in the mornings and haven’t found anything that comes close to mr wogans show and the truth is I won’t as he was a one off😢 r.i.p terry you really did do high quality radio ✌🏻
RIP Sir Terry Wogan. Thank you for being ground-breaking in so many ways on Radio & TV. I especially enjoyed your chat shows. Your ability to to make guests at ease in an era of iconic celebrities was legendary. Oh - the legendary Janet & John stories!!! Tears well up as I write this. You were my all-time broadcasting hero. Irreplaceable.
In a world where we currently seem so far apart, he is a gentle reminder of how we can come together. "Kindness is the most important thing in life" said Terry.
Terry was very BEST radio presenter. No one comes close nowadays. They’re all loud, shouty, very grating and the music isn’t that great either. Terry eased you gently into your day with his easy manner and beautiful soft voice. Wish we could turn back the clock😔
this man has kept me company over the last 20 years whilst driving the highways of this country,he will be sadly missed. A true giant in broadcasting. See you Terry.
Terry made my drive to work a pleasure every morning, even better when there was a Janet and John tale, I had to pull over as I couldn't see for tears of laughter. And what did they replace him with, Chris Evans! I don't listen to radio 2 anymore.
I was never a radio listener but I watched countless Eurovision Song Contests, Terry's sarcastic irreverance when Moldova voted for Latvia and Macedonia, Norway for Sweden and Denmark! 2016 is rapidly becoming a sad year for the entertainment industry. Rest In Peace Mr Wogan
Undoubtedly the biggest gem the BBC ever had. Still missed to this very day. I remember the day he signed off air, I just stopped work and took in this parting statement he read out. RIP Sir Terry, and thank you for all the laughs. 💕
I think back to my childhood and listening to Terry in the kitchen in the morning before school, always had a calming effect on me somehow..god bless this great man.
When I was young, Wogan was a prime time TV host, a Saturday night fixture. With a new wave of edgy comedians coming along, he was someone your parents listened to. Only when I got older did I realise how funny, warm and generous a broadcaster he was. Pure class.
Listened live at the time and stopped everything to take it in. Started listening to Terry as a refugee from radio 1. I was shocked and surprised how risqué he was on radio and settled right into the filth of Janet and John and all the other double meaning on the show. Yes sir....what you said as advice to Chris Evans was true...."if they like ya they like ya!" And we did like you Terry.
Didn’t know of you when you were alive although my dad and mum loved all your shows. Wish I had met you. Sending love to heaven and ask you keep me and my children safe 💔 😢 godbless
I miss sir Terry's warm and friendly voice on the radio and his smiling face on television and its hard to believe he's no longer with us. Rest in peace Terry your a tough act to follow.
Not much else to be said after reading the other comments, only that after him and with Chris Evan taking over the R2 Breakfast show was more about Evans, than the listeners, there was only one way it could go, and that was downhill. I never listen to it now, but still listen to Ken Bruce
Grew up getting up for scool to Wogan on Radio 2. Never realised at that age what a true legend he was. Many a cold winter morning eating my porridge listening to his gentle humour only when I grew older appreciating the mans genius. R.I.P. Terry.
And then Chris "I love hearing my own voice" Evans totally ruined it. :( I remember hearing Wogan on Radio 1 as a kid, when my Mum would have the radio on the kitchen window sill, playing away. Jimmy Young was on during the morning as well. Then, as I grew older, I found Wogan again when he was on Radio 2 and would love to listen when I could. I particularly remember driving down to Cornwall for a holiday one Monday, and I was nearly there, when "Janet & John" came on. I actually had to pull over into a layby while me and my grown Son were in fits of laughter. And you could see other drivers in the queues laughing too. You knew what they were listening to. RIP Wogan. There's never been anyone like you since.
From the sedate, gentle tones of Terry Wogan to the total anarchy of Chris Evans - I bet Radio 2’s breakfast listeners didn’t know what hit them - probably thought that the kids had tuned over to Radio 1 or commercial radio - it must have been like following orchestral (but not necessarily classical) music with death metal!
Such a shock that he's gone. Just like David Bowie and Alan Rickman earlier this month, I no clue he was that ill. I will that voice for sure. They won't be another Terry. A real one off. RIP
TOGS, TWITS, roadcones, Wogans Winner, the Television Centre Virgins, The Other Listener, Janet and John, Who Shot JR, he provided his listeners with decades of entertainment and memorable in jokes. I've seen loads of Radio 1 presenters come and go at breakfast, but Wogan was a legend who is still around today.
Totally in shock here... I've listened to 'the good old beeb' since the late 70's and thoroughly loved his unique wit and his take on life. Listening to Madley as I write and his voice is quivering while reading the emails from the legions of TOG's in support of his family both at home and in the studio. As Richard said earlier Terry's production team (who do his stand-in show) had no clue of his illness.
Terry, Rest in Peace. All heartfelt sympathy to your family. You have made me smile on the darkest wettest mornings. As we both came from Ireland, you would say things I hadn't heard for years and would find myself laughing out loud alone in my car. There has never been a word of gossip about you. You have bridged being an Irishman and being at home in England to perfection. Life will go on but it will never be the same without you in the world. I wish you could know what fun, comfort and joy you have brought to me and how grateful I am to you for that.
