Mike Rowe Joins STEAM CIRCUS & Learns DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION | FULL EPISODE | Somebody's Gotta Do It 

So excited for the Steam Circus! I think Dan is right when he says kids don't know how to work with their hands. I also think they've lost the ability to use their imagination. I had four sons and you could sit them down with a bucket of Legos and they would build entire towns and vehicles. I have three nephews who are a decade younger than my sons and when they get a LEGO set they use the directions to build it, then they'll throw away the directions and then when the Lego set breaks, they never play with it again, because the idea of them being able to make something else with the Legos they already have doesn't compute and I find it completely tragic! I had two 50 gallon Rubbermaid tubs of Legos and Bionicle pieces my youngest wanted to give to my nephews and they said nah. 🤷‍♂️ It broke my heart. I felt like it was sacrilegious to throw them away so I ended up giving them to the boys and girls club.

I think I like this spin-off series even better than I liked Dirty Jobs. This one seems just a bit more fluidic; less boxed in, less restrictive especially when it comes to Mike's legendary antics.

Mike, from what I perceive to be your goal in life, this must be one of your most favorite productions. I am 70 + years old and 100% agree with you that one of the contributors to the demise of this country was the deletion of shop class from the high school curriculum

I worked in construction for 34 years until i hurt my lower back bad. I was always good at fixing problems. Even though i can't work anymore i still have a lot of knowledge and can teach if someone wants to learn

My 7 year old loves to learn how things work by taking them apart and putting them back together. He's been our battery replacer since he was 3. Got his first hammer then as well.

This is brilliant. From someone who HAD wood and electrical shop in public school Of course, our high point was cooking hotdogs by impaling them with wired nails, and plugging them in.

Absolutely amazing! As a teacher at 45 years old, we live in a new generation that has to keep up with the times & inspire the next generation with the technology that they know. They can excel beyond our expectations!! I loved this so much. ❤

I think a parallel can be drawn between the curiosity to take apart one's toys to see how they work and then having to put them back together so that they work vs. just buying a new one and the current education systems practice of indoctrinating kid in what to think vs. how to think. My taking things apart when I was young gave me the mindset to be an aircraft mechanic in the USAF and then go on to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I believe that the current education system is more interested in indoctrinating kids in what to think, creating mindless little robots that are easily controlled than those that think for themselves and think out of the box. The individuals at this STEAM circus are a group of individuals that bucked the system and dare to think out of the box. This country was built by people like this. This concept reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: “Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.” - Thomas Jefferson I remember driving home from work one afternoon and hearing an ad on the radio advertising an program in MBA. I had a particularly bad day at work and I remember yelling at the radio, frak you and your MBAs, get a degree in some kind of engineering and learn to actually create something!

This is an absolutely inspiring group of geniuses. Excellent concept to get our youth fired up about merging technology and fun. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

What an amazing group of people... as well as Mike and the crew. They've got great ideas and are doing a great job. I hope they're able to enlighten the views of our youth and even some adults.

As a retired teacher, I say the biggest issue in Education is TOO MUCH TESTING, TOO MUCH TEACHING TO THE TEST, NOT ENOUGH TRADES BEING AVAILABLE ALSO. CHARTER/PRIVATE/RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS GETTING FUNDING, STUDENTS, TEACHERS, FROM PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

Awesome! I am 70 years old and loving this. When my son was little he was brainy. I used to have to keep that brain busy, so I often took him to second-hand stores and let him load up on worn-down electronics and other interesting stuff. He took it all apart and had a blast. I was also the mom who didn't make him quit playing video games...I just knew...and today he is (I can't tell you who he is) a big shot in vid games! Thanks, Mike, for another great show!

My son will be 27 in june, anything that broke or wore out, we took apart. As he got to mid elementary school, I'd make him draw or list what he thought was inside. (Had a lot of flashlights with missing pieces, lol) currently he has my dads McCormick Cub completely (!!) apart & on shelves... He works as a crane operator & truck driver, loves to disassemble & repair heavy equipment down to small engines. But at 2, he ran the shop vac on my constructions sites better than all of the guys I'd fired over the last 45 years! Gotta teach them but also fan the flames of curiosity... Thanx ! (Scouts may have helped, lol, as an Eagle, lol!!

These Guys & Gals really have spark ! I hope they get the Interest & Funding they need to get this rolling. It would be Great for Schools to get the kids interested in, like school trips & such. There are a lot of kids that are truly bored with school or not good in certain subjects. But making things work, hands on type things they can do & excel in.

Its great to see things like this as it brings back the age of invention. I trained with an actual circus for awhile you don't understand how much science and knowledge is required and the cool thing is they normally think out of the box like clearly these people do :)

This new(er) series from Mike Rowe is possibly the best he has ever done. The guys and gals at the STEM or STEAM CO. seem to have a blast at what they do, and what they are trying to get across to the younger generation, and the older generation as well is this country has gotten used to a disposable economy which has become more dumb and less common sense than ones of many years ago. Way to go Mike Rowe showcasing talent from people with intelligence and drive!!!

Loved the wearable electronics! Immediately I can see GPS fir children and elderly for assistance in getting home and locating the lost. I'm semi retired from research and love seeing our youth using unique approaches. I hate the expression thinking outside the box, cats love boxed thinking 😂

22:07 that part of the show reminded me of stories my mother would tell me, like one time I was 3-4 and I come out of my room and open my hand and I have a hand full of screws, she asks, “where did you get those from?”And I said “my bed” and she says “well go put them all back in.” And sure enough I put every single one right back where it came from. She said she had came home to every striker plate taken off of every door in the house before.. lol you really couldn’t leave tools around me as a child or I would find something to take apart. lol

If you want to feature someone who’s at the height of engineering the craziest things… Look up Mike Patey. He’s the man behind the Red Bull airplane that landed on a helipad in Dubai….58 stories above ground.

We used to have electronic stores to buy the bits & pieces but they closed up long ago before the hobby shops. We need to push kids to be creative as they will be producing the things of the future... :(

Lol. That dining table sort of is a thing here in the netherlands. We have giant beer bikes which are basically the same. There is one designated driver and everyone else peddles the bike and drinks beer.

Nice to see some highly qualified young engineers. I work in the utility industry, and my company has been hiring with diversity as a key qualifier. That works as well as you might expect hiring people who have limited abilities. I've been taking more time off to keep from being questioned on how to do EVERYTHING by hires that should know basic information and have basic skills.
