Growing up in Wisconsin, our town had an ice carving contest every January during our winter festival. My friend and I did it several years running. We were only in middle school, but age didn’t matter. Fun, but cold, because we only had 4 prong picks to use.

For his first time doing it Mike did a damn good job at ice sculpting and if the TV thing stops working for him he always has a job at ice sculpting especially if he stays with it he could end up making a fortune doing it whether he does it full time or if he just does it as a hobby

I’m glad you did this one on ice carving because I am a copper fire painter and I’ve often had people ask me how long my art will last. I’ve only been doing it 10 years, and at first, I had to tell them, I don’t know- I seal it in polymer to preserve the natural magic so it will last, well- indefinitely. So I often wonder how ice sculptors feel about working in a very transient medium. I like what she said about being in the moment. That really describes how I feel when I see the colorful interaction of copper and fire. Thanks for sharing this!

Considering there's that ice hotel that was built every year for quite a while (think they stopped during the quarantine since they couldn't rent out the rooms). There's also those sand castle competitions, and the sand art murals. A good part of the joy is in the creation and the end results, no matter how long it may last.

Having spent about 20 years in the hotel convention industry, I've been able to watch some of the best ice carvings, done by the Head Chef at the hotel. From animals to corporate logo, it was done on the loading dock and it was timed out perfectly. Usually it was timed out perfectly 🤣😁🥴 In the hotel convention industry, time is #1 on the adjenda 👍
