Padres manager Mike Shildt discussed Fernando Tatís being placed on IL with a quad injury, how long he could be out, plus Yu Darvish's setback, a flurry of roster moves and updates on Joe Musgrove and Xander Bogaerts.
Femur injuries are scary. Consistently having our best players be thrown at is also scary. In the days when pitchers had to bat, NL guys tried hard to avoid hitting someone as it meant there was a non zero chance you would be hit back. Now it would feel wrong to throw at a position player for the pitcher thinking he can throw like that with no repercussions, but there's gotta be something to be done. Trade for Pham to be an enforcer and come off the bench to throw hands
Tatis proves once again he is made of glass. Hopefully this little bruise won't be too much "discomfort" for him. If it's too much, maybe he should sit out for the remainder of the year. Johnny Burrito being sent down is great -- he can give up the whole enchilada down there too. In many ways, this Shildt is perfect for the Padres. He clearly is in over his head, unintelligent, and still over the moon about winning 4 series in a row -- or whatever it was -- in May. Will be fun when they hang that banner on OD 2025.
